It has been essential to include flexibility in manufacturing policy making since variability in demand and products are considerably increasing. However, it is important to know and to monitor the proper level and type of flexibility that is required to obtain full benefits from it. This paper analyses the effects of flexibility on flow time performance of a simulated job shop. For that purpose, several scenarios are developed under four flexibility levels with two different machine selection rule and three types of dispatching rules. Furthermore, effect of jockeying as a queuing policy on the flow time performance is also investigated through simulation modeling. Results indicated that full flexibility is a preferable state for most of the cases. However, in some cases, chain configurations perform similar results since it combines the benefits of pooling and specialization. In addition, it is observed that a queue control mechanism like jockeying is an effective way to improve performance even though it may increase complexity of controlling policy.  相似文献

Dynamic stability of the torsional vibrations of a shaft system consisting of two torsionally elastic shafts interconnected through a Hooke's joint is investigated by means of a two degree-of-freedom model. The linearized equations of motion are shown to consist of a set of Mathieu-Hill equations and stability of their solutions is analyzed by means of a monodromy matrix method. Results are presented in the form of stability charts constructed on various parameter planes visualizing the effect of various selected pairs of system parameters on the stability.  相似文献

Batch adsorption studies were carried out for the sorption of C.I. Reactive Black 5, a reactive dye, onto high lime fly ash, obtained from Soma Thermal Power Plant (Turkey), to be low cost adsorbent. The effect of various experimental parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dose and initial dye concentration were investigated. Determination of the adsorption equilibrium concentrations was determined by UV-vis spectrophotometry analytical method. Equilibrium data were fitted to the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Freundlich isotherm equation. The adsorption kinetics of C.I. Reactive Black 5 onto high lime fly ash were also studied to characterize of the surface complexation reaction. A pseudo-second-order mechanism has been developed to predict the rate constant of the adsorption, the equilibrium capacity and initial adsorption rate with the effect of initial concentration. A single-stage batch adsorber design of the adsorption of C.I. Reactive Black 5 onto high lime fly ash has been studied based on the Freundlich isotherm equation.  相似文献

The use of naturally present heterogeneous catalysts has recently been an essential issue in the Fenton and photo-Fenton processes. In this study, the uses of basalt as a catalyst for the Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions for methylene Blue (MB) and Basic Red 18 (BR18) degradations were investigated. Basalt was selected because of the presence of the iron (III) oxide in the structure. Basalt was characterized by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis to obtain the chemical composition and the crystalline phase. The surface charge and the surface area were obtained by zeta potential and Brunauer Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were utilized to explore the functional group and the surface morphology. Fenton and photo-Fenton processes were applied to explore the best degradation method. Adsorption was also tested and the adsorption process had minimum removal efficiency (12% for MB and 17% for BR18). The removal efficiencies for MB and BR18 by the Fenton process were 87% and 28%, respectively. The photo-Fenton process had maximum removal efficiency with 100% for MB and 70% for BR18. The optimum conditions were 70 mg/L dye concentration, 5 mM H2O2, 1.0 g/L basalt loading and pH 2. Basalt has shown reuse capability as a catalyst for three consecutive cycles.  相似文献

Intermolecular complex by electrostatic interaction and specifically coupled conjugates between polyacrylic acid (PAA) and a synthetic peptide representing 170-188 sequence from the GH loop of VP1 protein of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) were investigated as an intermolecular model system due to their importance in biotechnology and immunology. In this study, polyacrylic acid (PAA) with a synthetic peptide representing 170-188 sequence from the GH loop of VP1 protein of foot-and-mouth disease virus at a wide range of mixing ratios of components (CPeptide/CPAA 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0, respectively) were characterized by size-exclusion high performance liquid chromatography with on-line refractive index, UV, light scattering and viscometer detectors. The results revealed that two molecules are both negatively charged as a result of repulsive forces preventing complex formation at neutral pH. Therefore, these molecules bound covalently to each other by using water-soluble carbodiimide when pH levels are higher than the pI of the peptide. High performance liquid chromatography analysis showed that the amount of protein-polymer complex increased and free peptide amount decreased with the increase in molar ratio of the peptide. Also, this paper presents that number of the bound peptide molecules with one PAA molecule was expressed by a Langmuir-type equation as a function of the amount of excess synthetic peptide existing free in the solution.  相似文献

Bomaplex Red CR-L textile dye was used in the experimental studies. Taguchi method was applied to determine optimum conditions in the removal of dye from synthetic textile wastewater. After the parameters were determined to remove Bomaplex Red CR-L dye from synthetic textile wastewater, the experimental studies were realized. The chosen experimental parameters and their ranges: HCO3- (mM), 0-39; temperature (degrees C), 18-70; ozone-air flow rate (l min-1), 5-15; the dye concentration (ppm), 200-600; particulate activated carbon (PAC) (g), 0-1.5; H2O2 (mM), 0-0056; pH, 3-12; and treatment time (min), 10-30, respectively. An orthogonal array L18 (2(1)x3(7)) for experimental plan and the smaller the better performance statistics formula were selected to define optimum conditions. The optimum conditions were found to be as follows: HCO3- (mM), 0; temperature (degrees C), 70; ozone-air flow rate (l min-1), 10; the dye concentration (ppm), 200; particulate activated carbon (PAC) (g), 1; H2O2 (mM), 0.056; pH, 12; and time (min), 20. Under these optimum conditions, it was determined that the Bomaplex Red CR-L removal efficiency from textile wastewater was 99%.  相似文献

Most of the current design methods for driven piles were developed for closed-ended pipe piles driven in either pure clay or clean sand. These methods are sometimes used for H piles as well, even though the axial load response of H piles is different from that of pipe piles. Furthermore, in reality, soil profiles often consist of multiple layers of soils that may contain sand, clay, silt or a mixture of these three particle sizes. Therefore, accurate prediction of the ultimate bearing capacity of H piles driven in a mixed soil is very challenging. In addition, although results of well documented load tests on pipe piles are available, the literature contains limited information on the design of H piles. Most of the current design methods for driven piles do not provide specific recommendations for H piles. In order to evaluate the static load response of an H pile, fully instrumented axial load tests were performed on an H pile (HP?310×110) driven into a multilayered soil profile consisting of soils composed of various amounts of clay, silt and sand. The base of the H pile was embedded in a very dense nonplastic silt layer overlying a clay layer. This paper presents the results of the laboratory tests performed to characterize the soil profile and of the pile load tests. It also compares the measured pile resistances with those predicted with soil property- and in situ test-based methods.  相似文献

Multiscale modeling and integration of physiological models carry challenges due to the complex nature of physiological processes. High coupling within and among scales present a significant challenge in constructing and integrating multiscale physiological models. In order to deal with such challenges in a systematic way, there is a significant need for an information technology framework together with related analytical and computational tools that will facilitate integration of models and simulations of complex biological systems. Physiological Model Simulation, Integration and Modeling Framework (Phy-SIM) is an information technology framework providing the tools to facilitate development, integration and simulation of integrated models of human physiology. Phy-SIM brings software level solutions to the challenges raised by the complex nature of physiological systems. The aim of Phy-SIM, and this paper is to lay some foundation with the new approaches such as information flow and modular representation of the physiological models. The ultimate goal is to enhance the development of both the models and the integration approaches of multiscale physiological processes and thus this paper focuses on the design approaches that would achieve such a goal.  相似文献

Reduced EBPR performance in full and bench-scale EBPR studies was linked to the proliferation of GAOs but often time with the lack of any evidence. In this study, a detailed enzymatic study was coupled with batch tests and electron microscopy results for a realistic explanation. The results eliminated the possibility of population shift from PAO to GAO or other non-PAO due to the short batch test period provided which would not allow a population shift and further justified with the electron microscopy results. The results indicate that glycogen serves not only as source of reducing power for PHA production but also serves as an alternative energy source when the poly-P pool of the PAOs is depleted. Slow generation of ATP via glycolytic pathway at 5 degrees C cannot satisfy energy requirements of EBPR cells to complete several cell functions including acetate uptake and PHA storage. However, the glycolytic pathway is efficiently operable at warm temperatures (> 20 degrees C). The reduced performance of enhanced EBPR facilities operated at warm temperature may not be a result of GAO proliferation; instead it may be related the efficient use of the glycolytic pathway by PAOs which results in more glycogen storage and less P uptake, thereby reducing the EBPR performance.  相似文献
