The influence of internal pressure on hardness of a pipe element

The influence of internal pressure on hardness of an elastic finite pipe element has been determined. This hardness increases under pressure under both compressive and stretching axial strains.     

A quasi-plasticity matrix for calculation of soil stiffness

A method for construction of a quasi-plasticity matrix for calculation of soil stiffness by the finite element method is proposed. This method uses the defining von Mises relation that takes into account the effect of the first two invariants of the stress tensor and the gradient deformation law associated with the defining relation. Results obtained on the basis of the von Mises condition are compared with experimental results and an optimal value of the variable parameter is found.     

Investigation of the characteristics of a large reflector antenna via a correlation radioastronomical method

The experimental characteristics of a 25-m reflector antenna used as part of a radiointerferometer with a base of 100 m are presented. The radiointerferometer operates in the 10-cm wave band on the basis of signals from natural extraterrestrial radio sources and artificial satellites. Measurement techniques and corresponding hardware are developed and investigated.

Anisotropic expansion of siliceous refractories

Conclusions During a study of the bloating of siliceous bodies we detected anisotropic expansion of the refractories and established its cause. Controlled regulation of the bloating of refractories is found to be possible.The rules obtained for the anisotropic expansion of refractories indicate the desirability of tightening up the specifications GOST; incorporating additional specifications about the measurement of shrinkage or expansion in the products.It can be assumed that further studies of this phenomenon will extend our ideas on the relationship between the structure of refractories in their production conditions and heat processing conditions.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 2, pp. 55–59, February, 1972.     

Characteristics of the electromagnetic radiation resulting from arbitrarily directed propagation of magnetostatic surface waves in an increasing transverse magnetic field

Radiation of the electromagnetic waves accompanying propagation of a magnetostatic surface wave with nonparallel directions of the phase and group velocities in a ferrite slab magnetized in its plane by a transverse linearly increasing magnetic field is analyzed using the model of accelerated motion of magnetic charges. It is shown that, at each point of the space surrounding the ferrite slab, the shape of the radiation pattern strongly depends on the angle between the direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the magnetic field and the direction of the wave vector of the magnetostatic surface wave.
