Gas chromatography of the volatile by-products produced during the catalytic hydrogenation of an autoxidized soybean oil with a peroxide number of 11.2 meq/kg yielded approx 41 peaks. Twenty-one of the gas chromatographic fractions were collected and rechromatographed, and their chemical identity studied with micro-iR and mass spectrophotometry. These volatile by-products, according to peak area of gas chromatogram, showed a predominance of hydrocarbons and alcohols. The fractions which have been identified aren-octane,n-nonane,n-decane,n-heptadecane,n-hexanol,n-heptanol,n-decanol,n-hexanal,n-decanal and 3-nonanone. Among the gas chromatographic fractions collected,n-decanol has an odor most reminiscent of that of catalytic hydrogenation. New antioxidants, cassumunarins A, B, and C, were isolated from the rhizomes ofZingiber cassumunar, and the structures were determined by spectroscopic methods to be complex curcuminoids. The antixidant efficiency of cassumunarins was determined by inhibitory activity of autoxidation of linoleic acid in a buffer-ethanol system. The anti-inflammatory effect was measured by inhibition of edema formation on mouse ear induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate. The effects of heparin and other polyanions on the myotoxicity of Bothrops jararacussu venom and purified bothropstoxin (BthTX) were investigated. The release rate of creatine kinase (CK) from isolated extensor digitorum longus muscle and the plasma CK activity of mice were used to quantify the results. The myotoxic effects of B. jararacussu venom or BthTX were inhibited by preincubation of these agents with one of the following: a heterogeneous heparin preparation (designated 'heparin'), low mol. wt heparin (H-4500) or dextran sulfates (DS-8000 and DS-500,000). Non-sulfated dextran (D-40,000) and two chondroitin sulfates were ineffective. The antimyotoxic effects of the polyanions are ascribed to their forming inactive acid-base complexes with the basic myotoxins of Bothrops venoms. Gel-filtration experiments in Sephadex provided direct evidence for complex formation between heparin and BthTX. Intravenous (i.v.) administration of H-4500 or DS-8000 opposed the increase in plasma CK activity induced by a subsequent i.m. injection of venom or BthTX. In contrast, pretreatment with i.v. heparin or DS-500,000 enhanced the venom-induced increase in plasma CK activity. This effect was not observed (1) when the animals were treated with a polyvalent antivenom, which inhibits the coagulation and local stasis induced by Bothrops venoms, and (2) when BthTX, which has no thrombotic or hemorrhagic properties, was the myotoxic agent. The potentiation of the venom-induced increase in plasma CK activity by heparin and DS-500,000 is ascribed to improved washout of the CK released from damaged fibers, because of the anticoagulant properties of the drugs.  相似文献

Summary A new monomer 4 has been prepared from the reaction of p-phenylenediamine and excess of thionyl chloride. Reaction of 4 with benzidine in NMP or DMF at elevated temperature resulted a new polymer having -NH-SO-NH-functionality in the backbone. Macroscopic T-type Ca2+ currents, which are often observed in fetal and neonatal cardiac muscle cells, were not found in normal (0 of 17) adult feline ventricular myocytes. However, they were present in most (15 of 21) myocytes isolated from adult feline left ventricles with long-standing pressure-overload-induced hypertrophy. This is the first study to provide evidence in a large mammal, such as the cat, that T-type Ca2+ channels may be reexpressed in adults in association with hypertrophy resulting from slow progressive pressure overload. Importantly, this expression was stable for the duration of the hypertrophy process and was not associated with abrupt pressure overload. T-type Ca2+ currents were separated from L-type Ca2+ currents by exploiting the differences in their voltage dependence of steady-state inactivation. Depolarizations from -80 mV revealed a rapidly activating inward current that peaked in magnitude at -30 mV (-1.8 +/- 0.9 [mean +/- SD] pA/pF) and fully inactivated within 100 milliseconds in 15 of 21 hypertrophied myocytes studied. Further depolarizations activated progressively less T-type Ca2+ current, so that at +10 mV the L-type Ca2+ current predominated. In the hypertrophied myocytes that demonstrated both T-type and L-type Ca2+ currents, two distinct peaks occurred in their current-voltage relations. T-type Ca2+ currents were not evident in any of the 17 normal adult feline left ventricular myocytes studied. The purpose of T-type Ca2+ currents in hypertrophy is unclear. However, their presence may make hypertrophied myocardium more prone to spontaneous action potentials and increase the likelihood for arrhythmias in partially depolarized hypertrophied myocardium.  相似文献

Dynamic viscoelastic properties of a series of cyclic olefin copolymers have been investigated. The specimens differ in total molecular weight as well as molecular weight between entanglements. The angular frequency (ω) dependence curves of dynamic storage and loss moduli (G′ and G″, respectively) of the specimens have shown that G′ ∝ ω2 and G″ ∝ ω in the terminal region, and a plateau region at high ω. On the basis of the experimental results, the dependence of total molecular weight as well as molecular weight between entanglements has been examined for zero-shear viscosity (η0) and steady-state compliance (Je). It is shown that for the melts of the copolymers in the entangled regime, Mw being the weight-average molecular weight and Me the molecular weight between entanglements. The transmission performance of optical single-carrier (SC) transmission using frequency-domain equalisation (FDE) to counter polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) is evaluated. 25 Gbit/s coherent optical SC transmission using FDE (CO-SC-FDE) is demonstrated in the presence of a significant amount of differential group delay (DGD). The results show that CO-SC-FDE compensates for the influence of the 125 ps DGD; the OSNR penalty is 0.81 dB.  相似文献

Although natural convection is frequently encountered in various chemical processes, Rayleigh number (Ra) cannot be defined fully in shear-thinning fluid systems. In particular, the velocity scale, which is necessary to estimate the effective viscosity of the system, should be discussed carefully. Thus, in this study, the representative velocity scale of Rayleigh-Bénard (RB) convection, which is a typical example of natural convection, with shear-thinning fluids was investigated based on the velocity fields obtained using computational fluid dynamics. Numerical simulations revealed that the critical temperature difference at which RB convection starts to fully develop decreases with an increase in the shear-thinning property. The shear-thinning property also induced subcritical bifurcation. In addition, the velocity scale of convection increases with an increase in the shear-thinning property. Thus, the shear-thinning property is considered to accelerate convection. Compared with several types of velocity scales used by other researchers, significant deviations from the actual scale were observed. Therefore, a new type of velocity scale, including the buoyant to viscous force ratio, arbitrary parameter, and thermal diffusivity, was proposed. The proposed velocity scale allowed an approximate estimation of the actual velocity scale. Although further investigation of the validity is necessary with varying geometries and rheological parameters, this velocity scale will be useful for controlling RB convection with Newtonian/shear-thinning fluids.  相似文献
