One of the challenging tasks in Personal Communication Services (PCS) is to efficiently maintain the location of PCS subscribers who move from one region to another (hereafter called mobile users). When a mobile user receives a call, the network has to quickly determine its current location. The existing location management scheme suffers from high signaling traffic in locating the mobile users. Two-level forwarding pointer scheme has been proposed from per-user forwarding pointer scheme to reduce the cost of signaling traffic. In this paper, we enhance the two-level forwarding pointer scheme. When a mobile user moves from its current Registered Area (RA), which is served by Mobile Switching Center (MSC), to another RA the local switch that acts as a parent of those two MSCs maintains this movement in its memory (hereafter called cache entry). A cache entry is used to locate rapidly the mobile user instead of querying the Home Location Register (HLR) and waiting for its reply. HLR is centralized in the network and far away from the mobile users so that the signaling traffic crossing it is expensive. Sometimes the cache entry may be failed to reach the mobile user then a two-level forwarding pointers will be created from the corresponding Visitor Location Register (VLR), attached to its MSC, through a correct path to locate the mobile user. Thus, there is a saving in cost of querying the underlying HLR. The analytical results indicate that such proposal efficiently reduces the signaling traffic cost for all values of Call to Mobility Ratio (CMR), this is especially considerable when CMR ≥1, without any increase in the call setup delay. He is the Director, National Telecommunication Institute – Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt and Professor of Electrical and Communication Engineering Dept. Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt. M. I. Marie received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in electronic and communication engineering from Cairo University on 1972, 1981, 1985, respectively. Now he is a professor of communications at Computer and System Engineering department Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. His fields of interest includes digital communication, computer networks and protocols development. M. Zaki (azhar@mailer.scu.eun.eg) is the professor of software engineering, Computer and System Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Al-Azhar University at Cairo. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Cairo University in 1968 and 1973 respectively. He received his Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from Warsaw Technical University, Poland in 1977. The purpose of this paper is to empirically examine determinants of e-commerce adoption among Malaysian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study tested eight hypotheses on determinants affecting e-commerce adoption with empirical data from several survey instruments: an online questionnaire-based survey, mailed survey and questionnaire collected in-person from a sample of 307 SMEs in Malaysia. The findings show that e-commerce adoption within Malaysian SMEs is affected by perceived relative advantage, perceived compatibility, managers/owner's knowledge and expertise, management characteristics and external change agents. This study contributes to enhancing the understanding of the determinants of adopting e-commerce in SMEs and provides some interesting perspective from Malaysia. Those parties interested in promoting their business online may find these results helpful in guiding their efforts.  相似文献

Few studies have focused on the use of ocean colour remote sensors in the Gulf of Gabes (southeastern Tunisia). This work is the first study to evaluate the ocean colour chlorophyll-a product in this area. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were measured during oceanographic cruises performed off the Gulf of Gabes. These measurements were used to validate satellite data acquired from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite. First, two atmospheric correction procedures (standard and shortwave infrared) were tested to derive the remote-sensing reflectance, and then a comparison between two bio-optical (OC3M and MedOC3) algorithms were realized using the in situ measurements. Both atmospheric correction procedures gave similar results when applied to our study area indicating that most pixels were non-turbid. The comparison between bio-optical algorithms shows that using the regional bio-optical algorithm MedOC3 improves chlorophyll-a estimation in the Gulf of Gabes for the low values of this parameter.  相似文献

Centrifuge modeling of the 17th Street Canal and Orleans Canal North levees was performed in this study. During hurricane Katrina the levees on the 17th Street Canal failed, leading to breaches in the outfall canal in the city. Two mechanisms were observed in the centrifuge modeling that could cause a breach. First, a water-filled crack formed in front of the floodwall as the water in the canal rose above the top of the levee. The levees on the 17th Street Canal, which were supported on clay foundations, failed when this cracking led to a translational (sliding) failure in the clay layer commencing at the toe of the floodwall. The levees at Orleans Canal North, where failure did not occur, were also modeled to demonstrate that the model tests could successfully simulate failure and nonfailure conditions. The centrifuge model tests identified the importance of the crack formation in relation to the stability of the floodwall. These tests also confirmed that levee geometry, floodwall depth of penetration, and the underlying soil profile were all critical to the performance of the system under flood loading.  相似文献

It has been shown that, for the case of one-step reactions of arbitrary order, the relationship between the average current density and the limiting current density on a working electrode mounted on the inner radius of an annular flow channel of arbitrary length obeys, with great accuracy, the same relations as does a reaction on a uniformly accessible surface. This allows us to combine the advantages of non-uniformly accessible surfaces (high sensitivity, and no need to use rotating contacts) with the advantages of uniformly accessible surface systems (simple treatment of experimental data). This feature can be very important when investigating systems at high temperatures and pressures, where RDEs are difficult to employ. Using this approach, and by employing previously measured polarization data, the kinetic parameters (exchange current density and anodic transfer coefficient) for the oxidation of hydrogen on platinized nickel in 0.1 M NaOH + 0.7 × 10−3 m H2 at temperatures between 25 °C and 300 °C have been derived. The anodic transfer coefficient is found to be almost temperature independent with a value of 0.43. The exchange current density displays Arrhenius behavior with temperature, increasing from 1.9 × 10−4 A cm−2 at 25 °C to 3.9 × 10−3 A cm−2 at 300 °C.  相似文献

Modeling of metal cutting has proved to be particularly complex, especially for tool-chip interface. The present work is mainly aimed to investigate the limiting shear stress at this interface in the case of Titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) dry cutting based on a FE-model. It is first shown that the surface limiting shear stress was linked to the contact pressure and the coefficient of friction (CoF). A relationship between CoF and the limiting shear stress was given, and the effect of the temperature on the limiting shear stress was also considered. After that, an orthogonal cutting model was developed with an improved friction model through the user subroutine VFRIC in Abaqus/Explicit software. The numerical results obtained were compared with experimental data gathered from literature and a good overall agreement was found. Finally, the effects of cutting speed, CoF and tool-rake angle on chip morphologies were analyzed.  相似文献

Resource allocation and leveling are among the top challenges in project management. Due to the complexity of projects, resource allocation and leveling have been dealt with as two distinct subproblems solved mainly using heuristic procedures that cannot guarantee optimum solutions. In this paper, improvements are proposed to resource allocation and leveling heuristics, and the Genetic Algorithms (GAs) technique is used to search for near-optimum solution, considering both aspects simultaneously. In the improved heuristics, random priorities are introduced into selected tasks and their impact on the schedule is monitored. The GA procedure then searches for an optimum set of tasks' priorities that produces shorter project duration and better-leveled resource profiles. One major advantage of the procedure is its simple applicability within commercial project management software systems to improve their performance. With a widely used system as an example, a macro program is written to automate the GA procedure. A case study is presented and several experiments conducted to demonstrate the multiobjective benefit of the procedure and outline future extensions.  相似文献

A new 10-GHz microwave source which utilizes picosecond photoconductors is presented. Experimental results are given, including details of a comprehensive noise study. J. D. Smith and colleagues (J. P. Minda & J. D. Smith, 2001; J. D. Smith & J. P. Minda, 1998, 2000; J. D. Smith, M. J. Murray, & J. P. Minda, 1997) presented evidence that they claimed challenged the predictions of exemplar models and that supported prototype models. In the authors' view, this evidence confounded the issue of the nature of the category representation with the type of response rule (probabilistic vs deterministic) that was used. Also, their designs did not test whether the prototype models correctly predicted generalization performance. The present work demonstrates that an exemplar model that includes a response-scaling mechanism provides a natural account of all of Smith et al's experimental results. Furthermore, the exemplar model predicts classification performance better than the prototype models when novel transfer stimuli are included in the experimental designs.
