Due to the loss of range information, projections as input data for a 3-D object recognition algorithm are expected to increase the computational complexity. In this work, however, we demonstrate that this deficiency carries potential for complexity reduction of major vision problems. We show that projections provide a reduction of feature dimensions, and lead to structures exhibiting simple combinatorial properties. The theoretical framework is embedded in a probabilistic setting which deals with uncertainties and variations of observed features. In statistics marginal densities and the assumption of independency prove to be the key tools when one encounters projections. The examples discussed in this paper include feature matching, pose estimation as well as classification of 3-D objects. The final experimental evaluation demonstrates the practical importance of the marginalization concept and independency assumptions. 相似文献

A phase noise cancellation technique and a charge pump linearization technique, both of which are insensitive to component errors, are presented and demonstrated as enabling components in a wideband CMOS delta-sigma fractional-N phase-locked loop (PLL). The PLL has a loop bandwidth of 460 kHz and is capable of 1-Mb/s in- loop FSK modulation at center frequencies of 2402 + k MHz for k = 0, 1, 2, ..., 78. For each frequency, measured results indicate that the peak spot phase noise reduction achieved by the phase noise cancellation technique is 16 dB or better, and the minimum suppression of fractional spurious tones achieved by the charge pump linearization technique is 8 dB or better. With both techniques enabled, the PLL achieves a worst-case phase noise of -121 dBc/Hz at 3-MHz offsets, and a worst-case in-band noise floor of -96 dBc/Hz. The PLL circuitry consumes 34.4 mA from 1.8-2.2-V supplies. The IC is realized in a 0.18-/spl mu/m mixed-signal CMOS process, and has a die size of 2.72 mm /spl times/ 2.47 mm. 相似文献

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a widely consumed food in the tropics that naturally contains cyanogenic glycosides (cyanogens, mainly composed of linamarin, acetone cyanohydrin, and hydrocyanic acid). If cassava is not adequately processed to reduce the level of cyanogens prior to consumption, these compounds can lead to the formation of hydrocyanic acid in the gut. Exposure to hydrocyanic acid can cause symptoms ranging from vomiting and abdominal pain to coma and death. In 2008, a survey of ready-to-eat (RTE) cassava-based snack foods was undertaken to determine levels of cyanogens measured as total hydrocyanic acid. This survey was undertaken in response to the New South Wales Food Authority being alerted to the detection of elevated levels of cyanogens in an RTE cassava-based snack food. This survey took 374 samples of RTE cassava chips available in the Australian marketplace. Significant variation in the levels of total hydrocyanic acid were observed in the 317 samples testing positive for cyanogens, with levels ranging from 13 to 165 mg of HCN equivalents per kg (mean value, 64.2 mg of HCN eq/kg for positive samples). The results from this survey serve as a timely warning for manufacturers of RTE cassava chips and other cassava-based snack foods to ensure there is tight control over the levels of cyanogens in the cassava ingredient. Evidence from this survey contributed to an amendment to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, which now prescribes a maximum level for hydrocyanic acid in RTE cassava chips of 10 mg of HCN eq/kg, which aligns with the Codex Alimentarius Commission international standard for edible cassava flour. 相似文献

HIV-2, compared to HIV-1, elicits potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies, and uses a broad range of co-receptors. However, both sensitivity to neutralization and breadth of co-receptor use varies between HIV-2 isolates, and the molecular background is still not fully understood. Thus, in the current study, we have deciphered relationships between HIV-2 neutralization sensitivity, co-receptor use and viral envelope glycoprotein (Env) molecular motifs. A panel of primary HIV-2 isolates, with predefined use of co-receptors, was assessed for neutralization sensitivity using a set of HIV-2 Env-directed monoclonal antibodies and co-receptor indicator cell lines. Neutralization sensitivity of the isolates was analysed in relation target cell co-receptor expression, in addition to amino acid motifs and predicted structures of Env regions. Results showed that HIV-2 isolates were more resistant to neutralizing antibodies when entering target cells via the alternative co-receptor GPR15, as compared to CCR5. A similar pattern was noted for isolates using the alternative co-receptor CXCR6. Sensitivity to neutralizing antibodies appeared also to be linked to specific Env motifs in V1/V2 and C3 regions. Our findings suggest that HIV-2 sensitivity to neutralization depends both on which co-receptor is used for cell entry and on specific Env motifs. The purpose of this study is to advance wireless sensing technology for permanent installation in operational highway bridges for long-term automated health assessment. The work advances the design of a solar-powered wireless sensor network architecture that can be permanently deployed in harsh winter climates where limited solar energy and cold temperatures are normal operational conditions. To demonstrate the performance of the solar-powered wireless sensor network, it is installed on the multi-steel girder bridge carrying northbound I-275 traffic over Telegraph Road (Monroe, Michigan) in 2011; a unique design feature of the bridge is the use of pin and hanger connections to support the bridge main span. A dense network of strain gauges, accelerometers and thermometers are installed to acquire bridge responses of interest to the bridge manager including responses that would be affected by long-term bridge deterioration. The wireless monitoring system collects sensor data on a daily schedule and communicates the data to the Internet where it is stored in a curated data repository. Bridge response data in the repository are autonomously processed to extract truck load events using machine learning, compensate for environmental variations using nonlinear regression and to quantitatively assess anomalous bridge performance using statistical process control. 相似文献

This paper describes a readout integrated circuit architecture for an infrared focal plane array intended for infrared network-attached video cameras in surveillance applications. The focal plane array consists of 352 × 288 uncooled thin-film microbolometer detectors with a pitch of 25 μm, enabling ambient temperature operation. The circuit features a low-noise readout path, detector resistance mismatch correction and a non-linear ramped current pulse scheme for the electrical biasing of the detectors in order to relax the dynamic range requirement of amplifiers and the ADC in the readout channel, imposed by detector process variation and self-heating during readout. The design is implemented in a 0.35-μm standard CMOS process and two versions of a smaller 32 × 32-pixel test chip have been fabricated and measured for evaluation. The latest test chip achieves a dynamic range of 97 dB and an input-referred RMS noise voltage of 6.4 μV yielding an estimated NETD value of 26 mK with f/1 optics. At a frame rate of 60 FPS the chip dissipates 170 mW of power from a 3.4 V supply. 相似文献

A prototype LHC magnet has been built and tested at voltages of up to 35 kV. This paper describes the design of the high voltage excitation coil of the magnet, the different options for the coil insulation material and the adopted manufacturing process. It discusses the loss-factor measurements that have been carried out as part of the acceptance tests. Finally, it reports on endurance tests of the coil when it is mounted in the yoke and operated in a pulsed mode. The two dumping systems are furthermore used to remove the counter-rotating beams safely during the setting up of the accelerator and in case of emergencies. Reliable and accurate dumping is of prime importance. Ligand binding properties of five single amino acid substituted variants (V11A, D12A, Q15A, Q15E, and F16A) of human insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) were analyzed with respect to their binding affinities and binding kinetics to recombinant IGF binding protein 1 (IGFBP-1) and a soluble form of the IGF type I receptor (sIGF-I(R)), respectively. Side chains of the substituted residues are all predicted to be the most surface exposed in the alpha-helical portion of the B-region of the IGF-I molecule. The IGF-I variants were produced as fusion proteins to a IgG(Fc) binding protein domain, Z. Ligand binding kinetic rates were determined using BIAcore biosensor interaction analysis technology. All IGF-I variants showed altered binding affinities to both IGFBP- I and sIGF-I(R). Secondary structure content of the IGF-I variants was estimated using far-UV circular dichroism spectroscopy, followed by variable selection secondary structure calculations. The amount of calculated alpha-helicity is reduced for all the mutants, most predominantly for IGF-I(V11A) and IGF-I(F16A) proteins. Surprisingly, most of the effects of reduced binding affinities to both target proteins are attributed to lowered on-rates of binding, and these are correlated with the amount of alpha-helicity in each IGF-I variant. In addition, in some of the IGF-I variants, lowered off-rates of binding are observed. From the results, we propose that IGF-I is unusually sensitive to structural changes by surface amino acid substitutions in the B-region of the molecule. Therefore, biochemical or biological properties of amino acid substituted variants of IGF-I cannot be used in a straightforward way to dissect the direct involvement in binding of individual amino acid residues since structural changes may be involved. 相似文献
