Structural changes in the surface layers of an EK79-ID alloy upon hardening treatments

Experimental data showing variation of the mechanical properties of the surface layer of a nickel-based EK79-ID alloy depending on the degree of surface straining are presented. The elastic modulus and the proof stress of the surface layer exhibit nonmonotonic variation with the degree of straining. The possible mechanisms determining changes in the elastic modulus in the course of the surface structure variation caused by the strain hardening are considered.     

Efficiency of Depositing Glass Enamels by Electrophoresis

The factors affecting the efficiency of depositing glass enamel by electrophoresis is considered. It is established that the densest and most uniform coating are obtained on steel samples with preliminary deposited nickel. An optimum composition of slip is obtained and the conditions of depositing glass coating by electrophoresis is determined.     

Calculating the hardening factor in GTE ball-hardened components in an ultrasonic field

We present results from research into the fatigue strength of GTE specimens and blades, ball hardened in an ultrasonic field. Using the theory of similarity and dimensional analysis we derive a model for the hardening factor which allows us to select efficient regimes and to refine the calculation of the strength reserve in the production design stage.Translated from Problemy Prochnosti, No. 8, pp. 78–81, August, 1991.     

Plasma Synthesis of Thin Copper Silicide Films on Single-Crystal Silicon

Thin copper silicide films were produced on single-crystal silicon by plasma synthesis via liquid-phase magnetron sputtering. The interaction of high-energy Cu ions with the negatively biased substrate was shown to play a key role in the synthesis of copper silicides. The effects of the deposition time and copper ion energy on the structure, phase composition, and electrical properties of the resulting films were studied.
