Some problems with the development of combined generation of electricity and heat in Russia

The current state of cogeneration in Russia is analyzed. It is characterized by a sharp decrease in industrial heat consumption and a reduction in the demand for electricity. As a result many cogeneration plants presently operate under off-design conditions, which change their economic indexes to the worse. The ways of introducing small-scale cogeneration installations are considered, which show promise under the existing conditions of limited investments. The problems that accompany the introduction of modern highly efficient large-capacity power units at cogeneration plants are analyzed.     

Role of Heavy Meromyosin in Heat‐Induced Gelation in Low Ionic Strength Solution Containing l‐Histidine

The gelation of myosin has a very important role in meat products. We have already shown that myosin in low ionic strength solution containing l ‐histidine forms a transparent gel after heating. To clarify the mechanism of this unique gelation, we investigated the changes in the nature of myosin subfragments during heating in solutions with low and high ionic strengths with and without l ‐histidine. The hydrophobicity of myosin and heavy meromyosin (HMM) in low ionic strength solution containing l ‐histidine was lower than in high ionic strength solution. The SH contents of myosin and HMM in low ionic strength solution containing l ‐histidine did not change during the heating process, whereas in high ionic strength solution they decreased slightly. The heat‐induced globular masses of HMM in low ionic strength solution containing l ‐histidine were smaller than those in high ionic strength solution. These findings suggested that the polymerization of HMM molecules by heating was suppressed in low ionic strength solution containing l ‐histidine, resulting in formation of the unique gel.     

Inter-laboratory validation studies of biological method for determination of streptomycin in royal jelly

Inter-laboratory validation studies were conducted in 6 laboratories to validate the biological method for determination of streptomycin in royal jelly. Streptomycin spiked at the level of 0.2 and 1.0 ppm was analyzed. Mean recoveries were 89 and 96%, reproducibility relative standard deviations (RSD(R)) were 15.0 and 14.0%, HORRAT(R) values were 0.7 and 0.9. Samples containing residues at the levels of 0.25 and 0.80 ppm were analyzed. Mean recoveries were 113 and 99%, RSD(R) were 15.0 and 10.4%, and HORRAT(R) values were 0.8 and 0.6. The determination limit was 0.1 ppm. These results show that this method has good performance.

Effects of rice cleaning and cooking process on the residues of flutolanil,fenobucarb, silafluofen and buprofezin in rice

We studied the effect of cleaning and cooking on the residues of flutolanil, fenobucarb, silafluofen and buprofezin in rice. The rice had been sprayed in a paddy field in Wakayama city, with 3 kinds of pesticide application protocols: spraying once at the usual concentration of pesticides, repeated spraying (3 times) with the usual concentration of pesticides and spraying once with 3 times the usual concentration of pesticides. The residue levels of pesticide decreased during the rice cleaning process. Silafluofen, which has a higher log Pow value, remained in the hull of the rice. Fenobucarb, which has a lower log Pow value, penetrated inside the rice. The residue concentration of pesticide in polished rice was higher than that in pre-washed rice processed ready for cooking. During the cooking procedure, the reduction of pesticides in polished rice was higher than that in brown rice.     

Sorption versus biomineralization of Pb(II) within Burkholderia cepacia biofilms

X-ray spectroscopy measurements have been combined with macroscopic uptake data and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results to show that Pb(II) uptake by Burkholderia cepacia is due to simultaneous sorption and biomineralization processes. X-ray microprobe mapping of B. cepacia biofilms formed on alpha-Al2O3 surfaces shows that Pb(II) is distributed heterogeneously throughout the biofilms because of the formation of Pb "hot spots". EXAFS data and TEM observations show that the enhanced Pb accumulation is due to the formation of nanoscale crystals of pyromorphite (Pb5(PO4)3(OH)) adjacent to the outer-membrane of a fraction of the total population of B. cepacia cells. In contrast, B. cepacia cell suspensions or biofilms that were heat-killed or pretreated with X-rays do not form pyromorphite, which suggests that metabolic activity is required. Precipitation of pyromorphite occurs over several orders of magnitude in [H-] and [Pb] and accounts for approximately 90% of the total Pb uptake below pH 4.5 but only 45-60% at near-neutral pH because of the formation of additional Pb(II) adsorption complexes. Structural fits of Pb L(III) EXAFS data collected for heat-treated cells at near-neutral pH suggest that Pb(II) forms inner-sphere adsorption complexes with carboxyl functional groups in the biofilms.

The decrease of calorie in ration content, insufficient consumption of proteins and lipids was found among the patients in the condition of penitentiary establishment, it results in decrease of characteristics of natural immunity and resistibility to various infections agents, to the action of toxic substances, stress and other negative conditions that take place in penitentiary establishment a disbalanse of regulatory subpopulation of cellular consistent of immunity and predominance of suppressive-cytotoxic influence was observed among the patients of the penitentiary establishment (with a reduced ration of nutrition) over halt a year. Considering a health problem, in the establishments of imprisonment one may probably state that a reduced ration of nutrition is one of the main courses of immune homeostasis shift leasing in the basis of specific and non-specific phenomena of morbidity.
