We demonstrate what we believe is the first nonmechanical tunable vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser operating in the C band. This was achieved as a result of the combination of an InGaAs quantum well structure with a 6lambda thickness tunable index nano-polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal material. Experimental results exhibited a potential tunable range close to 10 nm, in the preliminary version, and excellent single mode locking due to the side-mode suppression ratio (more than 20 dB) over the whole spectral range. Another decisive advantage, compared to mechanical solutions, was the tuning response time of a few tens of microseconds (>30 micros) to scan the full spectral range (10 nm), making this device appropriate for some access network functions, as well as being robust and low cost. The voltage values are the main limitation to wavelength range extension. We present a first version of the device optically pumped. The next version will be electrically pumped as required for the access network applications targeted here.  相似文献

Two barley genotypes were grown, in 2 seasons, at sites in both Scotland and Spain. The development of enzyme levels and endosperm modification were assayed, over the final 3 days of malting. Spanish grown samples demonstrated faster and more extensive synthesis of both α-amylase and β-glucanase, more rapid cell wall modification and a greater reduction in milling energy during malting than Scottish grown samples. Malt milling energy was strongly associated with cell wall breakdown, which was a limiting step in modification of Scottish, but not Spanish, grown samples. Extract levels were not related to α-amylase activity, but Kolbach index exhibited an association with extract at both sites.  相似文献

旨在探讨道路旁悬浮微粒之理化成分,并解析其可能的污染来源.悬浮微粒采样作业于2003年5月~2004年1月期间进行,悬浮微粒样本采集时间包括春、夏、秋、冬四季的假日与非假日,所采集的悬浮微粒样本经化学成分分析可得水溶性离子成分与金属元素成分,并透过化学质量平衡受体模式及逆轨迹模式进行污染源解析.测量结果显示,假日的大气悬浮微粒PM10浓度高于非假日,而假日与非假目的总悬浮颗粒则无明显变化.此外,道路旁悬浮微粒PM10主要受非交通源的长程传输与当地的交通源所影响,而总悬浮颗粒则主要源自于附近道路的车行及逸散扬尘.另就悬浮微粒化学成分而言,金属元素成分以Ca、Fe、Al最多,水溶性离子成分则主要为SO42-、NO3-、NH4+等二次污染物.受体模式及逆轨迹模式分析结果得知,污染来源主要为交通污染及道路扬尘,然而,亦有相当部分的污染来自上风处的非交通源.  相似文献

Although metal contamination is a problem of major concern in the lagoon of New Caledonia due to intense mining activities conducted on land, very little is known on the metal ecotoxicology of local marine organisms. The clam Gafrarium tumidum was investigated to assess its usefulness as a bioindicator species of metal contamination in this lagoon. More particularly, allometric relationships between metal accumulation and clam size were determined for five common metals in New Caledonian lagoon waters (Cd, Cr, Co, Zn and Ag) using a highly sensitive radiotracer technique. Experimental results showed that allometric relationships were dependent on the element and on the body compartment considered. As a rule, allometric relationships of metal concentration factor were more pronounced in shell than in soft parts. Significant relationships with clam size for Cd, Cr, Co and Zn followed inverse power functions. In contrast, the degree of Ag bioaccumulation was positively correlated with size. In view of the literature on Ag in bivalves, the latter observation suggests the occurrence of a specific detoxification mechanism (sequestration) that would be more efficient in old individuals. Overall, the experimental results indicate that the use of G. tumidum as a bioindicator in monitoring programmes requires selecting individuals of a specific size range in order to obtain comparable information about ambient metal levels. Since the size effect is greatest among smaller individuals, it is recommended to select clams with a shell width greater than 35 mm.  相似文献

This paper develops a software package to calculate the optimal contract capacities for industrial customers. Based on the time-of-use (TOU) rates employed by the Taiwan Power Company, the objective function is formulated, to minimize the electricity bill of industrial customers during the whole year period. Evolutionary programming (EP) was adopted to solve this problem. Users can get the optimal contract capacities for the peak load, semi-peak load, and off-peak load, respectively. Practical load consumption data were used to prove the validity of this program. Results show that the software developed in this paper can be used as a useful tool for industrial customers in selecting contract capacities to curtail the electricity bill.  相似文献

Field experiments were carried out to contribute to the assessment of the VICAS protocol aiming to measure settling velocities of particles. Samples of deposited sediments have been taken in the Django Reinhardt stormwater detention and settling tank in Chassieu, France, using sediment traps located on the tank bottom. The first set of experiments was designed to assess the VICAS protocol in terms of mass balance and repeatability. A bias in the measurement of settling velocities distributions of deposited sediments (i.e. particles with high settling velocities) was suspected and confirmed by specific tests. Uncertainties in the final distribution curves have been evaluated by using Monte Carlo simulations and the law of propagation of uncertainties. All uncertainty calculations were implemented in a MatLab code named UVICAS used for each experiment. This code allows analysing the main sources of uncertainties and their evolution during experiments. Uncertainties in the final distribution curves decrease with increasing values of settling velocities and are lower than 1%.  相似文献

Both single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs and MWNTs) are produced using a solar reactor working under nitrogen atmosphere. Samples were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). The produced MWNTs exhibit the typical morphologies observed for nitrogen-doped MWNTs synthesized with other methods and EELS measurements point out the presence of substituted nitrogen within the tubes. The doping level is not uniform and the maximum value reaches 11 at.%.  相似文献

A basaltic glass and a vitrified bottom ash were incubated at 25 degrees C in a growth medium (based on casaminoacids) inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Bacterial growth and mineral concentrations in different compartments (bacterial cells, growth medium and biofilm) were monitored in short-term (3 days), and long-term experiments involving repeated renewals of the culture medium during 174 days. In short-term experiments, while the concentration of iron increased in the presence of bacteria, a decrease in Ni and Zn was observed in the growth medium compared to the sterile condition. During long-term experiments, such differences gradually decreased and disappeared after 78 days. On the contrary, iron concentration remained higher in the biotic condition compared to the sterile one. Bacterial growth resulted within a few days in the formation of a biofilm, which lead to the cementation of the altered glass grains. Most of the constituents of the glass (Si, Mg, Fe, Ti, Ba, Co, Zn, Cu, Ni and Cr) were found in the biofilm, while the chemical composition of the bacterial cells was very different.  相似文献

An apertureless scanning near-field optical microscope (ASNOM) in reflection backscattering configuration is designed to conduct spectroscopic experiments on opaque samples constituted of latex beads. The ASNOM proposed takes advantage of the depth-discrimination properties of confocal microscopes to efficiently extract the near-field optical signal. Given their importance in a spectroscopic experiment, we systematically compare the lock-in and synchronous photon counting detection methods. Some results of Rayleigh's scattering in the near field of the test samples are used to illustrate the possibilities of this technique for reflection backscattering spectroscopy.  相似文献
