In the present study, the production of a reduced-sugar pomegranate juice jelly supplemented with an aqueous extract of pomegranate peel (PE) is described. Influence of different carbohydrate polymers (guar (G), xanthan (X) and tragacanth (T) gums) on rheological properties was studied. Combination GXT presented the most similar rheological behaviour to commercial jelly. Jelly (J) and jelly with PE (JE) were stored at 4 °C over an 8 week period for physical, chemical, antioxidant, microbiological and sensory analysis. J and JE showed similar values for °Brix, colour and Aw, though the pH of JE was lower than J. Thiol and phenolic compounds were higher in JE than in J. Antioxidant activity (radical scavenging activity and autoxidation of linoleic acid) was higher in JE than in J at 0 weeks, and were decreasing with time. Pomegranate juice with additives was generally less accepted than J and JE.  相似文献

We have grown and characterized BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (BZT) epitaxial thin films deposited on (001) and (111)-oriented SrRuO3-buffered SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Structural and morphological characterizations were performed using X-ray diffractometry and atomic force microscopy, respectively. A cube-on-cube epitaxial relationship was ascertained from the θ-2θ and φ diffractograms in both (001) and (111)-oriented films. The (001)-oriented films showed a smooth granular morphology, whereas the faceted pyramid-like crystallites of the (111)-oriented films led to a rough surface. The dielectric response of BZT at room temperature was measured along the growth direction. The films were found to be ferroelectric, although a well-saturated hysteresis loop was obtained only for the (001)-oriented films. High leakage currents were observed for the (111) orientation, likely associated to charge transport along the boundaries of its crystallites. The remanent polarization, coercive field, dielectric constant, and relative change of dielectric permittivity (tunability) of (111)-oriented BZT were higher than those of (001)-oriented BZT.  相似文献

日本理化学研究所地震防灾研究中心与加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学的研究人员合作,共同开发和进一步发展了用于研究结构物地震反应的三维分析模型,并采用该模型编制了计算机程序,用于模拟结构物的地震反应,研究地震破坏机理.运用该分析模型的建模方法和对一设有地震仪的钢筋混凝土框架建筑物进行了分析.通过将分析结果与该建筑物在1994年Northridge地震中的记录和损伤情况进行比较,验证了作者所开发的三维分析模型和计算机程序的可靠性.  相似文献

Pitch-bonded graphites are among the best known thermal insulators at sub-kelvin temperatures, but are very good conductors at higher temperatures. This makes them ideal for mechanical supports which must provide good thermal isolation at an operating temperature below 1 K, but must have good conductance at higher temperatures to aid in initially cooling down an instrument (a “passive heat switch”). One type of graphite, AGOT, has been known as having the lowest thermal conductivity below 1 K not only among graphites, but also compared with any other material. It is, however, no longer available. We have carried out thermal conductivity measurements at temperatures between 60 mK and 4 K on a proposed replacement, POCO AXM-5Q graphite, as well as a sample of AGOT graphite. Our measurements show that both graphites have a difference of about six orders of magnitude in conductivity between room temperature and 100 mK, but that AGOT graphite is not as good an insulator as previously believed. We conclude that AXM-5Q graphite is not only a suitable replacement for AGOT, but in fact is somewhat superior.  相似文献

The public has become increasingly interested in the welfare of food animals, but the food animal industries possess few mechanisms for public engagement. Here we present results from a web-based forum designed to allow stakeholders to share views on controversial issues in dairying. In response to the question “Should dairy calves be separated from the cow within the first few hours after birth?” participants were able to indicate “yes,” “no,” or “neutral” and either write a reason in support of their view or select reasons provided by other participants. Four independent groups of participants were recruited (a total of 163 people); 31% said they had no involvement in the dairy industry; the remaining 69% (with some involvement in the industry) were students or teachers (33%), animal advocates (13%), producers (11%), veterinarians (9%) and other dairy industry professionals (3%). Overall, little consensus existed among participants across groups; 44% chose “yes,” 48% “no,” and 9% “neutral.” Responses varied with demographics, with opposition to early separation higher among females, animal advocates, and those with no involvement with the dairy industry. A fifth group was recruited at a dairy industry conference (an additional 28 participants); 46% chose “yes,” 32% “no,” and 21% “neutral.” Across all 5 groups, opponents and supporters often referenced similar issues in the reasons they provided. Opponents of early separation contended that it is emotionally stressful for the calf and cow, it compromises calf and cow health, it is unnatural, and the industry can and should accommodate cow-calf pairs. In contrast, supporters of early separation reasoned that emotional distress is minimized by separating before bonds develop, that it promotes calf and cow health, and that the industry is limited in its ability to accommodate cow-calf pairs. These results illustrate the potential of web-based forums to identify areas of agreement and conflict among stakeholders, providing a basis for the development of practices that address shared concerns.  相似文献

Metric Access Methods (MAMs) are indexing techniques which allow working in generic metric spaces. Therefore, MAMs are specially useful for Content-Based Image Retrieval systems based on features which use non L p norms as similarity measures. MAMs naturally allow the design of image browsers due to their inherent hierarchical structure. The Hierarchical Cellular Tree (HCT), a MAM-based indexing technique, provides the starting point of our work. In this paper, we describe some limitations detected in the original formulation of the HCT and propose some modifications to both the index building and the search algorithm. First, the covering radius, which is defined as the distance from the representative to the furthest element in a node, may not cover all the elements belonging to the node’s subtree. Therefore, we propose to redefine the covering radius as the distance from the representative to the furthest element in the node’s subtree. This new definition is essential to guarantee a correct construction of the HCT. Second, the proposed Progressive Query retrieval scheme can be redesigned to perform the nearest neighbor operation in a more efficient way. We propose a new retrieval scheme which takes advantage of the benefits of the search algorithm used in the index building. Furthermore, while the evaluation of the HCT in the original work was only subjective, we propose an objective evaluation based on two aspects which are crucial in any approximate search algorithm: the retrieval time and the retrieval accuracy. Finally, we illustrate the usefulness of the proposal by presenting some actual applications.  相似文献

This review will discuss, under the Circular Economy and Biorefinery concepts, the performance of the alternative solvents in the downstream process to recover natural pigments in a more sustainable way. Conventionally, pigments marketed on an industrial scale are produced through chemical synthesis by using petroleum derivatives as the main raw material. Also, the current production chain of the synthetic dyes is linear, with no solvent recycling and waste generation. Thus, the most promising processes of extraction and purification of natural pigments and strategies on the polishing of the solvents are here reviewed. In this review, the use of alternative solvents, namely, ionic liquids, eutectic solvents, aqueous solutions of surfactants, and edible oils, for recovering natural pigments was reviewed. Works discussing higher extraction yields and selectivity, while maintaining the stability of the target pigments, were reported. Also, a panorama between Sustainability and Circular Economy prospection was discussed for better comprehension of the main advances in the field. Behind the analysis of the works published so far on the theme, the most important lacunas to overcome in the next years on the field were pointed out and discussed. Also, the future trends and new perspectives to achieve the economic viability and sustainability of the processes using alternative solvents will be scrutinized.  相似文献

Delay in coping with overdue technological change is considered one of the primary causes of the present African crisis. Full African recovery appears contingent upon the design and implementation of policies and plans to anticipate, supply and manage technological necessities. Although there is some understanding of the deficiencies in science and technology supplies, not much has been done to stimulate local demand, which appears crucial to the installation of practical—and, consequently, adequately supported—science and technology infrastructures. Excessive dependency on outside technological competence has impeded Africa's creativity and innovativeness, which are indispensable to rural progress, increased food production, and overall, self-sustained development. Curtailment of dependency necessitates the reduction of poverty, the increase of technological sagacity, and the growth of African collective self-reliance, which are difficult to achieve without independent scientific and technological decisions and purposeful guidance of technical change.  相似文献

We performed morphometric and ultrastructural studies to determine the morphological response of rat spinal ganglion sensory neurons to prolonged administration of cisplatin up to a total dose of 18 mg/kg. We quantitated the different types of lysosomal system (LS) bodies present (primary and secondary lysosomes, lipofuscin granules) as well as multivesicular bodies in treated and control animals. Five rats were examined per group. This ultrastructural study on cisplatin-induced changes in LS of spinal ganglia neurons shows that the total area and total number of LS structures are significantly increased by cisplatin treatment. The main specific changes were increase in number of small-size lysosomes and increase in number of polymeric lipofuscin granules. Other alterations observed were presence of nucleolar segregation, patches of neurofilaments and deposits of osmiophilic material in the perikaryon and axon hillock, all indicating that sensory neurons are a major target of cisplatin.  相似文献

Twelve multiparous Holstein cows were used to evaluate the capacity of a multielement compound consisting mainly of northupite and sylvite to alleviate low milk fat percent. Possible mechanisms of action were assessed. Cows were arranged in a 4 X 4 Latin square design replicated three times. Basal diet was 55% concentrate:45% forage fed ad libitum. Dietary treatments were control, NaHCO3 at 1% of diet DM, and multielement buffer at 1 and 3% of diet DM. Feed intake and milk production were similar for all treatments. Milk fat percentages for the four treatments were 2.97, 3.21, 3.43, and 3.67%, respectively. A shift toward a higher molar percent of ruminal acetate and a lower molar percent of valerate appeared to coincide with changes in milk fat percentage. Milk protein percentage also was increased by supplemental multielement buffer. Ruminal fluid acidity was reduced by NaHCO3 and multielement buffer. Extent of in situ digestion of forage DM and cellulose was improved when cows consumed a buffering agent. Rate of corn silage digestion tended toward improvement. As mineral buffer was consumed, concentrations of Mg and K increased in ruminal fluid and blood. As dietary Na intake increased, ruminal and plasma Cl concentrations were depressed and plasma S and Ca were elevated.  相似文献
