Four nanostructured oxidised copper-cerium catalysts prepared by two different methods (impregnation of ceria and coprecipitation of the two components within reverse microemulsions) with varying copper loadings have been examined with the aim of establishing correlations between redox and catalytic properties for preferential oxidation of CO in H2-rich streams. The analysis is based on ex situ TPR examination both with H2 or CO as well as operando spectroscopic exploration by DRIFTS and XANES, additionally complemented by conventional catalytic tests. The results reveal redox promoting effects on copper oxide reduction and allow establishing a model of the catalytic behaviour of this type of catalysts which can provide keys to control their CO-PROX catalytic properties. 相似文献

Defensive toxins are widespread in nature, yet we know little about how various environmental factors shape the evolution of chemical defense, especially in vertebrates. In this study we investigated the natural variation in the amount and composition of bufadienolide toxins, and the relative importance of ecological factors in predicting that variation, in larvae of the common toad, Bufo bufo, an amphibian that produces toxins de novo. We found that tadpoles’ toxin content varied markedly among populations, and the number of compounds per tadpole also differed between two geographical regions. The most consistent predictor of toxicity was the strength of competition, indicating that tadpoles produced more compounds and larger amounts of toxins when coexisting with more competitors. Additionally, tadpoles tended to contain larger concentrations of bufadienolides in ponds that were less prone to desiccation, suggesting that the costs of toxin production can only be afforded by tadpoles that do not need to drastically speed up their development. Interestingly, this trade-off was not alleviated by higher food abundance, as periphyton biomass had negligible effect on chemical defense. Even more surprisingly, we found no evidence that higher predation risk enhances chemical defenses, suggesting that low predictability of predation risk and high mortality cost of low toxicity might select for constitutive expression of chemical defense irrespective of the actual level of predation risk. Our findings highlight that the variation in chemical defense may be influenced by environmental heterogeneity in both the need for, and constraints on, toxicity as predicted by optimal defense theory. 相似文献

The cylinder test, developed from the microdroplet test, was adapted to assess the interfacial adhesion strength between fiber and matrix. The sensitivity of cylinder test to pull-out speed and specimen geometry was measured. It was established that the effect of test speed can be described as a superposition of two opposite, simultaneous effects which have been modeled mathematically by fitting two parameter Weibull curves on the measured data. Effects of the cylinder size and its geometrical relation on the measured strength values have been analyzed by finite element method. It was concluded that the geometry has a direct influence on the stress formation. Inhibiting the histone H3–ASF1 (anti-silencing function 1) protein–protein interaction (PPI) represents a potential approach for treating numerous cancers. As an α-helix-mediated PPI, constraining the key histone H3 helix (residues 118–135) is a strategy through which chemical probes might be elaborated to test this hypothesis. In this work, variant H3118–135 peptides bearing pentenylglycine residues at the i and i+4 positions were constrained by olefin metathesis. Biophysical analyses revealed that promotion of a bioactive helical conformation depends on the position at which the constraint is introduced, but that the potency of binding towards ASF1 is unaffected by the constraint and instead that enthalpy–entropy compensation occurs. 相似文献

Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and in situ extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) studies were performed to investigate Pt-Co/NaY and Pt-Co/Al2O3 bimetallic catalysts. The EXAFS experiments were carried out at the Pt LIII and Co K edges of the same sample. This particular approach allows a precise determination of the electronic and structural characteristics of the metallic part of the catalyst. For both systems in situ reduction under pure H2 results in the formation of nanometer-scale metallic clusters. For both Co and Pt, nearest neighbors are Co atoms. The complete set of parameters implies the presence of two families of nanometer-scale metallic clusters: monometallic Co nanosized particles and Pt-Co bimetallic clusters, in which only Pt-Co bonds exist (no Pt-Pt bonds). TPR and XPS results indicating a reduction of Co2+ ions in Pt-Co/NaY to a greater extent than in Pt-Co/Al2O3 give evidence of a facilitated reduction. XRD also shows the presence of nanometer-scale particles with only a very small fraction of larger bimetallic particles. In subsequent mild oxidation of the reduced systems the Co nanoparticles are still present inside the supercage of NaY zeolite in bimetallic form and the oxidation of the metallic particles is slowed down. Au and Ti/Au layers were deposited on n-GaN. The samples were annealed at 400, 700 and 900 °C for 10 min in vacuum. The contacts were rectifying up to 700 °C and the highest Schottky barrier height of 1.07 eV was obtained for an Au single layer by current-voltage measurements. A binary phase of Au2Ga was identified at the interface of the n-GaN/Ti/Au contact after annealing at 900 °C. The formation of Ti2N and TiN (twin) phases epitaxially grown on GaN was also observed in the same contact as well as some gold diffusion into the topmost region of the GaN epilayer. 相似文献
