To establish cheese as a dairy product with health benefits, we embarked on examining the multifunctional role of cheeses, especially in the field of cancer prevention. The current study was designed to investigate whether different types of commercial goat cheeses may possess antiproliferative activity, using an HL-60 human promyelocytic leukemia cell line as a cancer cell model. Among 11 cheese extracts tested at 500μg/mL, 6 (Crottin de Chavignol, Pouligny Saint-Pierre, Chabichou du Poitou, Valencay, Kavli, and Sainte-Maure de Touraine) resulted in a significant decrease of cell viability, which is consistent with a decrease in viable cell number. Compared with the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) value of individual cheeses in cellular proliferation assays, the Pouligny Saint-Pierre extract showed strong inhibition. Incubation of cells in the presence of Pouligny Saint-Pierre extract resulted in induction of cellular morphological changes and apoptotic DNA fragmentation as well as expression of the active form of caspase-3 protein. Based on the quantification of the ratio of free fatty acids to triglycerides in different cheese samples, a significant correlation was detected between lipolytic ripeness and IC(50) values for antiproliferative capacity tested in HL-60 cells. Oxygen incorporation for compensation of oxygen defects is investigated with La-silicate dielectrics in directly contacted with the Si substrate. The amount of oxygen is controlled by the temperature of annealing in oxygen atmosphere (oxygen annealing) and the thickness of the gate electrode. The positive shift in flatband voltage (VFB) by oxygen incorporation is an experimental evidence for defects compensation in La-silicate dielectrics. Optimum oxygen annealing provides the VFB shift toward positive direction without increasing equivalent oxide thickness (EOT). Although the oxygen annealing degrades the interfacial property at La-silicate/Si interface, subsequent forming gas annealing (FGA) can recover the interfacial property. It is experimentally revealed that the positive VFB shift of La-silicate dielectrics is stable even after subsequent FGA. The supplied oxygen in La-silicate is expected to maintain even after reducing process. Movement of Fermi level toward the Si valence band edge caused by oxygen incorporation is successfully observed by XPS. Moreover, no chemical reaction between La-silicate and Si substrate by oxygen annealing are confirmed from TEM observation and analyses of X-ray photoelectron spectra. This study evaluated phospholipids (PLs) containing n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) for their specific inherent effects and effects due to a combination of the presence of glycerophosphate structure and n-3 PUFAs on cholesterol metabolism in rats. Rats were fed a diet of AIN-93G containing soybean oil (SO, 7%), SO (5.8%)+fish oil (1.2%), SO (5.2%)+soybean PLs (1.8%), SO (5.2%)+PLs containing n-3 PUFAs (1.8%), and SO (4.0%)+fish oil (1.2%)+soybean PLs (1.8%). Diets with PLs containing n-3 PUFAs, and soybean PLs in combination with fish oil, resulted in decreased serum and liver cholesterol levels through enhancement of fecal cholesterol excretion and suppression of liver sterol regulatory element binding protein-2 mRNA expression compared with the diet containing soybean oil alone. This study shows that soybean PLs with added triacylglycerol that included n-3 PUFAs have the same effects on cholesterol metabolism as PLs containing n-3 PUFAs, and that these could be of benefit to people. 相似文献

With the aim of developing a novel perpendicular bit-patterned-media, combined process of thermal imprinting of glassy alloy thin film and embedding Co/Pd multilayer was developed. Nano hole array with a hole diameter of 30 nm was successfully formed onto Pd-based glassy alloy thin film by thermal imprinting. Co/Pd multilayer was overlaid on a textured Pd-based glassy alloy thin film. After finishing by sputter etching, prototype bit-patterned-media was prepared. Switching behavior examined under magnetic field of ±10 kOe reveals that the isolated magnetic dots began to switch at 10 kOe. These results suggest that the prototype composite has a strong possibility for the realization of next generation bit-patterned-media with high data density. 相似文献

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have attracted much attention due to their low up-front cost, easy network deployment, stable topology, robustness, reliable coverage, and so forth. These advantages are suitable for the disaster recovery applications in disaster areas, where WMNs can be advantageously utilized to restore network collapse after the disaster. In this paper, based on a new network infrastructure for WMNs, to guarantee high network performance, we focus on the issue of throughput optimization to improve the performance for WMNs. Owing to selecting different mesh router (MR) as the gateway will lead to different network throughput capacity, we propose a novel gateway selection technique to rapidly select the optimal MR as the gateway, in order to maximize the network throughput. In addition, we take into account the traffic distribution for the MR to eliminate traffic congestion in our method. The performance of our proposed method is evaluated by both numerical and simulated analysis. The simulation results demonstrate that the gateway selection method is effective and efficient to optimize the throughput for WMNs. 相似文献

Air filters collect particles by the mechanical collection mechanisms, namely, inertia, interception, gravitational settling, and Brownian diffusion. There exists the most penetrating particle size (MPPS) in submicron size range for which none of the collection mechanisms work effectively. In this study, we propose a new type of filter named as “centrifugal filter,” which collects aerosol particles by centrifugal force together with the conventional mechanical collection mechanisms. The centrifugal filter proposed in the present work may be rotated by a motor or compressed air. Air passes through the filter in the axial direction of filter rotation. The filter rotates so does the air embedded in the filter, and therefore centrifugal force exerts on particles. In addition to the mechanical collection mechanisms, small migration of particles due to the centrifugal force enhanced the collection efficiency of submicron particles significantly without increasing the pressure drop. The performance tests of centrifugal filter were conducted by changing the fiber diameter, the air flow velocity and the rotation speed. We found that the collection efficiency of filter is enhanced significantly by rotating the filter without increasing the pressure drop and that the filter efficiency is well predicted by the conventional filtration theory accounting for the centrifugal force.Copyright 2015 American Association for Aerosol Research 相似文献

We propose a novel vertical-cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) with Al(Ga)As multi-oxide layer (MOX) structure for the purpose of enlarging window aperture maintaining single transverse mode operation. We have fabricated an InGaAs-GaAs VCSEL with the proposed MOX structure formed on GaAs (311)B substrate. We have performed a numerical simulation to investigate single-mode behavior of the proposed structure and showed a possibility of single-mode VCSEL's with a large active area. We have fabricated an 11-μm current aperture 960-nm wavelength VCSEL with this MOX structure. The threshold current and voltage were 1.0 mA and 2.0 V, respectively, which are comparable to those of conventional oxide VCSELs. Energy consumption has increased remarkably over the past half century mainly due to increasing population and economic development. The influences of these two factors are considered. In most developed countries, such as Japan, France, Germany and Korea, the growth rate of energy consumption is due to economic development. The effects of population in Germany and Japan will substantially decline. In the USA, it is due to both factors as well as in the developing countries, such as China, India, Indonesia and Latin America. Economic success is more effective than increasing population in China, India and Indonesia, while both factors are roughly equal in Latin America. In Africa, though the growth rate depends on the effect of increasing population, its contribution to world energy consumption is small. On a worldwide scale, the growth rate of energy consumption will be affected by improving standards of living. 相似文献

Distributions of alkylphenols (APs) [i.e., nonylphenol (NP), octylphenol (OP)], and nonylphenol monoethoxylate (NP1EO) in wastewater effluents, river water, and riverine and bay sediments in the Tokyo metropolitan area were demonstrated. During sewage treatments, NP and OP were efficiently removed from the sewage effluents through activated sludge treatments. Greater removal for NP (93% on average) than OP (84% on average) was consistent with their partitioning behavior to particles in primary and secondary effluents. NP concentrations in the river water samples ranged from 0.051 to 1.08 microg/L with higher concentrations in summer and spring than in colder seasons. In the river water samples, approximately 20% of NP was found in the particulate phase. Organic carbon-normalized apparent partition coefficients (K'OC) for NP (10(5.22 +/- 0.38)) and OP (10(4.65 +/- 0.42)) were 1 order of magnitude higher than those expected from their octanol-water partition coefficients (K(OW)), indicating strong affinity of APs to aquatic particles. Among NP isomers, no significant differences in their K'OC values were suggested. This is consistent with surprisingly uniform isomer peak profiles among the technical standard and all the environmental samples analyzed. NP and OP were widely distributed in the river sediments in Tokyo, and relatively high concentrations (0.5-13.0 microg/g dry) of NP were observed in a long reach (approximately 10 km) in the Sumidagawa River. In situ production of APs in the river sediment was suggested. Seaward decreasing trend in APs concentration was observed from the estuary to the Tokyo Bay. APs were well preserved in a sediment core collected from the bay. The profile shows subsurface maximum of AP concentrations in the layer deposited around the mid-1970s. The recent decrease in AP concentrations can be attributed to the legal regulation of industrial wastewater in the early 1970s. 相似文献

Osteoporosis is a common bone disease, particularly in menopausal women. Herein, we screened four Kampo medicines (Unkeito (UKT), Kamishoyosan (KSS), Kamikihito (KKT), and Ninjinyoeito (NYT)), frequently used to treat menopausal syndromes, for their effects on receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation in RAW 264 cells. Considering that UKT exhibited the most potent effect, we examined its effect on RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis, the induction of osteoclast apoptosis, and the mechanisms underlying its effects. UKT inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation in the early stage and decreases osteoclast-related genes, including tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (Trap), dendritic cell-specific transmembrane protein (Dcstamp), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (Mmp9), and cathepsin K (Ctsk). Specifically, UKT inhibits the nuclear factor of activated T cells 1 (NFATc1), which is essential for osteoclastogenesis. UKT increases Bcl6, which antagonizes NFATc1 and Dc-stamp, thereby blocking the progression of osteoclasts to maturation. UKT also decreased nuclear translocation by downregulating the activity of p65/NF-κB. In addition, UKT enhances mononuclear osteoclast apoptosis via activation of caspase-3. Herein, we demonstrate that UKT suppresses RANKL-mediated osteoclastogenesis via the Blimp1–Bcl6 and NF-κB signaling pathways and enhances mononuclear osteoclast apoptosis. Furthermore, UKT prevents bone loss in OVX mice. Thus, UKT might be a potential therapeutic agent for postmenopausal osteoporosis. 相似文献
