In this study, the metastable and stable solid liquid phase transformations of the hypereutectic alloys Al-20Si-5Fe-2Ni (wt%) and Al-17Si-5Fe-3.5Cu-1.1Mg-0.6Zr in as-atomised powder and in as-hot-forged material have been investigated. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measurements at high temperatures have been performed. The resultant products have been thoroughly analysed using Light Optical Microscopy (LOM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) microanalysis. During solidification large Si, (Al4FeSi2), FeNiAl9, Al7Cu2Fe and Q(Cu2Mg8Si6Al5) are formed. A cooling rate of 5 °C/min and 1 °C/min is too high for the formation of the equilibrium phases (Al5FeSi) and Al7Cu2Fe. The understanding of the sequence of transformations is useful in order to define appropriate processing parameters for these alloys produced by powder metallurgy. The temperature at which the first liquid phase appears during heating at 5 °C/min is 559 °C for the Al-Si-Fe-Ni powder and 506 °C for the Al-Si-Fe-Cu-Mg-Zr powder. 相似文献

Retinoid signalling plays an important role in embryonic pattern formation. Excess of retinoic acid during gastrulation results in axial defects in vertebrate embryos, suggesting that retinoids are involved in early anteroposterior patterning. To study retinoid signalling in zebrafish embryos, we developed a novel method to detect endogenous retinoids in situ in embryos, using a fusion protein of the ligand inducible transactivation domain of a retinoic acid receptor and a heterologous DNA binding domain. Using this method, we show that retinoid signalling is localized in zebrafish embryos in the region of the embryonic shield, and towards the end of gastrulation in a posterior dorsal domain. To investigate the relationships between the spatial distribution of retinoid signalling and the regulation of retinoid target genes, we studied the downregulation by retinoic acid of two genes expressed in anterior regions of the embryo, goosecoid and otx1. These experiments show that expression of both genes is strongly downregulated in the anterior neurectoderm of zebrafish embryos treated with retinoic acid, whereas mesendodermal expression is only mildly affected. Interestingly, a significant downregulation of goosecoid expression by retinoic acid was observed only during midgastrulation but not in earlier stages. In agreement with these results, spatial expression of goosecoid and otx1 does not overlap with the region of retinoid signalling in the late gastrula. Our data support the hypothesis that a localized retinoid signal is involved in axial patterning during early development, at least in part through the repression of anterior genes in posterior regions of the embryo. Debonding of polymer–metal interfaces often involves both interfacial and cohesive failure. This paper extends the investigation of Yao and Qu presented in [Yao Q, Qu J. Interfacial versus cohesive failure on polymer–metal interfaces in electronic packaging – effects of interface roughness. J Electr Packag 2002;124;127–34] towards a numerical fracture mechanics model that is used to quantitatively predict the relation between cohesive and adhesive failure on a metal–polymer interface. As example, an epoxy–aluminum interface is investigated. The competition between adhesive and cohesive failure depending on surface roughness parameters will be studied. The paper presents the evaluation of the current HVAC components and indoor climate of a high tech Naval Depot when the system fails. The methodology of the research was: first, implementation of the heat, air & moisture models of the building and HVAC components. Second, validation of the models using measured data from the existing building control system. Third, simulation of the current and new HVAC systems designs. Fourth, discussion of the usability of the approach. For this specific case, we concluded that the current system design performs well if, in case of a fault, the air supply to the depots is switched off automatically. The construction of the depots has sufficient thermal inertia to maintain a stable indoor climate for a period long enough to allow it to be repaired. The design could be further improved by controlling the indoor climate surrounding the depots instead of inside the depots itself. In such a case, even if the system did not detect a fault and continued supplying uncontrolled air to the surroundings of the depot, the indoor climate in the depot would remain stable. We conclude that the approach presented in this paper has a wider application than this single case study. 相似文献

We used Great Lakes hydrologic data and bird monitoring data from the Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring Program from 1995–2002 to: 1) evaluate trends and patterns of annual change in May-July water levels for Lakes Ontario, Erie, and Huron-Michigan, 2) report on trends of relative abundance for birds breeding in Great Lakes coastal marshes, and 3) correlate basin-wide and lake-specific annual indices of bird abundance with Great Lakes water levels. From 1995–2002, average May, June, and July water levels in all lake basins showed some annual variation, but Lakes Erie and Huron-Michigan had identical annual fluctuation patterns and general water level declines. No trend was observed in Lake Ontario water levels over this period. Abundance for five of seven marsh birds in Lake Ontario wetlands showed no temporal trends, whereas abundance of black tern (Chlidonias niger) declined and that of swamp sparrow (Melospiza georgiana) increased from 1995–2002. In contrast, abundances of American coot (Fulica americana), black tern, common moorhen (Gallinula chloropus), least bittern (Ixobrychus exilis), marsh wren (Cistorthorus palustris), pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps), sora (Porzana carolina), swamp sparrow, and Virginia rail (Rallus limicola) declined within marshes at Lakes Erie and Huron/Michigan from 1995–2002. Annual abundances of several birds we examined showed positive correlations with annual lake level changes in non-regulated Lakes Erie and Huron/Michigan, whereas most birds we examined in Lake Ontario coastal wetlands were not correlated with suppressed water level changes of this lake. Overall, our results suggest that long-term changes and annual water level fluctuations are important abiotic factors affecting abundance of some marsh-dependent birds in Great Lakes coastal marshes. For this reason, wetland bird population monitoring initiatives should consider using methods in sampling protocols, or during data analyses, to account for temporal and spatial components of hydrologic variability that affect wetlands and their avifauna. 相似文献

Ciguatoxins (CTXs) and brevetoxins (PbTxs) modify the activation and inactivation processes of voltage-sensitive sodium channels (VSSC). In this study, the specific binding to rat brain synaptosomes of two commercial PbTxs, five purified CTXs and their derivatives was evaluated in competition with various concentrations of radiolabelled brevetoxin ([3H]PbTx-3). The results indicate that all CTXs bind specifically and with high affinity to sodium channels. Statistical analysis of the calculated inhibition constants identified two classes of toxins: the PbTxs and the less polar CTXs, and a group of CTXs of very high affinity. Relatively small chemical differences between the CTXs gave rise to significant differences in their affinity to the rat brain sodium channels. Cytotoxic effects associated with sodium channel activation were evaluated for the two classes of toxins on murine neuroblastoma cells, and their acute toxicity was determined in mice. CTXs have shown high affinities to VSSC of rat brain membranes and strong cytotoxic effects on neuroblastoma cells which correlate with their very low LD50 in mice. For PbTxs, it is different. Although binding with high affinity to VSSC and giving rise to significant cytotoxic effects, they are known to be poorly toxic intraperitoneally to mice. Furthermore, within the CTXs family, even though the most toxic compound (CTX-1B) has the highest affinity and the less toxic one (CTX-4B) the lowest affinity, a detailed analysis of the data pointed out a complex situation: (i) high affinity and toxicity seem to be related to the hydroxylation of the molecule on the A-ring rather than to the backbone type, (ii) acute toxicity in mice does not follow exactly the sodium-dependent cytotoxicity on neuroblastoma cells. These data suggest that the high toxicity of CTXs is related to sodium-dependent disturbances of the excitable membranes but might also involve other cellular mechanisms. 相似文献
