Fish behaviour is one biological organisational level regularly used to assess the state of freshwater ecosystems and can be monitored using fish telemetry methods. The development of activity sensors incorporated into fish telemetered tags allows for non-spatial movement to be detected and is increasingly used to understand the energy budgets and response and fine-scale behaviour of fishes. In addition, detecting tagged fish remotely and in real time highlights the need to process fish activity data in near real time to make it relevant to managers in the water resource sector. Our study on Labeobarbus natalensis, a cyprinid, in the uMngeni River in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, adapted and then tested the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA), as developed for financial predictive modelling, using activity data from fish. To determine changes in behaviour, we compared the EWMA-predicted fish behaviour against the present fish behaviour. We showed that the EWMA could adequately detect changes in behaviour on both individual and population levels. Changes in behaviour are potentially indicative of a change in environmental conditions and thus were developed into management alerts. We conducted further analyses using generalised additive mixed models (GAMM) to determine the relationship between fish activity and the environmental data collected. The GAMMs helped determine the potential drivers for changes in behaviour where the EWMA could detect these in real time. Detecting changes in behaviour in real time as a result of environmental variables can identify thresholds of potential concern influencing management decisions and allow managers to respond, contributing to improving effective freshwater management.  相似文献

A grade 2 commercially pure (CP) titanium was processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) at pressures of 3.0 and 6.0 GPa in order to achieve improved strengths. The microhardness values for these Ti samples were plotted against the imposed strain, and the plots show that a higher saturation microhardness of 320 Hv is achieved for the sample processed at 6.0 GPa compared to a microhardness of 305 Hv when using a pressure of 3.0 GPa. The omega ω-phase has been reported in some earlier HPT investigations of pure titanium, but it was not detected in this investigation even after processing at 6.0 GPa. The absence of the ω-phase is attributed to the relatively high level of oxygen (0.25 wt%) in these CP titanium samples. The higher saturation hardness for the 6.0 GPa sample is consistent with the smaller average grain size of ~105 ± 12 nm compared with the measured grain size of ~130 ± 18 nm after processing with an imposed pressure of 3.0 GPa.  相似文献

Commercial purity titanium was processed by equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) for 8 passes and then subjected to dynamic compressive testing using a split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) facility with an imposed strain rate of ~4000 s?1 and testing temperatures from 288 to 673 K. The results show that ECAP produces an average grain size of ~0.3 μm in transverse sections, but grains which are elongated in longitudinal sections. During dynamic compressive testing at temperatures ranging from 288 to 473 K, the grain shapes and sizes remain unchanged in the transverse sections, but the elongated shapes in the longitudinal sections evolve into polygons due to cell dislocation evolution. At 673 K, the grains become equiaxed with an average size of ~1.8 μm thereby demonstrating the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization. It is shown that the flow stresses decrease with increasing temperature from 288 to 673 K, and there is also a reduction in the rate of strain hardening.  相似文献

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) can achieve contactless human vital signs monitoring, but its signal quality is limited by the remote operation nature. In practical applications, improving the rPPG signal quality becomes an essential task. As a remote imaging technique, rPPG utilizes a camera to capture a video of a skin area, especially the facial area, then focuses on a particular sub-area as the region of interest (ROI). In this paper, we investigated a novel adaptive ROI (AROI) approach for improving the rPPG signal quality. In this approach, block-based spatial-temporal division is performed on a captured face video. Based on these segmented video pipelines, the spatial-temporal quality distribution of the rPPG signals is estimated using a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) feature. Afterwards, AROIs are calculated through mean-shift clustering and adaptive thresholding in SNR maps. As the AROI can be dynamically adjusted according to the spatial-temporal quality distribution of rPPG signals on the face, the quality of the final recovered rPPG signal is improved. The performance of the proposed AROI approach was evaluated with both still and moving subjects. Compared to conventional ROI methods for rPPG, the proposed AROI obtained a higher accuracy in heart rate measurement. And the state-of-the-art motion-resistant rPPG techniques can be effectively enhanced through being integrated with the AROI.  相似文献

The statistical language R and its Bioconductor package are favoured by many biostatisticians for processing microarray data. The amount of data produced by some analyses has reached the limits of many common bioinformatics computing infrastructures. High Performance Computing systems offer a solution to this issue. The Simple Parallel R Interface (SPRINT) is a package that provides biostatisticians with easy access to High Performance Computing systems and allows the addition of parallelized functions to R. Previous work has established that the SPRINT implementation of an R permutation testing function has close to optimal scaling on up to 512 processors on a supercomputer. Access to supercomputers, however, is not always possible, and so the work presented here compares the performance of the SPRINT implementation on a supercomputer with benchmarks on a range of platforms including cloud resources and a common desktop machine with multiprocessing capabilities. Various temporal extensions to the relational model have been proposed. All of these, however, deviate significantly from the original relational model. This paper presents a temporal extension of the relational algebra that is not significantly different from the original relational model, yet is at least as expressive as any of the previous approaches. This algebra employs multidimensional tuple time-stamping to capture the complete temporal behavior of data. The basic relational operations are redefined as consistent extensions of the existing operations in a manner that preserves the basic algebraic equivalences of the snapshot (i.e., conventional static) algebra. A new operation, namely temporal projection, is introduced. The complete update semantics are formally specified and aggregate functions are defined. The algebra is closed, and reduces to the snapshot algebra. It is also shown to be at least as expressive as the calculus-based temporal query language TQuel. In order to assess the algebra, it is evaluated using a set of twenty-six criteria proposed in the literature, and compared to existing temporal relational algebras. We have examined the esterification of [3H]cholesterol following the intratracheal instillation of a tracer amount into the isolated rat lung perfused with Krebs bicarbonate containing 4.5% albumin. At 5, 30 and 60 min after instillation, lungs were lavaged at 2°C with 3×10 ml of 0.15 M NaCl, each volume instilled and withdrawn three times. Each lung was lavaged at only one time point. The saline recovered was centrifuged at 150 g (5 min) to sediment the macrophage-rich fraction, leaving the surfactant in the supernatant. The amounts and specific activity of cholesterol and cholesteryl ester were measured following isolation by high performance liquid chromatography of the free cholesterol and the hydrolyzed ester-derived cholesterol. There was a rapid fall in [3H]cholesterol in the surfactant fraction, accompanied by a reciprocal increase in [3H]cholesteryl ester. Likewise, there was a rapid increase in [3H]cholesteryl ester in the macrophage-rich fraction, while the level of free [3H]cholesterol in that fraction remained very low. These data are consistent with exogenous cholesterol being rapidly esterified in the alveolus, and the ester then being cleared by the macrophages. The influence of a sulfuric acid anodic coating process on the fatigue crack nucleation behavior of 7075-T73 aluminum alloy was investigated. Silicone surface replication in combination with carbon sputter coating and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) allowed for in situ monitoring of the number of cycles for crack nucleation. A single edge circular notch (SECN) coupon was designed for the present study to localize fatigue damage thus enhancing fatigue crack detection and capture the effects of multiaxial stress conditions indicative of a majority engineering applications. Linear elastic finite element modeling of the SECN coupon was performed to quantify the von Mises equivalent stress distribution and the stress concentration factor of the notched region. The experimental results indicate that the presence of localized pitting corrosion initiated during the anodic coating pretreatment process had an adverse effect on fatigue performance. Specifically, multiple crack nucleation sites were evident as opposed to a single crack origin for the untreated specimens. Post-cycling SEM surface examinations displayed networks of micro-cracks in the anodic coating emanating from the pits although these were not found to be fatigue crack origin sites during post SEM fractographic exams. Thus, the stress concentration effect of the corrosion pits was found to be predominant. The total cycles to failure on average was reduced by approximately 60% for the anodic coated versus untreated specimens. A strategy is also discussed on how to mitigate accelerated crack nucleation by controlled surface pretreatment and use of a chromated chemical conversion coating in lieu of an anodic coating for selective applications.  相似文献

Pure Cu was processed by ECAP at five different temperatures from room temperature (RT) to 523 K. The influence of pressing temperature on microstructure evolution and tensile behavior was investigated in detail. The results show that as the ECAP temperature is increased the grain size and ductility both increase whereas the dislocation density and yield strength decrease. In the case of ECAP processing in the range of RT to 473 K the mechanism governing microstructural refinement is continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX), whereas at 523 K the mechanism changes to discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX). At higher ECAP temperatures, the kinetics of CDRX are retarded leading to a lower fraction of equiaxed grains/high‐angle grain boundaries and a higher fraction of dislocation cell structures. At 523 K, DDRX induces a high fraction of equiaxed grains with a very low dislocation density which appears responsible for the observed high tensile ductility. The sample processed at 523 K possessed a good combination of strength and ductility, suggesting that processing by ECAP at elevated temperatures may be a suitable alternative to RT ECAP processing followed by subsequent annealing.  相似文献
