Minimax Optimal Control of Discrete-Time Uncertain Systems With Structured Uncertainty

Inthis paper we consider a guaranteed cost control problem fora class of uncertain discrete-time systems which contain structureduncertainties. The uncertainties are assumed to satisfy a certainsum quadratic constraint. The controller will be a minimax controllerin the sense that it minimizes the maximum value of a cost function.For a given initial condition, the minimax optimal controlleris constructed by solving a parameter dependent Riccati equation.This controller guarantees absolute stability of the closed loopsystem.

Application of optimal control theory to analysis of cancer chemotherapy regimens

Cancer chemotherapy with application of one drug is studied. The negative and inhibiting effect of the tumor on normal cells is taken into account. Under certain assumptions, we determine the optimal regimen that minimizes the tumor burden at the end of a fixed period of therapy while maintaining the normal cell population above a prescribed level.     

Materials based on highly concentrated ceramic binding suspensions (HCBS). Evaluation of methods for molding bauxite ceramic concretes

The processes of molding and vibromolding of laboratory samples and large-sized nested blocks for intermediate ladles are studied using bauxite mixtures of the same composition. The ceramic concretes obtained exhibit comparable porosity and strength characteristics, namely, substantial starting strength, significant strengthening upon low-temperature heat treatment, and insignificant shrinkage in service. An effect of substantial grinding of the bauxite filler in the structure of the mold is found even under conditions of a relatively low (25 MPa) molding pressure for nested-block molding on a friction press. Expert PID control system for blood glucose control in critically ill patients

In this paper, the design of an expert proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control system for blood glucose regulation in patients, such as the intensive care population, is described. The control system applied the concept of expert system, and proportional, integral and derivative control in clinical sliding table technique, to effect a control algorithm in the form of an "active" sliding table that is used to prescribe insulin infusion rates. This combination provided dynamic properties to the sliding table control. Clinical results have shown a comparable performance between the control system and routine clinical treatment, in terms of blood glucose level maintained. Nevertheless, the control system is sensitive to sensor reading artefact, particularly in the lower ranges of blood glucose level, mandating manual intervention.     

Oxidative Sorption Treatment To Remove Radionuclides from the Bottoms of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant

Treatment of the bottoms of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant to remove radionuclide using ferrocyanide sorbent was studied. To improve the efficiency of radionuclide sorption on the sorbent, the bottoms were subjected to a preliminary treatment involving oxidation of organic compounds and ferrocyanide precipitation. The oxidation was performed using hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate instead of expensive ozone. The conditions of ferrocyanide precipitation from the preliminarily oxidized bottoms and of further separation of the resulting precipitate were determined. It was found that ferrocyanide oxidation decreases the activity of the bottoms by more than two orders of magnitude.
