PACS, a computer program to simulate very slow settling of rigid equal spheres into a randomly packed bed, is described. Simulated packings of 6,000, 10,000, and 15,000 spheres are anisotropic. Mean void fraction is 0.42 and mean number of nearest neighbours 6.0. There are numerous cases of four spheres arranged in a tetrahedron, but no larger ordered regions. These findings, plus local voidage, distribution of circles in a section, angular distribution, and radial distribution are compared to theoretical and experimental results. 相似文献

Bronchoalveolar lavage is a new method of evaluating the inflammatory and immune processes of the human lung. Sufficient material are obtained from normal individuals to allow characterization of cells and proteins. Comparisons with lung biopsies show that these constituents are representative for the composition of the alveolar structures. The effects of zinc and copper salts on the survival of the two species of freshwater fish, common carp, Cyprinus carpio, and grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellus, were investigated. It was discovered that the levels of tolerance to the concentration of the metals were species-specific. Cyprinus carpio was found to be more susceptible to copper, whereas Ctenopharyngodon idellus was more susceptible to zinc. In general, copper was more toxic than zinc, as revealed by the survival times. The body and the gills of dead fish seemed to be covered by a veil-like film which looked like coagulated mucus and which was formed by the heavy-metal ions reacting with some constituents of the mucus and which was formed by the heavy-metal ions reacting with some constituents of the mucus secreted by the gill. The histopathological assessment of the gill and liver of Cyprinus carpio was also carried out. Particles were observed around the gills of the dead fish treated with zinc and copper salts, although no other major changes were found in the gill. Several histopathological changes were observed in the livers, including the presence of particles. The symptoms of the liver suggested that the internal injury was also an important feature of the intoxicants. 相似文献

A comparison was made of the esterase and activator activities of the various activated forms of human plasminogen and their streptokinase complexes with Nalpha-Cbz-L-lysine-p-nitrophenyl ester as the substrate. The steady state kinetic properties of Glu- and Lys-plasmins, and Glu- and Lys-plasminogen-streptokinase complexes were identical, while the Lys-plasmin-streptokinase complex showed a 2-fold increase in Km with the same kcat and a 3-fold increase in Ki for the competitive inhibitor leupeptin. Lys-plasminogen (zymogen with an active site) was prepared which incorporated 0.7 mol of [3H]idisopropyl phosphorofluoridate and 0.43 mol of p-nitrophenyl-p'-guanidinobenzoate/mol of protein. The Km for Lys-plasminogen was 3-fold higher than that of Lys-plasmin, and its maximum velocity 10-fold lower. The steady state kinetic parameters of a plasmin-derived light (B) chain (CmCys)3, and a derived equimolar light (B) chain-streptokinase complex (CmCys)3, isolated from human plasmin and equimolar plasmin-streptokinase, or plasminogen-streptokinase, complexes, respectively, were determined. When the light (B) chain-streptokinase complex is isolated from its parent complexes, there is a complete retention of the original parent's esterase activities, with respect to Km and kcat, and interaction with the competitive inhibitors benzamidine and leupeptin. The plasmin-derived light (B) chain does not retain its parent esterase activities. This chain has very similar kinetic properties to Lys-plasminogen except that streptokinase, in an equal molar amount, does not impart full esterase activity to the light (B) chain whereas the zymogen can be completely activated by streptokinase. The kcat of the plasmin-derived light (B) chain, and its streptokinase complex can be enhanced by 50 and 30%, respectively, in the presence of 10(-4) M leupeptin, a competitive inhibitor of plasmin, attesting to the increased structural flexibility within the active site of this enzyme species. Urokinase hydrolyzes Nalpha-Cbz-L-lysine p-nitrophenyl ester efficiently with a kcat/Km of one-third that of plasmin. The human plasminogen activator activities of various activated forms of human plasminogen and their equimolar streptokinase complexes were compared in a kinetic assay. The Lys-plasmin-streptokinase complex, and streptokinase were the least active of the activator species and were approximately equal in their activator activities. Glu- and Lys-plasminogen-streptokinase complexes had approximately 1.5 times the activity of streptokinase, whereas the equimolar light (B) chain-streptokinase complexes had approximately 2- to 3-times the activator activity of streptokinase. Since the esterase activity remained unchanged, this indicates a greater degree of specificity in the active site of the equimolar light (B) chain-streptokinase activator complex. An array of electrode tips with 6-microm center-to-center spacing, fabricated through chemical etching of an optical fiber bundle, and coated with gold, was used for initiating electrochemiluminescence (ECL) in an aqueous solution of Ru(bpy)3(2+) and tri-n-propylamine (TPrA). ECL generated at the tips of the electrodes in the array was detected with a CCD camera and exhibited both high sensitivity and high resolution. In the case in which the ECL signal could not be distinguished from the background, ECL signals could be obtained by pulsing the array and summing multiple CCD images. The cerebellar model articulation controller (CMAC) has some attractive features, namely fast learning capability and the possibility of efficient digital hardware implementation. Although CMAC was proposed many years ago, several open questions have been left even for today. The most important ones are about its modeling and generalization capabilities. The limits of its modeling capability were addressed in the literature, and recently, certain questions of its generalization property were also investigated. This paper deals with both the modeling and the generalization properties of CMAC. First, a new interpolation model is introduced. Then, a detailed analysis of the generalization error is given, and an analytical expression of this error for some special cases is presented. It is shown that this generalization error can be rather significant, and a simple regularized training algorithm to reduce this error is proposed. The results related to the modeling capability show that there are differences between the one-dimensional (1-D) and the multidimensional versions of CMAC. This paper discusses the reasons of this difference and suggests a new kernel-based interpretation of CMAC. The kernel interpretation gives a unified framework. Applying this approach, both the 1-D and the multidimensional CMACs can be constructed with similar modeling capability. Finally, this paper shows that the regularized training algorithm can be applied for the kernel interpretations too, which results in a network with significantly improved approximation capabilities. 相似文献

We propose a novel approach to cross-lingual language model and translation lexicon adaptation for statistical machine translation
(SMT) based on bilingual latent semantic analysis. Bilingual LSA enables latent topic distributions to be efficiently transferred
across languages by enforcing a one-to-one topic correspondence during training. Using the proposed bilingual LSA framework,
model adaptation can be performed by, first, inferring the topic posterior distribution of the source text and then applying
the inferred distribution to an n-gram language model of the target language and translation lexicon via marginal adaptation. The background phrase table is
enhanced with the additional phrase scores computed using the adapted translation lexicon. The proposed framework also features
rapid bootstrapping of LSA models for new languages based on a source LSA model of another language. Our approach is evaluated
on the Chinese–English MT06 test set using the medium-scale SMT system and the GALE SMT system measured in BLEU and NIST scores.
Improvement in both scores is observed on both systems when the adapted language model and the adapted translation lexicon
are applied individually. When the adapted language model and the adapted translation lexicon are applied simultaneously,
the gain is additive. At the 95% confidence interval of the unadapted baseline system, the gain in both scores is statistically
significant using the medium-scale SMT system, while the gain in the NIST score is statistically significant using the GALE
