Major limitation for use of epoxy thermosets in engineering applications is its sudden brittle failure. In the present study dipropylene glycol dibenzoate (DPGDB) based plasticizer is used to modify diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DEGEBA) based epoxy resin system via simple blending technique. Bio-based epoxidized linseed oil was also used to modify epoxy resin system and compared with DPGDB modified resin. For DPGDB modified resin storage modulus and loss modulus of the epoxy system modified with 10% plasticizer increased by 7.54% and 12.24%, respectively. The primary mechanism responsible for such behavior is improved crosslinking density. With 5% plasticizer loading, flexural strength increased by 21%. There was an improvement of 312.74% in strain at failure for 10% plasticizer loading, while preserving its mechanical strength. It was found that DPGDB based modification was better than epoxidized linseed oil modification.  相似文献

Bilirubin toxicity to the central nervous system (CNS) is responsible for severe and permanent neurologic damage, resulting in hearing loss, cognitive, and movement impairment. Timely and effective management of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia by phototherapy or exchange transfusion is crucial for avoiding permanent neurological consequences, but these therapies are not always possible, particularly in low-income countries. To explore alternative options, we investigated a pharmaceutical approach focused on protecting the CNS from pigment toxicity, independently from serum bilirubin level. To this goal, we tested the ability of curcumin, a nutraceutical already used with relevant results in animal models as well as in clinics in other diseases, in the Gunn rat, the spontaneous model of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Curcumin treatment fully abolished the landmark cerebellar hypoplasia of Gunn rat, restoring the histological features, and reverting the behavioral abnormalities present in the hyperbilirubinemic rat. The protection was mediated by a multi-target action on the main bilirubin-induced pathological mechanism ongoing CNS damage (inflammation, redox imbalance, and glutamate neurotoxicity). If confirmed by independent studies, the result suggests the potential of curcumin as an alternative/complementary approach to bilirubin-induced brain damage in the clinical scenario.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects of clove, cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric and pepper on the histamine production and histidine decarboxylase activity ofMorganella morganii (a potent histamine-producing bacteria in fish) was examined at 30°C using HPLC. Cinnamon and clove exhibited a significant (P<0.01) inhibitory effect, whereas turmeric and cardamom had a moderate effect. These spices were applied to whole mackerel at a level of 3% and their inhibitory effect on biogenic amine formation at 30°C was also examined. As in the in vitro study, clove and cinnamon showed a significant (P< 0.05) inhibitory effect on histamine, putrescine and tyramine formation but not on that of cadaverine. Cardamom and turmeric exhibited a moderate effect and pepper was ineffective. Therefore, clove and cinnamon are more helpful than cardamom and turmeric in the minimization of the formation of toxic histamine in mackerel.  相似文献

Quasi-static mixed mode stress fields for a crack in orthotropic inhomogeneous medium are developed using asymptotic analysis coupled with Westergaard stress function approach. In the problem formulation, the elastic constants E 11, E 22, G 12, ν 12 are replaced by an effective stiffness ${E=\sqrt {E_{11} E_{22}}}$ , a stiffness ratio ${\delta =\left({{E_{11}}\mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{E_{11}} {E_{22}}}}\right. \kern-0em} {E_{22}}} \right)}$ , an effective Poisson’s ratio ${\nu =\sqrt {\nu_{12}\nu _{21}} }$ and a shear parameter ${k=\left({E \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {E {2G_{12}}}}\right. \kern-0em} {2G_{12}}}\right)-\nu }$ . An assumption is made to vary the effective stiffness exponentially along one of the principal axes of orthotropy. The mode-mixity due to the crack orientation with respect to the property gradient is accommodated in the analysis through superposition of opening and shear modes. The expansion of stress fields consisting of the first four terms are derived to explicitly bring out the influence of nonhomogeneity on the structure of the mixed-mode stress field equations. Using the derived mixed-mode stress field equations, the isochromatic fringe contours are developed to understand the variation of stress field around the crack tip as a function of both orthotropic stiffness ratio and non-homogeneous coefficient.  相似文献

A composite material made of zinc oxide and polyvinyl alcohol was prepared by a sonochemical method. Annealing of the composite under air removed the polymer, leaving porous spheres of ZnO. This change was accompanied by a change of the surface area from 2 m2/g to 34 m2/g. The porous ZnO particles were used as the electrode material for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). It was tested by forming a film of the doped porous ZnO on a conductive glass support. The performance of the solar cell is reported.  相似文献

Sugar amino acid (SAA)‐based foldamers with well‐defined secondary structures were appended with N‐acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) sugars to access sequence‐defined, multidentate glycoconjugates with full control over number, spacing and position. Conformation analysis of these glycopeptides by extensive NMR spectroscopic studies revealed that the appended GalNAc units had a profound influence on the native conformational behaviour of the SAA foldamers. Whereas the 2,5‐cis glycoconjugate showed a helical structure in water, comprising of two consecutive 16‐membered hydrogen bonds, its 2,5‐trans congener displayed an unprecedented 16/10‐mixed turn structure not seen before in any glycopeptide foldamer.  相似文献

Since the structure of a material is a key factor influencing the extraction efficiency, any means to modify the structure to enhance extraction is attractive. As limited information is available on the effect of sample pretreatment prior to extraction on the extractability of a bioactive compound, the effects of selected pretreatment methods, i.e., soaking in citric acid, blanching in water as well as in citric acid, on the sample structure and subsequent microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) were investigated; carrots and β-carotene (as well as carotenoids) were selected as the test material and bioactive compound, respectively. A suitable condition to extract β-carotene in terms of the microwave power and extraction time was determined. Comparison between MAE and Soxhlet extraction was also made. At the optimized condition the contents of β-carotene and total carotenoids extractable from carrots blanched in water (29.74 and 58.04 mg/100 g dry basis) and in citric acid (32.08 and 61.62 mg/100 g dry basis) were significantly higher than those from the untreated carrots (23.26 and 51.79 mg/100 g dry basis). The antioxidant activities of the extracts obtained from carrots blanched in water and in citric acid were also higher than that from carrots with no pretreatment. Comparison between MAE and Soxhlet extraction revealed that the extract from MAE contained lower amounts of β-carotene and total carotenoids and exhibited lower antioxidant activity; the required MAE time was significantly shorter, however.  相似文献

The aggregation behaviour of two cationic surfactants, viz. cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and N-cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC), in different concentrations of water-soluble polyacrylamide has been studied in alkaline medium by electrical conductivity and surface tension measurements. A decrease in the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the surfactant with an increase in polymer content in the mixture was observed. The thermodynamic and surface parameters have been determined and discussed. The results indicate that micellisation becomes more favourable at higher polymer content.  相似文献

Egg white (albumen) is a rich source of protein and is widely used in confectionary industry for its wonderful foaming ability. Foam-mat freeze drying is one of the promising methods of drying, which tries to utilize the advantages of both freeze drying and foam-mat drying to produce better quality egg white powder. Preliminary experiments showed that the stability of foams made with egg white alone is not adequate for foam-mat freeze drying. Experiments were thus conducted using different stabilizers (methyl cellulose, propylene glycol alginate, and xanthan gum) to optimize foam stability. Bubble size distribution was determined using microscopy to understand foam structure. This article will discuss the effect of stabilizers on the stability of egg white foam and possible mechanisms involved. The results showed that xanthan gum at 0.125% provided sufficient stability for freeze drying.  相似文献
