The optical layer of a network is the energy-efficient technology to provision high bandwidths for data transport. Unfortunately, occasional electronic processing is unavoidable in current networks. This process is much more energy-consuming than the optical transport. Recent research has already yielded great improvements in terms of energy efficiency. It is, however, observed that increased energy efficiency typically leads to higher overall energy consumption. Therefore, it is imperative to reduce the environmental impact by additional means: maximizing the use of renewable energy. We present an approach to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-reducing grooming by considering the heterogeneous distribution of fossil and renewable energy sources. We analyze various two-step solutions for the route calculation and lightpath provisioning problem in IP-over-WDM mesh networks. We show that it is possible to reduce GHG emissions at a stable level of energy consumption and improved blocking performance compared to previous energy-efficient solutions.  相似文献

The high degree of clinical routine in percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) with and without stenting has not changed the fact that a large number of coronary heart disease patients are still affected by post-operative complications such as restenosis and thrombosis. Because re-endothelialization is the crucial aspect of wound healing after cardiovascular implant surgery, there is a need for modern biomaterials to aid endothelial cells in their adhesion and functional recovery post-stenting. This study systematically examines the potential of numerous chemical polymer modifications with regard to endothelialization. Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and its chemically activated forms are investigated in detail, as well as the impact of polymer surface morphology and precoating with matrix protein. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) are used to characterize endothelial cell responses in terms of in vitro viability and adhesion. As a potential component in drug eluting implants, VEGF is applied as stimulus to boost endothelial cell proliferation on the polymer. In conclusion, plasma chemical activation of PCL combined with VEGF stimulation best enhances in vitro endothelialization. Examining the impact of morphological, chemical and biological modifications of PCL, this study makes an important new contribution towards the existing body of work on polymer endothelialization.  相似文献

We present two new bounds for the eigenvalues of the solutions to a class of continuous- and discrete-time Lyapunov equations. These bounds hold for Lyapunov equations with symmetric coefficient matrices and right-hand side matrices of low rank. We have loaded spin-polarized hydrogen (SPH) into a magnetostatic Ioffe trap with central fields as high as 1 T and at two different temperatures, 0.25 and 0.4 K, on the way to create a gas of SPH with two distinguishable Bose component. We have measured the magnetic dipole decay rate constant of SPH at these high fields and found good agreement with theory. A measurement technique that allows determination of the absolute number of atoms was developed.  相似文献

A time-of-flight camera can help a service robot to sense its 3D environment. In this paper, we introduce our methods for sensor calibration and 3D data segmentation to use it to automatically plan grasps and manipulation actions for a service robot. Impedance control is intensively used to further compensate the modeling error and to apply the computed forces. The methods are further demonstrated in three service robotic applications. Sensor-based motion planning allows the robot to move within dynamic and cluttered environment without collision. Unknown objects can be detected and grasped. In the autonomous ice cream serving scenario, the robot captures the surface of ice cream and plans a manipulation trajectory to scoop a portion of ice cream.  相似文献

Multiresolution shape representation is a very effective way to decompose surface geometry into several levels of detail. Geometric modeling with such representations enables flexible modifications of the global shape while preserving the detail information. Many schemes for modeling with multiresolution decompositions based on splines, polygonal meshes and subdivision surfaces have been proposed recently. In this paper we modify the classical concept of multiresolution representation by no longer requiring a global hierarchical structure that links the different levels of detail. Instead we represent the detail information implicitly by the geometric difference between independent meshes. The detail function is evaluated by shooting rays in normal direction from one surface to the other without assuming a consistent tesselation. In the context of multiresolution shape deformation, we propose a dynamic mesh representation which adapts the connectivity during the modification in order to maintain a prescribed mesh quality. Combining the two techniques leads to an efficient mechanism which enables extreme deformations of the global shape while preventing the mesh from degenerating. During the deformation, the detail is reconstructed in a natural and robust way. The key to the intuitive detail preservation is a transformation map which associates points on the original and the modified geometry with minimum distortion. We show several examples which demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our approach including the editing of multiresolution models and models with texture.  相似文献
