Kawasaki disease is known to cause a vasculitis of small and medium-sized vessels, with subsequent aneurysm formation. Most of the severe manifestations of the disease occur as a result of coronary aneurysm formation. However, many other arteries have been documented to be involved. A case is presented of a middle-aged man with a history of Kawasaki disease who had an acute ischemic limb from a thrombosed popliteal aneurysm that formed as a result of the disease. This is the first known case report of Kawasaki disease resulting in delayed lower extremity ischemia. Typical findings of patients with Kawasaki disease are presented, along with a case report and review of the literature. A history of Kawasaki disease is an extremely rare but possible cause of peripheral aneurysms, even in middle-aged patients. 相似文献

A liquid chromatographic method is described for the determination of biogenic amines found in dry sausages: tryptamine, phenylethylamine, putrescine, cadaverine, histamine, serotonin, tyramine, spermidine, and spermine. Amines were extracted with perchloric acid solution and derivatized with dansyl chloride. After derivatization, ammonia was added to remove an interfering peak near cadaverine. Liquid chromatographic separations were performed by using a Spherisorb ODS2 column and an ammonium acetate-acetonitrile gradient elution program. The limits of determination of the individual amines were 1-5 mg/kg. This method is also applicable to detection of amines in other food samples. 相似文献

Historically, long coronary artery stenoses undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) are reported to have reduced procedural and clinical success in comparison with shorter lesions. The efficacy of long balloons (30 or 40 mm) in long lesions was evaluated. Eighty-two patients had 84 PTCA procedures with a primary long balloon. In all, 86 lesions were available for analysis. Data were collected prospectively on standard PTCA procedure forms. Coronary angiograms were reviewed and measured with digital calipers. Hospital charts were examined for complications. PTCA was performed in the left anterior descending artery in 44 cases (51%), the right coronary artery in 29 (34%) and the circumflex artery in 13 (15%). With the use of a modified classification system, 47 lesions (55%) were class C, 24 (28%) were class B2 and 15 (17%) were class B1. Mean lesion length was 22 +/- 11 mm (range 10 to 72), and 38 lesions (44%) were > or = 20 mm. Twelve patients received an intracoronary stent. The long balloon alone produced angiographic success (< 50% residual stenosis) in 77 lesions (90%). Angiographic success was achieved ultimately in all stenoses, using a stent in 7 patients and a short balloon in 2. There were 2 deaths (2%) and 1 Q-wave myocardial infarction (1%). One patient needed coronary artery bypass surgery. Clinical success without death, Q-wave infarction or bypass surgery was achieved in 83 of 86 procedures (97%). In conclusion, the use of long PTCA balloons with adjuvant stenting produced excellent results in these long stenoses. Lesion length was not a precursor of poor angiographic or clinical outcome. 相似文献

In the present study the effects of intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) and intrahippocampal administration of corticosteroid antagonists on basal hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) activity around the diurnal peak were compared in male Wistar rats. In two separate experiments the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) antagonist RU 38486 and the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) antagonist RU 28318 were tested. One hour after GR antagonist injection, significant increases in plasma ACTH and corticosterone levels were observed in the i.c.v. treated rats, when compared to vehicle. In contrast, a significant decrease in ACTH levels, and a slight, but non-significant decrease in corticosterone concentrations were attained one hour after intrahippocampal injection of the GR antagonist. Injection of the MR antagonist, on the other hand, resulted in enhanced ACTH and corticosterone levels irrespective of the site of injection. These findings suggest that negative feedback inhibition at the circadian peak involves hippocampal MRs and extrahippocampal (hypothalamic) GRs. The latter feedback inhibition overrides a positive feedback influence exerted by endogenous corticosteroids through hippocampal GRs. 相似文献

Many poor-risk neuroblastomas and tumours of the Ewing's sarcoma family (ET) recur despite autologous transplants. Recurrence may be due to tumor cells contained in the BM harvests or PBSC harvests. The objectives of this prospective study were to: (1) determine the incidence and degree of tumor cell contamination in paired BM and PBSC harvests; and (2) determine the efficacy of tumor cell purging by immunomagnetic CD34+ cell selection. 198 samples from 11 consecutive patients with neuroblastoma or Ewing's sarcoma were analyzed. We assayed tumor contamination by RT-PCR assay for PGP 9.5, plus immunohistochemistry for neuroblastoma-specific antigens (the latter in neuroblastoma only). None of these patients had tumor cells detected in their BM by clinical histology immediately before BM or PBSC harvests. However, 82% of PBSC and 89% of backup BM harvests were contaminated with tumor by RT-PCR and/or immunocytochemistry assays. Unselected PBSC and BM harvests contained similar quantities of tumor cells (median, approximately 200000 cells). Cyclophosphamide plus G-CSF mobilization did not affect the incidence or level of contamination in PBSC harvests, as compared to blood obtained before mobilization. Immunomagnetic CD34+ cell selection depleted tumor cells by a median of 3.0 logs for PBSC, and 2.6 logs for BM harvests. 相似文献

To explore the relationship between the processing of melodic and rhythmic patterns in speech and music, we tested the prosodic and musical discrimination abilities of two "amusic" subjects who suffered from music perception deficits secondary to bilateral brain damage. Prosodic discrimination was assessed with sentence pairs where members of a pair differed by intonation or rhythm, and musical discrimination was tested using musical-phrase pairs derived from the prosody of the sentence pairs. This novel technique was chosen to make task demands as comparable as possible across domains. One amusic subject showed good performance on both linguistic and musical discrimination tasks, while the other had difficulty with both tasks. In both subjects, level of performance was statistically similar across domains, suggesting shared neural resource for prosody and music. Further tests suggested that prosody and music may overlap in the processes used to maintain auditory patterns in working memory. 相似文献

A retrospective survey of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in the recovery room over a five year period was conducted, followed by a prospective study of 200 adult patients to estimate the incidence and predisposing factors to nausea and vomiting during the first 24 hours after anaesthesia and surgery in Nigerians. In the retrospective study only records of 61 patients (0.79%) out of the 7714 post anaesthetic recovery room charts reviewed revealed documentation of vomiting. These were 20 males (32.8%) and 41 females (67.2%). In the prospective study, the incidence of post operative nausea and vomiting within twenty four hours of surgery was 41.6% and 19.6%, respectively. But only two out of 39 patients (one per cent) vomited within the first three hours in postoperative period. The frequency of vomiting varied from one to 15 times and women had significantly more emetic symptoms than men (p < 0.05). Preoperative administration of pethidine and morphine was associated with postoperative nausea and vomiting. It is suggested that Nigerian women should be considered for prophylactic anti-emetic therapy, especially when narcotic analgesic are to be employed in their anaesthetic management. 相似文献

Phenanthrene- and naphthalene-degrading bacteria were isolated from four offshore and nearshore locations in the Gulf of Mexico by using a modified most-probable-number technique. The concentrations of these bacteria ranged from 10(2) to 10(6) cells per ml of wet surficial sediment in mildly contaminated and noncontaminated sediments. A total of 23 strains of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-degrading bacteria were obtained. Based on partial 16S ribosomal DNA sequences and phenotypic characteristics, these 23 strains are members of the genus Cycloclasticus. Three representatives were chosen for a complete phylogenetic analysis, which confirmed the close relationship of these isolates to type strain Cycloclasticus pugetii PS-1, which was isolated from Puget Sound. PAH substrate utilization tests which included high-molecular-weight PAHs revealed that these isolates had similar, broad substrate ranges which included naphthalene, substituted naphthalenes, phenanthrene, biphenyl, anthracene, acenaphthene, and fluorene. Degradation of pyrene and fluoranthene occurred only when the strains were incubated with phenanthrene. Two distinct partial PAH dioxygenase iron sulfur protein (ISP) gene sequences were PCR amplified from Puget Sound and Gulf of Mexico Cycloclasticus strains. Phylogenetic analyses of these sequences revealed that one ISP type is related to the bph type of ISP sequences, while the other ISP type is related to the nah type of ISP sequences. The predicted ISP amino acid sequences for the Gulf of Mexico and Puget Sound strains are identical, which supports the hypothesis that these geographically separated isolates are closely related phylogentically. Cycloclasticus species appear to be numerically important and widespread PAH-degrading bacteria in both Puget Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. 相似文献

To investigate possible involvement of the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases ERK1 and ERK2 (extracellular signal-regulated kinases) in somatic cell mitosis, we have used indirect immunofluorescence with a highly specific phospho-MAP kinase antibody and found that a portion of the active MAP kinase is localized at kinetochores, asters, and the midbody during mitosis. Although the aster labeling was constant from the time of nuclear envelope breakdown, the kinetochore labeling first appeared at early prometaphase, started to fade during chromosome congression, and then disappeared at midanaphase. At telophase, active MAP kinase localized at the midbody. Based on colocalization and the presence of a MAP kinase consensus phosphorylation site, we identified the kinetochore motor protein CENP-E as a candidate mitotic substrate for MAP kinase. CENP-E was phosphorylated in vitro by MAP kinase on sites that are known to regulate its interactions with microtubules and was found to associate in vivo preferentially with the active MAP kinase during mitosis. Therefore, the presence of active MAP kinase at specific mitotic structures and its interaction with CENP-E suggest that MAP kinase could play a role in mitosis at least in part by altering the ability of CENP-E to mediate interactions between chromosomes and microtubules. 相似文献
