Surface tailoring of an ethylene propylene diene elastomeric terpolymer via plasma‐polymerized coating of tetramethyldisiloxane

In the research presented here, we explore the use of a low‐energy plasma to deposit thin silicone polymer films using tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDSO) (H(CH₃)₂? Si? O? Si? (CH₃)₂H) on the surface of an ethylene propylene diene elastomeric terpolymer (EPDM) in order to enhance the surface hydrophobicity, lower the surface energy and improve the degradation/wear characteristics. The processing conditions were varied over a wide range of treatment times and discharge powers to control the physical characteristics, thickness, morphology and chemical structure of the plasma polymer films. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that pore‐free homogeneous plasma polymer thin films of granular microstructure composed of small grains are formed and that the morphology of the granular structure depends on the plasma processing conditions, such as plasma power and time of deposition. The thicknesses of the coatings were determined using SEM, which confirmed that the thicknesses of the deposited plasma‐polymer films could be precisely controlled by the plasma parameters. The kinetics of plasma‐polymer film deposition were also evaluated. Contact angle measurements of different solvent droplets on the coatings were used to calculate the surface energies of the coatings. These coatings appeared to be hydrophobic and had low surface energies. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoacoustic Fourier‐transform infrared (PA‐FT‐IR) spectroscopy were used to investigate the detailed chemical structures of the deposited films. The optimum plasma processing conditions to achieve the desired thin plasma polymer coatings are discussed in the light of the chemistry that takes place at the interfaces. 利用低轨卫星星座的移动通信系统

本文介绍两种利用低轨地理卫星星座进行移动通信的系统。一种是英法联合研究提出的利用24颗低轨卫星组成的移动通信；另一种是美国研究提出的利用192颗低轨卫星组成的移动通信系统。最后将低轨卫星移动通信系统与同步卫星移动通信系统及高轨卫星移动通信系统进行了比较。     

全国土壤中天然放射性核素含量调查研究（1983—1990年）

中国土壤中天然放射性核素含量调查(1983—1990年)是中国环境天然放射性水平调查研究的一部分。本文作为分报告之一,系根据全国29个省、市、自治区(不包括台湾省,海南省包括在广东省内)的调查结果整理编写而成,主要报告这项调查的方法和结果。本调查在全国按均匀网格布点,并区分不同成土母岩母质、土壤类型进行加密布点,在天然γ辐射剂量率局部异常地区以及部分核企业和放射性伴生矿等对环境可能产生放射性污染的地区,也作了加密布点。本调查布点区域复盖面积约占全国总面积的80%。采样点基本与陆地γ辐射剂量率测点同位布设,土壤采样与陆地γ辐射剂量率测量同步进行。全国共采集土壤样品13866份;分析测量了11216份,其中网格点样品9114个,加密点样品2102个。本报告主要结果由7777个25×25和50×50 km 的基本网格点分析数据统计得到。本调查主要结果如下:(1)全国土壤中天然放射性核素~(238)U、~(226)Ra、~(232)Th、~(40)K 含量按面积加权平均值(±单次测量标准差)分别为39.5(±34.4)、36.5(±22.0)、49.1(±27.6)、580.0(±202.0)Bq·kg~(-1),范围值分别为1.8—520.0、2.4—425.8、1.0—437.8、11.5—2185.2 Bq·kg~(-1)。(2)土壤中天然放射性核素含量与成土母岩母质类型明显相关。由1552个不同成土母岩

Towards a Dual-Tip STM Application in Mesoscopic Electron Transport

A new design for a dual-tip scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is presented. The design is a variation on the mechanically controllable break-junction with two electron beam-induced deposition nano-tips. The new design enables one to scan surfaces simultaneously with two probes having a nano-gap separation. By collecting the lateral current flowing between the tips, the transconductance map can then be compared with the STM images for local characterizations of the electron transport. Since the lateral beam carries the property of the density of states of the surface at momentum space, the dispersion of the electronic structure should give an orientation and position dependence of the local transconductance current. In addition, the reduced terminal separation, on the order of the characteristic mesoscopic length scales, is likely to be sensitive to a variety of typically observed interactions and interference effects.     

Balance-dendrogram. A new routine of CoDaPack

A statistical analysis of compositional data based on the Aitchison geometry of the simplex requires an appropriate basis for representing the data. A simple and intuitive way of building such a basis employs a sequential binary partition of the compositional vector. The partition, together with some statistical summaries of the coordinates, or balances, can be represented in a dendrogram-type graph. In this paper we introduce an implementation of this methodology inside CoDaPack, which is freeware. An example with real data illustrates the use of the Balance-Dendrogram routine.     

Intraocular concentrations of chemotherapeutic agents after systemic or local administration

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the concentrations of carboplatin and etoposide achieved in the aqueous and vitreous humors after intravenous infusion in nonhuman primates, and to investigate whether local administration of carboplatin might result in higher concentrations in the vitreous humor. METHODS: Macaca fascicularis primates were treated with 1 of 3 regimens: (1) intravenous carboplatin (18.7 mg/kg), etoposide (5 mg/kg), and vincristine sulfate (0.05 mg/kg), (2) peribulbar carboplatin (10 mg/mL), or (3) episcleral balloon carboplatin (10 mg/mL). Concentrations of chemotherapeutic agents were measured in the plasma and in the aqueous and vitreous humors. RESULTS: No measurable amount of etoposide was detected in the aqueous or vitreous humor after intravenous administration. Mean measured peak vitreous concentration of carboplatin after intravenous administration was 0.31 microg/mL, which was 1% of the peak plasma value. Mean measured peak vitreous concentrations of carboplatin after peribulbar or episcleral balloon administration were 2.38 microg/mL and 2.95 microg/mL, respectively, which represent 7.68- and 9.52-fold increases over the concentration achieved after intravenous administration. No serious toxic effect was observed in any animal. CONCLUSIONS: Peribulbar and episcleral balloon administration of carboplatin seemed to be safe and resulted in higher vitreous concentrations than intravenous administration in this model. These results suggest that these alternate routes of delivery should be explored in children with vitreous seeding of retinoblastoma.
