Esters of l-ascorbic acid with long-chain fatty acids (E-304) are employed as antioxidants in foods rich in lipids. Although their enzymatic synthesis offers some advantages compared with the current chemical processes, most of the reported methods employ the immobilized lipase from Candida antarctica as biocatalyst and free fatty acids or activated esters as acyl donors. In order to diminish the cost of the process, we have investigated the synthesis of ascorbyl oleate and ascorbyl palmitate esters with the immobilized Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase Lipozyme TL IM—which is significantly less expensive than Novozym 435—and triglycerides as source of fatty acids. Lipozyme TL IM gave rise to a lower yield of 6-O-ascorbyl oleate than Novozym 435 when using triolein (64 vs. 84%) and olive oil (27 vs. 33%) as acyl donors. Both 6-O-ascorbyl oleate and 6-O-ascorbyl palmitate displayed excellent surfactant and antioxidant properties. The Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capability values for the oleate and palmitate were 71 and 84%, respectively, of those obtained with l-ascorbic acid; however, both derivatives were able to stabilize soybean oil towards peroxide formation.  相似文献

Laser ablation of solids in liquids technique has been used to obtain colloidal nanoparticles from biological hydroxylapatite using pulsed as well as a continuous wave (CW) laser. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements revealed the formation of spherical particles with size distribution ranging from few nanometers to hundred nanometers and irregular submicronic particles. High resolution TEM showed that particles obtained by the use of pulsed laser were crystalline, while those obtained by the use of CW laser were amorphous. The shape and size of particles are consistent with the explosive ejection as formation mechanism.  相似文献

Nonbiocidal techniques for wood protection have become more and more important in the last few years. One of the possible treatments to enhance wood durability is use of water repellents. In this research, the influence of one of the possible water repellents, the montan wax emulsion, on the moisturizing and the sorption characteristics of impregnated wood was investigated. To achieve a better protection against wood decay fungi, wood was impregnated with montan wax emulsion enriched with boric acid. The equilibrium moisture content (MC) was monitored during the adsorption and the desorption processes at five levels of relative air humidity (RH1 = 20%, RH2 = 33%, RH3 = 65%, RH4 = 88%, and RH5 = 98%). Water repellence efficiency was monitored in the chamber with high RH (87%) and during dipping in the water. Impregnated samples were also exposed outdoors in a covered position for 5 months to determine MC changes according to changes in outdoor humidity and temperature. The results showed that the sorption properties of the impregnated wood are strongly related to retention of preservative solutions after impregnation and its composition. Montan wax reduced equilibrium MC of the impregnated wood up to 25% (relatively), whereas specimens impregnated with combination of montan wax and boric acid resulted in decreased MC in some cases and in increased MC in some cases. When used by itself, polyethylene imine (PEI) does not perform well as cement fluid loss additive. Its combination with acetone formaldehyde sulfite (AFS) polycondensate, however, exhibits excellent filtration control. The mechanism underlying this synergistic effect was studied and the conditions producing best results were determined. For optimum performance, PEI and AFS must be reacted with each other to yield a polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) (d ~ 5–10 μm), which effectively plugs the pores of the cement filter cake. Composition, size, and effectiveness of the PEC are strongly influenced by the anionic charge amount of the AFS dispersant. Ionic interactions between cationic imine functionalities of PEI and anionic sulfonate groups existing in AFS were confirmed by conductivity, infrared, zeta potential, and particle size measurements. For AFS samples possessing different degrees of sulfonation, the largest particle size and hence best fluid loss performance of the PEC was found to occur at a PEI:AFS molar ratio, which corresponds to neutral charge. Occurrence of large PEC particles (d ~ 5 μm) within the cement filter cake pores was visualized by scanning electron microscopy, and their stability in highly alkaline cement pore solution was confirmed by particle size measurement. This article explores the chromatic reconstruction of La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina and seeks to protect its patrimonial heritage. This article is organized into three parts: an Introduction, a section entitled Searching for Colours, and a Conclusion. The Introduction explains the historical factors contributing to the large‐scale Italian immigration that settled in La Boca neighborhood as well as their influence in shaping the character and landscape of the area. This section also comments on the emergence of the zone's brightly coloured homes, which have become a trademark of the neighborhood. The second section, Searching for Colours, details the composition of the paints made and used by La Boca residents, in addition to the field research, the method of analysis and the results of the study. The Conclusion highlights the importance of preserving areas of significant historical and patrimonial heritage such as La Boca, an ever more timely challenge in an increasingly globalized world. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The fluid loss control performance of 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS®)‐based copolymers added to cement slurries was studied at 27 and 100°C, respectively. It was found that effectiveness of these fluid loss additives solely relies on achievement of a high adsorbed amount on the surface of cement. At elevated temperature (100°C), CaAMPS®‐N,N‐dimethyl acrylamide copolymer (CaAMPS®‐co‐NNDMA) exhibits reduced adsorption and hence decreased fluid loss control of the cement slurry. The reason behind this behavior is poor calcium binding capability of the sulfonate anchor groups, which coordinate with calcium atoms present on the mineral surface. Whereas, an increase in the sulfate concentration present in cement pore solution instigates partial coiling of CaAMPS®‐co‐NNDMA and causes only a slight influence on the performance of this copolymer. The elevated sulfate content results from thermal degradation of ettringite, a cement hydrate mineral produced during the early stages of cement hydration. Incorporation of minor amounts (~ 1.3 mol %) of maleic anhydride into this copolymer produces a terpolymer, which exhibits higher and more stable adsorption, even at high temperature. This effect is owed to the presence of homopolymer blocks of polycarboxylates distributed along the polymer trunk. On mineral surfaces, they present much stronger anchor groups than sulfonate functionalities, as evidenced by their higher calcium binding capability. Consequently, fluid loss performance of CaAMPS®‐co‐NNDMA‐co‐MA is little affected by temperature. Understanding the influence of temperature on the physicochemical interactions occurring between additives and the mineral surface can help to design more effective admixtures suitable for high temperature applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper we evaluate the stability, purity and regulated quality composition of fatty acids and sterols (both physico‐chemical and sensory) of commercial Argentinean virgin olive oils in order to evaluate their acceptance on the world market. For this purpose, samples of the best known and most widely distributed oils in supermarkets located in Buenos Aires (Argentina) were acquired. After thoroughly analysing these samples, only 20% were considered to have an acceptable quality. However, some were excluded because of their high campesterol content, which could be an intrinsic characteristic of these oils. The most useful analytical parameter used to confirm authenticity was ECN‐42 R – ECN‐42 T, followed by wax content and 3.5 stigmastadienes. Only 24% of the extra‐virgin olive oil samples were classified as ‘extra‐virgin’ from the regulated quality viewpoint. The low oleic and high linolenic acid contents of the Argentinean virgin olive oils stand out when compared with European virgin olive oils. The oxidative stability values may be considered very low, indeed even lower than those obtained in Spanish virgin olive oils.  相似文献

Camelina sativa oil (CO) is characterized by a high content (up to 40 wt %) of essential α‐linolenic acid and characteristic odour and flavour. Deodorization of highly unsaturated oils requires great attention as the refining process involves thermal treatment which affects oil integrity. In the present study RSM and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to optimize bench‐scale deodorization of CO. Mathematical models were generated through multiple regressions with backward elimination, describing the effects of process parameters (temperature, steam flow, time) on oil quality indicators [peroxide value (PV), p‐anisidine value (p‐AV), γ‐tocopherol (γ‐T) and oxidative stability (OS)]. Additionally, sensory evaluation was performed. RSM analysis showed a significant effect of deodorization temperature and to a lesser extent, deodorization steam flow and time on removal of oxidative compounds, flavour and odour. PCA of chemical and sensory results showed that deodorization temperature affected the sensory properties in the samples. The best conditions for removing undesirable flavour and odour were achieved by using a deodorization temperature of 195–210°C.  相似文献
