In the wireless sensor networks domain, one of the most used standards is IEEE 802.15.4. This standard has been made available on many low power operating systems such as TinyOS and Contiki OS. It is crucial for the implementation to be compliant with the specifications of the standard. In the case of Contiki OS, the provided version of the main medium access algorithm, unslotted Carrier Sensing Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA), presents many flaws. In this paper, we discuss the implementation of the provided CSMA/CA algorithm and we point out to the parts that do not respect the standard specifications. We also propose and implement a compliant version of this algorithm and show through simulation the correctness of the implementation.  相似文献

Growth of two Vibrio tubiashii strains under iron-chelated conditions resulted in the production of a hydroxymate-like siderophore, and expression of outer membrane proteins with homologies to proteins in Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio vulnificus which were not seen in cells grown under non-chelated growth conditions. PCR analysis using primers based on Listonella anguillarum’s ferric uptake Repressor protein (fur) gene detected a 316 bp fur gene homolog which also had sequence homology to the fur genes of V. cholerae and V. vulnificus. V. tubiashii cultured under iron-chelated growth conditions induced a greater fluid accumulation (FA) response in suckling mice than cells which were cultured under iron non-chelated growth conditions. Our observations that V. tubiashii possesses a fur-like gene homolog and expresses unique OMPs, a hydroxymate-like siderophore, and produces an increased fluid accumulation response in suckling mice when grown under iron-chelated condition support previous findings that V. tubiashii may have the essential components for the survival and establishment of infections and this report represents the first observations of competent iron acquisition system in V. tubiashii which is similar to those produced by other marine vibrios, many of which are pathogenic for humans.  相似文献

The regulation of dietary cholesterol absorption was examined in C57BL/6 and transgenic mice with liver overexpression of the scavenger receptor BI (SR-BI Tg). In C57BL/6 animals, feeding 0.02 to 1% (wt/wt) dietary cholesterol resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in the percentage of dietary cholesterol absorbed. A plot of total daily mass of dietary cholesterol absorbed versus the percentage by weight of cholesterol in the diet yielded a curve suggesting a saturable process with a Km of 0.4% (wt/wt) and a Vmax of 0.65 mg cholesterol/g body weight per day. Dietary cholesterol suppressed hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase activity, stimulated cholesterol 7alpha-hydroxylase activity, and enhanced fecal excretion of bile acids, but none of these changes correlated with the percentage of dietary cholesterol absorption. Dietary cholesterol also caused an increase in biliary cholesterol concentration, and in this case the concentration of biliary cholesterol was strongly and inversely correlated with the percentage dietary cholesterol absorption (r = -0.63, P < 0.0001). Biliary cholesterol concentration was also directly correlated with daily cholesterol intake, dietary cholesterol mass absorption, and liver cholesterol ester content. Transgene-induced overexpression of SR-BI resulted in a stimulation of excretion of cholesterol into the bile and suppressed percentage dietary cholesterol absorption. Furthermore, biliary cholesterol levels in SR-BI Tg mice were strongly and inversely correlated with the percentage of dietary cholesterol absorbed (r = -0.99, P < 0.0008). In summary, these results suggest that the excretion of cholesterol into the bile plays an important role in regulating the percentage absorption of dietary cholesterol.  相似文献

This study shows markedly different isotype distributions of antibodies to asexual blood stages of Plasmodium falciparum and to merozoite surface protein 1 in clinically immune Senegalese adults depending on the study site. The relationships between immunoglobulin M (IgM) and IgG and between IgG3 and IgG1 antibodies differed in settings where transmission is perennial compared to settings where it is seasonal. This suggests a role for antibody class and/or subclass production and utilization in the regulation of protective immunity to such antigens.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted in order to determine whether the effects of tamoxifen in elderly, frail nursing home residents are similar to those that have been previously reported for younger postmenopausal women. DESIGN: A chart review study. SETTING: The Jewish Home and Hospital for Aged (JHHA), a subacute long-term care facility. PARTICIPANTS: One hundred fifty-eight women who had been at the JHHA at any time since 1986. One hundred ten had a history of breast cancer; 43 of these had been treated with tamoxifen while at the JHHA (Group I), and 66 had not (Group II). The remaining 49 women had no history of breast cancer (Group III). MEASUREMENTS: Data were collected from the time of admission to the JHHA through August, 1994 on: chemistry profiles, bone fractures apparently not a consequence of metastasis, gynecological parameters, and thromboemboli. RESULTS: The lack of pre-admission clinical information presented problems regarding research design and the interpretation of our findings. Nevertheless, compared to women who had not been treated with tamoxifen, treated women had a significantly elevated incidence of vaginal discharge (P = 0.01) and a lower prevalence of elevated total cholesterol (P = 0.04). Although not statistically significant, they also had decreased levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol and an increased incidence of thromboemboli and bone fractures. CONCLUSIONS: While some of the effects of tamoxifen in elderly, frail women are similar to those observed in younger, postmenopausal women, others may be different. Our results suggest a need for further innovative studies that focus on the consequences of tamoxifen treatment in the elderly, frail population.  相似文献

Scavenger receptor type B class I (SR-BI), initially identified as a receptor that recognizes low density lipoprotein (LDL), was recently shown to mediate the selective uptake of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesteryl esters in liver and steroidogenic tissues. To evaluate effects on atherosclerosis, transgenic mice with liver-specific overexpression of SR-BI (SR-BI Tg mice) have been crossed onto LDL receptor-deficient backgrounds. To induce atherosclerosis in a setting of moderate hypercholesterolemia, heterozygous LDL receptor-deficient mice (LDLR1) were fed a high fat/cholesterol/bile salt diet, and homozygous LDL receptor knock-outs (LDLR0) were fed a high fat/cholesterol diet. LDLR1/SR-BI Tg mice showed decreases in VLDL, LDL, and HDL cholesterol and a significant 80% decrease in mean lesion area in the aortic root compared with LDLR1 mice (female LDLR1 74, 120 micrometers(2) versus LDLR1/SR-BI Tg 12, 667 micrometers(2); male 25, 747 micrometers(2)++ versus 5, 448 micrometers(2), respectively). LDLR0/SR-BI Tg mice showed decreased LDL and HDL cholesterol but increased VLDL cholesterol and no significant difference in extent of atherosclerosis compared with LDLR0 mice. Combined data analysis showed a strong correlation between atherosclerotic lesion area and the VLDL+LDL cholesterol level but no correlation with HDL level. These studies demonstrate a strong anti-atherogenic potential of hepatic SR-BI overexpression. In mice with marked overexpression of SR-BI, the protective effect appears to be primarily related to the lowering of VLDL and LDL cholesterol levels.  相似文献

Investigation of foodborne diseases requires the capture and analysis of time-sensitive information on microbial pathogens that is derived from multiple analytical methods and sources. The web-based Pathogen-annotated Tracking Resource Network (PATRN) system (www.patrn.net) was developed to address the data aggregation, analysis, and communication needs important to the global food safety community for the investigation of foodborne disease. PATRN incorporates a standard vocabulary for describing isolate metadata and provides a representational schema for a prototypic data exchange standard using a novel data loading wizard for aggregation of assay and attribution information. PATRN currently houses expert-curated, high-quality “foundational datasets” consisting of published experimental results from conventional assays and next generation analysis platforms for isolates of Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio and Cronobacter species. A suite of computational tools for data mining, clustering, and graphical representation is available. Within PATRN, the public curated data repository is complemented by a secure private workspace for user-driven analyses, and for sharing data among collaborators. To demonstrate the data curation, loading wizard features, and analytical capabilities of PATRN, three use-case scenarios are presented. Use-case scenario one is a comparison of the distribution and prevalence of plasmid-encoded virulence factor genes among 249 Cronobacter strains with similar attributes to that of nine Cronobacter isolates from recent cases obtained between March and October, 2010–2011. To highlight PATRN's data management and trend finding tools, analysis of datasets, stored in PATRN as part of an ongoing surveillance project to identify the predominant molecular serogroups among Cronobacter sakazakii isolates observed in the USA is shown. Use-case scenario two demonstrates the secure workspace available for private users to upload and analyze sensitive data, and for collating cross-platform datasets to identify and validate congruent datapoints. SNP datasets from WGS assemblies and pan-genome microarrays are analyzed in a combinatorial fashion to determine relatedness of 33 Salmonella enterica strains to six strains collected as part of an outbreak investigation. Use-case scenario three utilizes published surveillance results that describe the incidence and sources of O157:H7 E. coli isolates associated with a produce pre-harvest surveillance study that occurred during 2002–2006. In summary, PATRN is a web-based integrated platform containing tools for the management, analysis and visualization of data about foodborne pathogens.  相似文献

A software program for experimental design and response surface methodology (RSM) was used to set up and evaluate the effect of modifiers in mixed polyolefin fractions. Sheet extruded blends of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), 2 different high-density polyethylenes (HDPE) and 2 different polypropylenes (PP) were prepared and characterized by tensile tests and tear tests. Ethylene–vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), a very-low-density polyethylene (VLDPE) and a poly(1-butene) (PB) were used as modifiers at levels up to 20 wt % in order to improve the toughness of PE–PP blends. LLDPE, in which 1-butene is the comonomer, is most compatible with the PPs. The VLDPE generally gives the most substantial gain in tensile strength and tear propagation resistance, and it also has the ability to smooth out effects of variations in the composition of PE–PP mixtures. For HDPE–PP blends, the EVA and PB are also effective modifiers. PB acts as a plasticizer in the PP phase whereas VLDPE forms a separate rubbery phase. Infection of human monocyte-derived macrophages (HMDM) and J774 cells (murine macrophage cell line) with several enteroaggregative and cytodetaching Escherichia coli (EAggEC and CDEC, respectively) strains demonstrated that some strains could induce macrophage cell death accompanied by release of lactate dehydrogenase activity and interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta) into culture supernatants. The mode of cell death differed in the two types of macrophages. Damage to macrophage plasma membrane integrity without changes in nuclear morphology resulted in cytolysis of HMDM. This mechanism of cell death has been previously described for virulent Shigella infection of HMDM and is termed oncosis. In contrast, infection of J774 cells by EAggEC and CDEC strains resulted in apoptosis. The presence of alpha-hemolysin (Hly) in EAggEC and CDEC strains appears to be critical for both oncosis in HMDM and apoptosis in J774 cells. Bacteria lacking Hly, including Hly- EAggEC strains as well as enterotoxigenic, enteropathogenic, and enterohemorrhagic E. coli strains, behaved like avirulent Shigella flexneri in that the macrophage monolayers were intact, with no release of lactate dehydrogenase activity or IL-1beta into the culture supernatants.  相似文献
