This paper describes development of a visible light 4 Pulse position modulation (4PPM) data communication device for underwater swarms using a nonlinear synchronizing system. SWARM—a group robot that uses intelligence as a group—do as ants and bees, is expected to be useful for marine resource exploration. Specifically, numerous SWARMs will be grouped to explore marine resources efficiently. An important difficulty is the change in electronic circuit characteristics because of high water pressure in the deep sea. Development of small and simple underwater SWARM communication devices must eliminate this problem without using large pressure-proof containers. As described herein, we considered nonlinear synchronizing systems as effective because they can be synchronized even if system time constants differ. Such systems resemble the glow mechanism used by fireflies. They have individuality, but they flash synchronously when in a group. We developed a visible light communication device using this nonlinear synchronization system based on the firefly concept. Test results confirmed that they are synchronized even if a time constant difference exists between them. Furthermore, we achieved 4PPM data communication using the nonlinear synchronization signal as a communication clock.  相似文献

The stochastic cell transmission model (SCTM) is a macroscopic traffic simulation model of high accuracy. One of its advantages is that it can represent the uncertainty of the traffic states and the changing travel demand and supply conditions. However, it has been applied to freeways and simple networks having only one origin‐destination pair. In this article, we propose a modified stochastic cell transmission model (M‐SCTM) that applies the conventional SCTM to urban networks. In M‐SCTM, we introduce vehicle agents as well as their route choice behavior on an urban network, which is more applicable to complex urban networks. Additionally, M‐SCTM was applied to networks in which the turning ratio is not priorly set through a route search algorithm. The results show that M‐SCTM can conduct simulations with as much accuracy as SCTM. Furthermore, we verified the appropriate reproducibility of the simulations based on M‐SCTM and compared the estimated value and the measured value in terms of the travel time of each vehicle.  相似文献

Evolutionary developmental biology, evo-devo, emerged to integrate evolution and development in the 1980s, in which evolution is conceptualized as heritable changes in development. Recently, the field is moving to a new synthesis: ecological evolutionary developmental biology, eco-evo-devo. We believe that artificial life (ALife) approach will provide new insights into the field, and also contribute to the field of robotics through the emergence perspective and the constructive methodology. This paper explores the potential of such an artificial life approach based on the evolution of virtual creatures by presenting our ongoing studies with three models: (1) metamorphosis model, (2) exaptation model and (3) Prey-predator model.  相似文献

An ASCII art is a matrix of ASCII code characters that reproduces an original grey-scale image. A JIS art is an ASCII art that uses JIS Kanji code characters instead of ASCII code characters. They are commonly used to represent pseudo grey-scale images in text -based messages. Since automatic generation of high quality ASCII/JIS art images is very hard, they are usually produced by hand. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a new technique to generate an ASCII/JIS art that reproduces the original tone and the details of an input grey-scale image. Our new technique is inspired by the local exhaustive search (LES) to optimise binary images for printing based on the characteristic of the human visual system. Although it can generate high quality ASCII/JIS art images, a lot of computing time is necessary for the LES. Hence, we have implemented our new technique in a graphics processing unit (GPU) to accelerate the computation. The experimental results show that the GPU implementation can achieve a speedup factor up to 89.56 over the conventional CPU implementation.  相似文献

Macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) is a reproducible unimodal relation between average vehicle density and average flow rate in urban traffic. Although this idea is tested by a few observations and simulations, its mechanism is not well understood. In order to understand it, a simple graph-based model of urban traffic is proposed. MFDs in our model system are investigated numerically for grid networks. It is found that MFDs in our system are discontinuous, which is inconsistent with the observation of real urban traffic.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the correlation between surface composition and peeling resistance in food packaging films by studying the heat aging of fabricated films over varying periods of time. The films consisted of a layer of aluminum (Al) metallized, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) bonded with a polyurethane (PU) adhesive onto another polymeric layer of low-density polyethylene (LDPE). The Al metallized films were prepared by physical vapor deposition (PVD) and aged at 60°C for either 5 or 15 days. The resulting aluminum surfaces were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and found to contain aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and trihydroxide (Al(OH)3). The XPS characterization also revealed a 29% increase in the Al(OH)3 layer thickness of the aged sample relative to a non-aged sample. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was applied on investigations of possible morphology changes. The aluminum and PU adhesive surface energies were also determined using contact angles measurements and the aluminum surface energy was found to increase by as much as 11.7% compared to the non-aged sample, while the PU adhesive surface energy was at least 65% higher than that of the metallic substrate. The peeling resistance of the laminated aluminum was determined by average peel strength measurements and it was found that the variation in peel strength was related to changes in the Al2O3 layer thickness. The delaminated samples were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDS) and showed the cohesive failure of the aluminum film.  相似文献

Polycarbonate/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (PC/ABS) blends have been used widely for specific applications such as in automotive interior and exterior parts, and for office automation equipment parts. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a reactive polymer as a modifier on properties such as the impact strength of PC/ABS blends. A reaction between PC and maleic anhydride group cannot usually be expected because the end hydroxyl group of PC is capped with an end‐capping agent such as t‐butylphenol to improve PC properties such as fluidity, thermal resistance, and impact strength. However, a reactive polymer that has a maleic anhydride group reacts with the end hydroxyl group of PC hydrolyzed with metal salts.
