The pyroelectric properties of Pb(Zn(1/3)Nb(2/3))(0955)Ti(0.045)O(3) single crystals versus an electric field have been studied for energy harvesting in this paper. Two thermodynamic cycles (Stirling and Ericsson) were used for this purpose. By applying an electric field, a FE-FE transition was induced, abruptly increasing the polarization. This transition minimized the supplied energy and improved the harvested energy. By discharging the single crystal at a higher temperature, a gain of 1100% was obtained with the Stirling cycle at 1 kV/mm (gain is defined as harvested energy divided by supplied energy). The study revealed that Stirling cycles are more interesting for low electric fields. Based on experimental results, simulations were carried out to estimate energy harvesting in high electric fields to evaluate the performances of thin samples (single crystals or oriented thin films). At high electric fields, both cycles gave almost the same energy harvesting, but Ericsson cycles were more appropriate to control the voltage on the sample. The simulation led to a harvested energy of 500 mJ/g for an applied electric field equal to 50 kV/mm. The efficiency with respect to Carnot was raised 20%.  相似文献

In the quest of nano-objects for future electronics, silicon nanowires could possibly take over carbon nanotubes. Here we show the growth by self-organization of straight, massively parallel silicon nanowires having a width of 1.6 nm, which are atomically perfect and highly metallic conductors. Surprisingly, these silicon nanowires display a strong symmetry breaking across their widths with two chiral species that self-assemble in large left-handed and right-handed magnetic-like domains.  相似文献

Plant-seed parasite pollination mutualisms involve a specific pollinator whose larvae develop by consuming a fraction of the host plant seeds. These mutualisms are stable only if the plant can control seed destruction by the larvae. Here, we studied the chemical response of the European globeflower Trollius europaeus to infestation by an increasing number of Chiastocheta fly larvae. We used liquid chromatographic analysis to compare the content of phenolic compounds in unparasitized and parasitized fruits collected in two natural populations of the French Alps, and mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance to elucidate the structure of adonivernith, a C-glycosyl-flavone. This compound is present in many of the organs of T. europaeus, but not found in other Trollius species. Furthermore, it is overproduced in the carpel walls of parasitized fruits, and this induced response to infestation by fly larvae is density-dependent (increases with larval number), and site-dependent (more pronounced in the high-altitude site). Mechanical damage did not induce adonivernith production. This tissue-specific and density-dependent response of T. europaeus to infestation by Chiastocheta larvae might be an efficient regulation mechanism of seed-predator mutualist population growth if it decreases survival or growth of the larvae.  相似文献

A new method of generating nondiffracting beams is presented. It consists of focusing a Gaussian beam in the vicinity of an opaque disk. A beam is generated whose central peak is surrounded by a wide number of bright rings (approximately 250). After collimation, the beam propagates without changing the rings' radii, similar to a diffraction-free beam. The central peak can conserve its dimension over more than 5 m. The diameter of the central peak is adjusted by choosing the focal length of the collimating lens. Experimental results are well predicted by our theoretical developments that simulate exactly the paraxial diffraction.  相似文献

Renal ischaemia reperfusion (I/R) triggers a cascade of events including oxidative stress, apoptotic body and microparticle (MP) formation as well as an acute inflammatory process that may contribute to organ failure. Macrophages are recruited to phagocytose cell debris and MPs. The tyrosine kinase receptor MerTK is a major player in the phagocytosis process. Experimental models of renal I/R events are of major importance for identifying I/R key players and for elaborating novel therapeutical approaches. A major aim of our study was to investigate possible involvement of MerTK in renal I/R. We performed our study on both natural mutant rats for MerTK (referred to as RCS) and on wild type rats referred to as WT. I/R was established by of bilateral clamping of the renal pedicles for 30′ followed by three days of reperfusion. Plasma samples were analysed for creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), kidney injury molecule -1 (KIM-1), and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels and for MPs. Kidney tissue damage and CD68-positive cell requirement were analysed by histochemistry. monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), myeloperoxidase (MPO), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and histone 3A (H3A) levels in kidney tissue lysates were analysed by western blotting. The phagocytic activity of blood-isolated monocytes collected from RCS or WT towards annexin-V positive bodies derived from cultured renal cell was assessed by fluorescence-activated single cell sorting (FACS) and confocal microscopy analyses. The renal I/R model for RCS rat described for the first time here paves the way for further investigations of MerTK-dependent events in renal tissue injury and repair mechanisms.  相似文献

We report a tunable organometallic synthesis of monodisperse iron carbide and core/shell iron/iron carbide nanoparticles displaying a high magnetization and good air-stability. This process based on the decomposition of Fe(CO)(5) on Fe(0) seeds allows the control of the amount of carbon diffused and therefore the tuning of nanoparticles magnetic anisotropy. This results in unprecedented hyperthermia properties at moderate magnetic fields, in the range of medical treatments.  相似文献

Fluorophores have been extensively used as the signal mediator in biosensing and bioimaging for a long time. Enhancement of fluorescence can amplify the signal, thus improving the sensitivity, enabling earlier and accurate disease detection and diagnosis. Some metal nanoparticles, such as gold and silver, can generate a strong electromagnetic field on their surface (surface plasmon field) upon receiving photonic energy. When a fluorophore is placed in the field, the field can affect the fluorophore electrons participating in fluorescence emission and change the fluorescence output. The change can be from complete quenching to significant enhancement, depending on the metal type, particle size and shape, excitation/emission wavelengths and quantum yield of the fluorophore, and the distance between the fluorophore and the particle surface. In this study, the effects of these parameters on the fluorescence enhancement of commonly used fluorophores by gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are theoretically analyzed. Experimentally, an NIR contrast agent with enhanced fluorescence was developed by carefully tailoring the distance between Cypate (ICG based fluorophore) and a GNP, via biocompatible spacer constructs. The effect of the GNP size (3.7-16.4 nm) and spacer length (3.2-4.6 nm) on fluorescence enhancement was studied, and the spacer length that provided the significant enhancement was determined. The spacer of 3.9 nm with 16.4 nm GNP provided the fluorescence of 360% of the control. The experimental data qualitatively agreed with the theoretical results and, thus, the theoretical analysis can be used as a guide for significantly improving the sensitivity of existing fluorescent contrast agents by properly utilizing GNPs and spacers.  相似文献

Atomistic simulations were performed to study the diffusion and adsorption of Ca(2)UO(2)(CO3)3 and of some of its constituent species, i.e., UO(2)2+, CO(3)2–, and UO(2)CO3, in feldspar nanosized fractures. Feldspar is important to uranium remediation efforts at the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford site as it has been found in recent studies to host contaminants within its intragrain fractures. In addition, uranyl carbonate species are known to dominate U(VI) speciation in conditions relevant to the Hanford site. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations showed that the presence of the feldspar surface diminishes the diffusion coefficients of all of the species considered in this work and that the diffusion coefficients do not reach their bulk aqueous solution values in the center of a 2.5 nm fracture. Moreover, the MD simulations showed that the rate of decrease in the diffusion coefficients with decreasing distance from the surface is greater for larger adsorbing species. Free energy profiles of the same species adsorbing on the feldspar surface revealed a large favorable free energy of adsorption for UO(2)2+ and UO(2)CO3, which are able to adsorb to the surface with their uranium atom directly bonded to a surface hydroxyl oxygen, whereas adsorption of CO(3)2– and Ca(2)UO(2)(CO3)3, which attach to the surface via hydrogen bonding from a surface hydroxyl group to a carbonate oxygen, was calculated to be either only slightly favorable or unfavorable.  相似文献

Fast and accurate methods for predicting traffic properties and trend are essential for dynamic network resource management and congestion control. With the aim of performing online and feasible prediction of network traffic, this paper proposes a novel time series model, named adaptive autoregressive (AAR). This model is built upon an adaptive memory‐shortening technique and an adaptive‐order selection method originally developed by this study. Compared to the conventional one‐step ahead prediction using traditional Box–Jenkins time series models (e.g. AR, MA, ARMA, ARIMA and ARFIMA), performance results obtained from actual Internet traffic traces have demonstrated that the proposed AAR model is able to support online prediction of dynamic network traffic with reasonable accuracy and relatively low computation complexity.
