Colorectal cancer is one of the major causes of cancer-related mortality in both men and women worldwide. This review focuses on preventing the initiation and promotion of neoplastic growth in colorectal cancer, particularly with natural dietary compounds. Chemoprevention is defined as the use of natural dietary compounds and/or synthetic substances that can delay, prevent, or even reverse the development of adenomas, as well as the progression from adenoma to carcinoma. The molecular mechanisms of their chemopreventive action are associated with the modulation of signaling cascades, gene expressions involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis and the suppression of chronic inflammation, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Here, we summarize the currently known targets and signaling pathways whereby natural dietary compounds interfere with the development of colorectal cancer, and thus providing evidence for these substances in colonic cancer chemopreventive action.  相似文献

Accidents and incidents often occur, because a basic and seemingly simple rule is ‘forgotten’, either unintentionally (error, lapse) or with some degree of deliberate negligence (violation). The present experiment examined the utility of a rehearsal and a last-minute reminder in reducing the magnitude of deviations from an important safety rule by qualified, but relatively inexperienced pilots, specifically, remaining above an altitude of 500-ft. A single rehearsal flight entailing a search for a target on the ground increased the minimum altitude in later flights, but this positive effect did not completely generalize when the target on the ground was changed. These results suggest that the rehearsal flight was encoded in a context-specific manner. The addition of an explicit, last minute reminder about the mandated minimum altitude just before each test flight failed to significantly alter the pilots’ behavior. The results are discussed with respect to their theoretical and practical implications.  相似文献

We fabricated well-defined 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-PEN) crystal arrays for use in electronic applications via a simple but effective method, the confined evaporative capillary flow (CEC) method. This has been accomplished by systematically controlling the contact line pinning at the edge of glass stylus and the outward hydrodynamic flow within the drying droplet with various processing solvents and surface properties of the substrate during solidification. We found that after CEC coating of TIPS-PEN solution dissolved into toluene onto SiO2 surface, ribbon-shaped TIPS-PEN crystals were well developed with a width of 20–100 μm and length of 300 μm – 2 mm, which is presumably owing to optimized capillary evaporation. Specifically, TIPS-PEN crystals present highly preferred crystal orientation along the (l 0 0) axis, which can lead to efficient charge transport in a lateral direction. Thus, TIPS-PEN field-effect transistors (FETs) exhibited a good hole mobility of 0.72 cm2/Vs.  相似文献

Triarylamine-based dual-function coadsorbents containing a carboxylic acid acceptor linked by extended π-conjugation aryl linkers (e.g., phenylene: HC-A3, naphthalene: HC-A4 and anthracene: HC-A5) were newly designed and synthesized. They were used as coadsorbents in organic dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on a porphyrin dye (hexyloxy-biphenyl-ZnP-CN-COOH (HOP)). For comparison, the π-conjugated phenyl linker (HC-A3) previously developed by our group was also used as a coadsorbent. The structural effects on the photophysical and electrochemical properties and DSSC performance were systematically investigated. As a result, the DSSCs based on HC-A4 and HC-5 displayed power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 8.2% and 5.1%, respectively, while the HC-A3-based DSSC achieved a PCE of 7.7%. In the case of HC-A4, both the short-circuit photocurrent densities (Jsc) and open-circuit voltages (Voc) of DSSCs were simultaneously improved to a large extent due to the more effective prevention of π−π stacking of organic dye molecules and the better light-harvesting effect at short wavelengths. The HC-A5-based DSSC exhibited a much lower short-circuit current (Jsc) and open-circuit voltages (Voc) compared to the HC-A4-based DSSC, due to the fact that the dihedral angle of the π-conjugated linkers was too high for electron injection into the TiO2 conduction band (CB) level. This had a reduced effect on preventing the π−π stacking of dye molecules, resulting in lower Jsc and Voc values.  相似文献
