Bubble wake visualization by using photochromic dye   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Wake structure of a single “clean bubble”, rising in rectilinear, zigzagging or spiraling path, is experimentally investigated. A single nitrogen gas bubble was produced in a silicone oil pool and the wake structure development in the rear of the rising bubble was visualized by using photochromic dye. The flexibility of this visualization method enabled us to distinguish wake from drift easily. Both bubble motion and wake structure were recorded by using stereo high-speed video camera simultaneously. We present the first experimental support for the existence of the standing eddy at the rear of the clean bubble, as predicted by a previous numerical study by Ryskin and Leal [1984. Journal of Fluid Mechanics 148, 19-35], Dandy and Leal [1986. Physics of Fluids 29(5), 1360-1366] and Blanco and Magnaudet [1995. Physics of Fluids 7(6), 1265-1274]. We study motion of a pair of vortex filaments, which is called double-threaded type wake, in the case of bubble rising in an axi-asymmetric path. Visualization results of multiple formations of horse-shoe type vortices in one period of zigzag motion of rising bubble with shape oscillations, which has not been observed in previous studies are also presented.  相似文献

A novel chromatographic separation technique using a tertiary pyridine type resin has been applied to the partitioning of the trivalent actinides (An) and lanthanides (Ln) and several successful results have been shown. In an alcoholic hydrochloric acid system, the trivalent An were clearly separated from the Ln, while no such group separation was achieved in an alcoholic nitric acid system. On the other hand, the nitric acid system was more effective for the intragroup (i.e. individual) separation of the trivalent An and the Ln than the hydrochloric acid system. On the basis of these results, a novel concept for the partitioning of the trivalent An and Ln using the present separation technique and its flowchart have been proposed with its advantages and disadvantages.  相似文献

Flower-shaped crystals with diameters of 100–200 μm consisting of LaBGeO5 (LBGO) single crystals similar to petals were observed in the interior of transparent LBGO surface-crystallized glasses. Each flower-shaped crystal was radially grown from the surface of the included bubbles. A more intense second-harmonic generation was observed from the LBGO crystallized glasses with the flower-shaped LBGO single crystals compared to the samples without such crystals based on the Maker fringe technique and second-harmonic (SH) generation microscopy. The SH intensity for the flower-shaped LBGO single crystals monotonically decreased with increasing temperature up to 350 °C, less than the Curie temperature reported so far (530 °C). It is considered that the internal compressive stress induced by the difference in the thermal expansion between the LBGO single crystal and the corresponding glass affect the ferroelectric property of the flower-shaped LBGO single crystals in glass.  相似文献

The practical difficulty of parenteral application of fish vaccines against devastating fish diseases diverted the interest toward oral vaccination. Search for effective methods to enhance the oral uptake of viral and bacterial vaccines is continuing. The current research focus on a new role of mucosal fish vaccine adjuvants inducing the antigen uptake by enhancing vascularity or increasing intestinal permeability. Some inflammatory substances cause reversible pathology to the intestinal epithelium, which could be employed for the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles. The natural inflammatory substances used were capsaicin, piperine, and okadaic acid as 1 mg, 2 mg, and 1 μg/fish, respectively. Two inactivated vaccines were used as antigens to test the effect of these inflammatory substances in two different fish hosts. Tested vaccines were inactivated redspotted grouper nervous necrosis virus vaccine in sevenband grouper (Epinephelus septemfasciatus) and inactivated Edwardsiella tarda vaccine in red sea bream (Pagrus major) fish models. The inflammatory substances and each vaccine were anally intubated to fish. Capsaicin proved to be effectively aiding the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles more than piperine, while okadaic acid had no detectable effect.  相似文献

Abstract

A method of describing centrosymmetric gratings (radial, circular and spiral) is presented. The moiré-fringe profile produced by centrosymmetric gratings is analysed using polar coordinates. The concept of the angle of intersection for two superimposed gratings is examined and it is shown how from this study moiré patterns formed from centrosymmetric gratings can be analysed automatically by digital computer. Examples of theoretically predicted patterns, generated by the proposed procedure, are compared with actual moiré-fringe patterns. This method provides for the first time a procedure that can be used in engineering for improving the contrast of moiré patterns and for sharpening these patterns.  相似文献

Recently, there has been abundant research using multineuron recording, but there are many problems with extracting the features from the obtained spike time series, which are huge in volume and complex. Here we introduce a new method of estimating synaptic connection strengths between neurons by fitting to the Izhikevich model by maximum likelihood estimation. We demonstrate that our method can estimate connection strengths from spike time series given by a simulated neural ensemble and can estimate nonconnectivity between two independent cultured neuronal networks. These results suggest that our method is applicable to network and plasticity analysis of neuronal networks.  相似文献

The electric potential, copper ion flux, and ammonia flux across the interface of cuprammonium cellulose solution (CCS) and various 1.0 equiv/Lelectrolyte solutions (ES) at 25°C were measured. The interfacial potentials were strongly negative (–10 to –35 mV) with H2SO4, HCI, and (NH4)2SO4 as ES, weakly positive (6 to 8 mV) with NaCl, KCl, LiCl, CsCL, and RbCl as ES, and strongly positive (19 to 34 mV) with KOH and NaOH as ES, generally showing values similar to the diffusion potentials for electrolyte solutions comprising ions of the same absolute charge. The ammonia flux (about 1 X 10-4 mol/cm2/s) was relatively unaffected by the interfacial potential, but the copper ion flux was clearly dependent on it. These results, together with the observed rates of CCS coagulation, indicate that the mechanism of the coagulation was largely determined by the interfacial potential, with strongly negative potential gradients accelerating the Cu2+ flux into the ES and CCS coagulation proceeding rapidly by Cu2+ removal, strongly positive potential gradients accelerating the Na+ flux into the CCS and coagulation proceeding rapidly via the formation of cellulose-Na+ complex, and the absence of a strong potential gradient capable of accelerating the ion flux resulting in slow coagulation by ammonia removal. It may therefore be possible to control the interfacial potential and the ion flux by the ES composition, and thus to influence the structure of regenerated cellulosic fibers and membranes. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Mitochondrial membrane potential regulation through the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) is reportedly involved in the ischemic postconditioning (PostC) phenomenon. Melatonin is an endogenous hormone that regulates circadian rhythms. Its neuroprotective effects via mitochondrial melatonin receptors (MTs) have recently attracted attention. However, details of the neuroprotective mechanisms associated with PostC have not been clarified. Using hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cells from C57BL mice, we studied the involvement of MTs and the mPTP in melatonin-induced PostC mechanisms similar to those of ischemic PostC. We measured changes in spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSCs), intracellular calcium concentration, mitochondrial membrane potential, and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) currents after ischemic challenge, using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Melatonin significantly suppressed increases in sEPSCs and intracellular calcium concentrations. The NMDAR currents were significantly suppressed by melatonin and the MT agonist, ramelteon. However, this suppressive effect was abolished by the mPTP inhibitor, cyclosporine A, and the MT antagonist, luzindole. Furthermore, both melatonin and ramelteon potentiated depolarization of mitochondrial membrane potentials, and luzindole suppressed depolarization of mitochondrial membrane potentials. This study suggests that melatonin-induced PostC via MTs suppressed the NMDAR that was induced by partial depolarization of mitochondrial membrane potential by opening the mPTP, reducing excessive release of glutamate and inducing neuroprotection against ischemia-reperfusion injury.  相似文献
