At some stages of development, it is impossible to identify the porcine nodular worms Oesophagostomum dentatum and O. quadrispinulatum to the species level using morphological parameters. A molecular approach utilizing genetic markers in the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) of ribosomal (r) DNA was developed to overcome this limitation. The ITS-2 sequence of each species was determined, and specific oligonucleotide primers were designed to regions of greatest sequence difference between the species. Utilizing these primers, rapid PCR procedures were developed for the specific amplification of DNA of O. dentatum or O. quadrispinulatum, which are now used routinely to monitor the purity of larval cultures and to confirm the identity of larvae derived from the intestine or faeces. The application of specific PCR has major implications for studying the population biology of nodular worms in the pig model.

The hope is to develop successful application of psychoanalytic theory and technique to the psychological problems of people living in poverty. Careful examination of their psychological reality may offer a unique opportunity to broaden vision of assessment to what constitutes dysfunctional condition, the concept of adaptation, the development of the working alliance, the nature of resistance and transference reactions, and the like. The analyst's personal discomfort, motivations, and stubborn adherence to specific theoretical and technical stances are considered the most damaging obstacles in this endeavor. Induced changes in bioactive compounds of kailan-hybrid broccoli after innovative processing and storage

The glucosinolates, sulforaphane, vitamin C and lutein content after several industrial cooking methods on the new kailan-hybrid broccoli and their changes during storage for 45 days at 4 °C were studied. Boiling and sous vide induced the highest glucosinolate loss (80%), while low pressure (LP) steaming, microwaving (MW) and sous vide-MW showed the lowest (40%) loss. Glucoraphanin was the most thermostable glucosinolate. Throughout their commercial life, microwaved and grilled samples showed a decrease in total glucosinolates. Generally, myrosinase activity was completely inhibited after cooking with undetected sulforaphane contents. The initial total vitamin C dropped by up to 58% after cooking and progressively decreased during storage, with sous vide-MW (92%) and microwaving (21%) showing the highest and lowest decrements, respectively. LP steaming and microwaving were the best industrial cooking methods for maintaining the glucosinolate and vitamin C contents, and enhancing up to 7.5-fold the initial lutein content.
