Solid Solutions in the LnAlO3–CaTiO3 (Ln = Dy, Y, Lu) Systems

The phase equilibria in the LnAlO₃–CaTiO₃ (Ln = Dy, Y, Lu) systems are investigated and their phase diagrams are constructed for the first time. The thermal stability of the prepared solid solutions with a perovskite structure is studied.     

Elastic, anelastic, and piezoelectric coefficients of langasite: resonance ultrasound spectroscopy with laser-Doppler interferometry

This paper presents advanced techniques to determine all independent elastic-stiffness coefficients C/sub ij/, the associated internal friction Q/sub ij//sup -1/, and piezoelectric coefficients e/sub ij/ of monocrystal langasite (La/sub 3/Ga/sub 5/SiO/sub 14/) using a single rectangular parallelepiped specimen. Langasite's crystal structure belongs to the trigonal system with point group 32, and thus possesses six independent C/sub ij/, two e/sub ij/, and two dielectric coefficients /spl epsiv//sub ij/. All of the elastic and piezoelectric coefficients affect the mechanical resonance frequencies of the solid specimen, and measuring them very accurately permits one to determine the C/sub ij/ and e/sub ij/ with known density, dimensions, and e/sub ij/. We developed a piezoelectric tripod to support the specimen upward and measured the free-vibration resonance frequencies with minimum load from its own weight. This weak and stable acoustic coupling ensures accuracy of the frequency measurement better than 10/sup -5/, enough to determine the coefficients reliably. Our C/sub ij/ fall in the range of results measured with previous (conventional) methods. Our e/sub 11/ is smaller than the reported values by 1.2-13%, and e/sub 14/ is larger by 44-97%. For the internal friction measurement, we used a solenoid coil to vibrate the specimen without any contact. The longitudinal-wave internal friction considerably exceeds the shear-wave internal friction, which can be explained by phonon-phonon interactions.     

Dynamics Modelling of Hexaslides using the Decoupled Natural Orthogonal Complement Matrices

In this paper, dynamic model of a class of parallel systems, namely, the hexaslides, is proposed. The model developed is based on the concept the decoupled natural orthogonal complement (DeNOC) matrices, introduced elsewhere. The dynamic model of hexslides, though complex due to the existence of multi-loop kinematic chains, is required for actuator power estimation, computed-torque control, optimum tool trajectory generation, etc. The use of DeNOC offers many physical interpretations, recursive algorithms, and parallel computations. Using the proposed dynamic model, a parallel inverse dynamics algorithm has been presented to compute the actuator forces. This is useful to choose suitable motors for an application. An illustration is provided using an existing machine tool based on hexaslides, namely, the HexaM, while it is carrying out a circular contouring. Secondly, the effect of leg and slider inertias is also studied, which clearly suggests that neither of these can be neglected while finding the actuator forces.

Durch eine optimal organisierte Probenahme bereits vor der Ernte und Analytik innerhalb von zwei Tagen waren nicht vermarktungsf?hige Partien rechtzeitig zu erkennen. Die Nutzung der Analysenergebnisse als Beratungsinstrument durch Markt, Erzeuger und Beratung haben zu diesem Erfolg geführt.     

Dual-purpose technologies in view of diversification of the military-industrial complex of Russia

Current problems in scientific-information support of the process of diversification of the military-industrial complex (or defense-industrial complex, DIC) of Russia are considered, which can facilitate the effective usage of dual-purpose technologies in various civilian fields of the national economy. In this context, the program of the 7th Specialized Exhibition “Dual-Purpose Products and Technologies: DIC Diversification,” which was held in Moscow in October 2006, is analyzed.

The rôle of saponins in the undesirable sensory properties of the dried pea P sativum is reported. The sensory properties of isolated soyasaponin I are defined and described as bitter, astringent and metallic. The distribution of saponin in various air-classified pea flour fractions shows that the protein-rich fraction may contain sufficient saponin to cause undesirable tastes.
