New antioxidants, cassumunarins A, B, and C, were isolated from the rhizomes ofZingiber cassumunar, and the structures were determined by spectroscopic methods to be complex curcuminoids. The antixidant efficiency of cassumunarins was determined by inhibitory activity of autoxidation of linoleic acid in a buffer-ethanol system. The anti-inflammatory effect was measured by inhibition of edema formation on mouse ear induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate. Both types of activities were stronger for the cassumunarins than for the curcumin. Visiting scholar at University of Texas (October 1992–September 1993).  相似文献

A novel plaque boundary extraction method for an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) image employing image separability and Takagi-Sugeno's fuzzy inference model is presented. The membership functions are allocated heuristically with special consideration of the features of the IVUS image. The method has not only improved the accuracy of plaque boundary extraction but has also reduced the workload of medical doctors.  相似文献

Into neutral : We demonstrate the unique features of a pH click peptide based on an O‐acyl isopeptide method. Under acidic conditions, the click peptide remains in a monomeric form. Upon increase of the pH to 7.4, the click peptide is quickly able to convert into Aβ1–42 through an O‐to‐N intramolecular acyl migration. Further study using this pH click peptide would elucidate the pathological role of Aβ1–42 in Alzheimer's disease.

During the geological disposal of high-level waste, the nuclear glass is expected to be first hydrated in water vapor prior to liquid alteration. In the present work, we investigated the vapor hydration of the International simple glass (ISG) at 175°C and different relative humidities (60%, 80% and 98%). The glass hydration was investigated by nuclear reaction analysis (NRA) and Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy. The chemical and mineralogical compositions of the alteration products were studied using scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and μ-Raman spectroscopy, respectively. The NRA results gave water diffusion coefficients of 2.31–7.34 × 10−21 m2/s, in good agreement with the literature data on borosilicate glasses altered in aqueous media. The glass hydration increased with relative humidity percentage and the SEM-EDS analysis showed a slight enrichment in Si and loss of Na in the hydrated glass layer compared with the pristine glass. The hydration rate of the ISG glass was little higher than that of the French SON68 glass hydrated using water vapor. The corrosion products were analcime, tobermorite, and calcite, which were typical of the SON68 glass hydrated in similar conditions.  相似文献

Rapidly dried onion (Allium cepa L. cv. Momiji No. 3) powder (OP) prepared from the outer layers (from second to fourth scale leaves from the surface) of onion bulbs was analysed for its quercetin and polyuronide contents, the effects of enzymatic treatment and the anti-atherogenic effect on rats fed a high-fat diet. Quercetin 4′-glucoside (50%), free quercetin (30%) and quercetin 3,4′-diglucoside (20%) were identified as quercetin derivatives, and boiling-water extraction was effective in extracting these compounds. OP contained 12.9% of polyuronides, the basic skeleton of pectin. Enzymatic degradation (cellulase and pectinase, 50 °C for 12 h, pH 6.0) of OP was effective in obtaining a slurry of smaller particle sizes. The free quercetin increased and the glucosides decreased with enzyme treatment. In Wistar rats fed an OP-added high-fat diet, the total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were not significantly different from the rats fed a high-fat diet without OP. However, the atherogenic index (AI) of Wistar rats fed an OP-added high-fat diet was lower (AI = 3.3) than rats fed the diet without OP (AI = 4.1). The incremental elastic modulus (IEM) of the aorta from rats fed the OP-added diet was also significantly lower than that of the rats fed the diet without OP. The AI and IEM values of the rats fed the OP-added diet were quite similar to the values of rats fed the diet without OP but were allowed spontaneous exercise. These results suggest that OP intake is effective for decreasing the risk of arteriosclerosis.  相似文献

A continuous‐flow reaction system was developed, allowing flow conditions of the entire system to be maintained at a predetermined constant level, which is one of the most significant factors for successful industrial application. Controlled/living anionic polymerization was selected as a model reaction since the characteristics of its polymer products, molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions are highly susceptible to changes in the relative flow rates of a monomer and initiator solutions. In flow microreactors, controlled/living anionic polymerization of styrene in tetrahydrofuran (THF)/hexane initiated by THF‐diluted n‐butyllithium (n‐BuLi) was examined. Poly(styrenes) of larger molecule sizes such as Mn > 15 000 were successfully synthesized. After continuous operation for four hours, ca. 0.5 kg of the polymer was readily produced with narrow molecular weight distribution, demonstrating the applicability of this continuous‐flow system for controlled/living anionic polymerization on considerably large scale with a view to its industrial usage in the future.  相似文献

To develop force measurements using an atomic force microscope (AFM) in a quantitative manner, it is necessary to estimate the number density of target molecules on a sample surface, and for this, the sensitivity of detection should be known. In this study, the AFM was used as a mechanical detector and an antigen and its antibody were used as a model to evaluate the sensitivity of detection. Antigens were immobilized on a glass surface and number density was estimated by monitoring optical absorbance due to product formation by the reaction of crosslinkers. The concentration of antigen was controlled by mixing control peptides. A microbead was used as a probe and antibodies were immobilized on the bead. AFM force measurements were then made for a range of number densities in the order of 10–106 antigen molecules per square micrometer of surface and were compared to evaluate the sensitivity of detection. Our result establishes the reliability of estimating a number of molecules like receptors on the cell surface, and indicates that the AFM is useful as a mechanical detector with high sensitivity.  相似文献

Asymmetric localizations of cellular proteins and mRNAs are important for cell functions such as division, differentiation and development. The localization of specific mRNA generates cell polarity by controlling the translation sites of specific proteins and thereby restricting their locations to appropriate cellular regions. We have previously reported a novel method based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) for examining gene expression in a single living cell without killing or destroying it. An AFM tip was inserted into a living cell to extract mRNAs, which were analyzed after multiplication by RT-PCR and quantitative PCR. By applying this method, in this study we performed quantitative measurement of mRNA at different loci within individual living cells.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an attractive technology to produce complex structures without the need for expensive tools and molds. Additives are usually incorporated with the plastic materials used in 3D printing to increase their strength and rigidity. In particular, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) shows promise as a material for use in 3D printing. However, the strength of CFRP after printing is still unclear, although it is known that its strength is affected by the plastic melting during printing. In this study, we analyzed the fracture behavior of CFRP specimens before and after bending to different curvature radii. From the experimental results, a fracture criterion that described the behavior of the materials by considering tensile and compressive loads was developed. The fracture mechanism was the same for CFRP specimens with different curvature radii. These results increase our understanding of the mechanical properties of CFRP materials used in 3D printing.  相似文献
