The diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella), a crucifer-specialist pest, has been documented to employ glucosinolates as host recognition cues for oviposition. Through the use of mutant Arabidopsis thaliana plants, we investigated the role of specific classes of glucosinolates in the signaling of oviposition by P. xylostella in vivo. Indole glucosinolate production in A. thaliana was found to be crucial in attracting oviposition. Additionally, indole glucosinolates functioned as oviposition cues only when in their intact form. 4-Methoxy-indol-3-ylmethylglucosinolate was implicated as an especially strong oviposition attractant in vitro, suggesting that indole glucosinolate secondary structure may play a role in P. xylostella host recognition as well. Aliphatic glucosinolate-derived breakdown products were found to attract P. xylostella, but only after damage or in the absence of indole glucosinolates. Furthermore, mutant plants lacking both intact indole glucosinolates and aliphatic glucosinolate breakdown products exhibited decreased oviposition attractiveness beyond that of the progenitor mutants lacking either component of the glucosinolate-myrosinase system. Therefore, we conclude that nonvolatile indole glucosinolates and volatile aliphatic glucosinolate breakdown products both appear to play important roles as host recognition cues for P. xylostella oviposition.  相似文献

The bacterial community structure in bulk water and in rhizosphere fractions of giant duckweed, Spirodela polyrrhiza, was quantitatively and qualitatively investigated by PCR-based methods using 6 environmental water samples to elucidate the mechanisms underlying selective accumulation of aromatic compound-degrading bacteria in the rhizosphere of S. polyrrhiza. S. polyrrhiza selectively accumulated a diverse range of aromatic compound-degrading bacteria in its rhizosphere, regardless of the origin of water samples, despite no exposure to phenol. The relative abundances of the catechol 1,2-dioxygenase (C12O) gene (C12O DNA) and catechol 2,3-dioxygenase (C23O) gene (C23O DNA) were calculated as the ratios of the copy numbers of these genes to the copy number of 16S rDNA and are referred to as the rhizosphere effect (RE) value. The RE values for C12O DNA and C23O DNA were 1.0 × 101–9.3 × 103 and 1.7 × 102–1.5 × 104 times as high, respectively, in rhizosphere fractions as in bulk water fractions, and these higher values were associated with a notably higher sequence diversity of C12O DNA and C23O DNA. The RE values during phenol degradation were 3.6 × 100–4.3 × 102 and 2.2 × 100–1.7 × 102, respectively, indicating the ability of S. polyrrhiza to selectively accumulate aromatic compound-degrading bacteria in its rhizosphere during phenol degradation. The bacterial communities in the rhizosphere fractions differed from those in the bulk water fractions, and those in the bulk water fractions were notably affected by the rhizosphere bacterial communities. S. polyrrhiza released more than 100 types of phenolic compound into its rhizosphere as root exudates at the considerably high specific release rate of 1520 mg TOC and 214 mg phenolic compounds/d/g root (wet weight). This ability of S. polyrrhiza might result in the selective recruitment and accumulation of a diverse range of bacteria harboring genes encoding C12O and C23O, and the subsequent accelerated degradation of phenol in the rhizosphere.  相似文献

In order to investigate a possible relationship between integrin degradation and water-holding capacity (WHC), integrin was quantified using western blot, and water mobility and distribution was measured by proton NMR T(2) relaxometry at 24h postmortem in pork (n=30) with a large variation in WHC (drip loss varying from 2.8% to 11.3%). Regression analyses revealed correlation coefficients of r=-0.32 (P=0.08) and r=0.40 (P=0.03) for the correlations between the content of integrin determined by western blot analysis and WHC determined as either drip loss or by NMR, respectively. Water mobility and distribution was also measured in 18 meat samples upon 7 days of aging, which revealed a correlation (r=0.54) between integrin content determined by western blot analysis 24h postmortem and the mobility of the myofibrillar water (T(21) relaxation time) at day 7. In contrast, no correlation could be established between integrin content 24h postmortem and WHC at day 7 determined by NMR as the amount of extramyofibrillar water (T(22) population) (r=-0.01). In conclusion, both visualisation by CLSM and quantification of integrin by western blot analyses of suggested that a strong link between integrin degradation and WHC in pork is questionable, whereas integrin degradation seems to have impact on the succeeding development in the mobility of the myofibrillar water.  相似文献

We fabricated xBaTiO3 (BT)/(1-x)[BaTiO3-Bi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3-BiFeO3] (BT-BMT-BF)?+?0.1?wt%MnCO3 composites by spark plasma sintering and investigated the effect of BT content x, BT powder size, and BT-BMT-BF composition on piezoelectric properties. For xBT/(1-x)(0.3BT-0.1BMT-0.6BF) +?0.1?wt%MnCO3 (x?=?0–0.75) composites with a 0.5-µm BT powder, the dielectric constant was increased with x, and the relative density was decreased at x?=?0.67 and 0.75, creating optimum BT content of x?=?0.50 with a piezoelectric constant d33 of 107?pC/N. When a larger 1.5-µm BT powder was utilized for the composite with x?=?0.50, the d33 value increased to 150?pC/N due to the grain size effect of the BT grains. To compensate for a compositional change from the optimum 0.3BT-0.1BMT-0.6BF due to partial diffusion between the BT and 0.3BT-0.1BMT-0.6BF grains, a 0.5BT/0.5(0.275BT-0.1BMT-0.625BF)?+?0.1?wt%MnCO3 composite with the 1.5-µm BT powder was fabricated. We obtained an increased d33 value of 166?pC/N. These results provided a useful composite design to enhance the piezoelectric properties.  相似文献

This article is meant as a gentle introduction to the topological terms that often play a decisive role in effective theories describing topological quantum effects in condensed matter systems. We first take up several prominent examples, mainly from the area of quantum magnetism and superfluids/superconductors. We then briefly discuss how these ideas are now finding incarnations in the studies of symmetry-protected topological phases, which are in a sense a generalization of the concept of topological insulators to a wider range of materials, including magnets and cold atoms.  相似文献

The underwater swimming manipulator (USM) is a snake‐like, multi‐articulated, underwater robot that is equipped with thrusters. One of the main purposes of the USM is to act like an underwater floating base manipulator. As such, it is essential to achieve good station‐keeping and trajectory tracking performance for the USM by using the thrusters and by using the joints to attain the desired position and orientation of the head and tail of the USM. In this ‘paper, we propose a sliding mode control (SMC) law, specifically the super‐twisting algorithm with adaptive gains, for the trajectory tracking of the USM's centre of mass. A higher‐order sliding mode observer is proposed for state estimation. Furthermore, we show the ultimate boundedness of the tracking errors. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed control law and show that it leads to better performance than a linear PD‐controller.  相似文献

Whereas topology optimization has achieved immense success, it involves an intrinsic difficulty. That is, optimized structures obtained by topology optimization strongly depend on the settings of the objective and constraint functions, i.e., the formulation. Nevertheless, the appropriate formulation is not usually obvious when considering structural design problems. Although trial-and-error to determine appropriate formulations are implicitly performed in several studies on topology optimization, it is important to explicitly support the process of trial-and-error. Therefore, in this study, we propose a new framework for topology optimization to determine appropriate formulations. The basic idea of this framework is incorporating knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) and topology optimization. Thus, we construct a database by collecting various and numerous material distributions that are obtained by solving various structural design problems with topology optimization, and find useful knowledge with respect to appropriate formulations from the database on the basis of KDD. An issue must be resolved when realizing the above idea, namely the material distribution in the design domain of a data record must be converted to conform to the design domain of the target design problem wherein an appropriate formulation should be determined. For this purpose, we also propose a material distribution-converting method termed as design domain mapping (DDM). Several numerical examples are used to demonstrate that the proposed framework including DDM successfully and explicitly supports the process of trial-and-error to determine the appropriate formulation.

The making of BaZrS3 thin films by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is demonstrated. BaZrS3 forms in the orthorhombic distorted-perovskite structure with corner-sharing ZrS6 octahedra. The single-step MBE process results in films smooth on the atomic scale, with near-perfect BaZrS3 stoichiometry and an atomically sharp interface with the LaAlO3 substrate. The films grow epitaxially via two competing growth modes: buffered epitaxy, with a self-assembled interface layer that relieves the epitaxial strain, and direct epitaxy, with rotated-cube-on-cube growth that accommodates the large lattice constant mismatch between the oxide and the sulfide perovskites. This work sets the stage for developing chalcogenide perovskites as a family of semiconductor alloys with properties that can be tuned with strain and composition in high-quality epitaxial thin films, as has been long-established for other systems including Si-Ge, III-Vs, and II-VIs. The methods demonstrated here also represent a revival of gas-source chalcogenide MBE.  相似文献

The objective of this investigation was to study the functional properties of Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp) flour and protein concentrate. The solubility of both samples were superior than 70% at pH above 6.7 and below 3.5. The water and oil absorption were 1.2 and 1.07 ml/g of sample and 0.87 and 1.73 ml/g of flour and protein concentrate samples, respectively. The minimum concentration of flour and protein concentrate needed for gelation was 20% and 12%, respectively. The emulsifying capacity of flour and concentrate was 129.35 g and 191.66 g oil/g of protein and the emulsion stability 87.50 and 97.97%, respectively, after 780 minutes. The foam capacity and stability of flour foam were 36.0% and 18.61, while of the concentrate were 44.70% and 78.97% after 90 minutes. These properties indicate that the flour as well as the concentrate could have application in various food systems.  相似文献
