The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effects of cigarette smoking and serum lipids, folate, and vitamin B12 on the development of lung cancer in the Turkish population. The study group consisted of patients with histologically proven lung cancer and the control group comprised healthy smokers being followed in our smoking cessation outpatient department. Smoking history was obtained from all subjects and serum total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, vitamin B12, and folate levels were measured. Pack/years of cigarettes smoked were significantly higher in the subjects with lung cancer than in the control group (p < 0.01). Serum total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglyceride, serum folate, and vitamin B12 levels were within normal limits in both groups (p < 0.05), but serum vitamin B12 levels were statistically significantly higher (p < 0.01) in the cancer group than in the controls. In our study, we did not observe low levels of serum cholesterol, vitamin B12, or folate in the lung cancer patients.  相似文献

The on-line sensing of viable cell weight in plant cell culture process is applied to analysis and control of process. The fiber-optic fluorescence sensor was constructed to measure the NADH-dependent fluorescence inNicotiana tabacum plant cell culture and the analysis of fluorescence signal was done to be correlated with the viable cell weight. The structured kinetic model for cell growth was proposed to estimate the theoretical viable cell weight. The dimensional analysis was proposed for the interpretation of fluorescence signal, in which the path length, the inner filter effect and the hydrodynamic conditions were considered as the key factors on fluorescence signal. The dimensional analysis and empirical correlation of fluorescence signal to viable cell weight was applied to the interpretation of the detected fluorescence signal during cultivation. The proposed interpretation of fluorescence signal using dimensional analysis was well correlated with the viable cell weight estimated by the structured kinetic model as well as by empirical correlation.  相似文献

Four biochemically distinct DNA ligases have been identified in mammalian cells. One of these enzymes, DNA ligase I, is functionally homologous to the DNA ligase encoded by the Saccharomyces cerevisiae CDC9 gene. Cdc9 DNA ligase has been assumed to be the only species of DNA ligase in this organism. In the present study we have identified a second DNA ligase activity in mitotic extracts of S. cerevisiae with chromatographic properties different from Cdc9 DNA ligase, which is the major DNA joining activity. This minor DNA joining activity, which contributes 5-10% of the total cellular DNA joining activity, forms a 90 kDa enzyme-adenylate intermediate which, unlike the Cdc9 enzyme-adenylate intermediate, reacts with an oligo (pdT)/poly (rA) substrate. The levels of the minor DNA joining activity are not altered by mutation or by overexpression of the CDC9 gene. Furthermore, the 90 kDa polypeptide is not recognized by a Cdc9 antiserum. Since this minor species does not appear to be a modified form of Cdc9 DNA ligase, it has been designated as S. cerevisiae DNA ligase II. Based on the similarities in polynucleotide substrate specificity, this enzyme may be the functional homolog of mammalian DNA ligase III or IV.  相似文献

A quantitative method to evaluate the degree of whisker alignment in axisymmetric composite materials was developed. The angular distribution of the whiskers was analyzed by measuring the aspect ratios of the whiskers observed on a planar section. However, due to the large difference in the probability of whiskers being detected on the planar section (depending on whisker length and degree of alignment), the angular distribution of the whiskers observed on the planar section was significantly different from the actual distributions of the whiskers in three dimensions. Three-dimensional angular distributions were evaluated by comparing the aspect ratios observed on the planar section with those calculated under the assumption that the whisker angle fell in a Gaussian distribution with average angle of 90°. By this method, the degree of preferential alignment is expressed as the standard deviation of the Gaussian distribution. This quantification of whisker alignment is useful in analyzing the mechanical behaviors of composite materials reinforced with elongated particles.  相似文献

Influence of grain size on mechanical properties and dry oscillating sliding wear of Al2O3-ceramics Specimens with average grain sizes varying between about 0.8 μm and 12 μm were produced by cold isostatic pressing of high purity Al2O3-powder followed by sintering between 1300°C and 1700°C. Hardness, Young's modulus, bending strength and fracture toughness were measured as a function of average grain sizes. Tribological tests were carried out on the different microstructures at normal laboratory air and room temperature by using a ring-on-block tribometer. Experimental results showed the dependence of mechanical properties on grain size, hardness and bending strength obeying a Hall-Petch type relation, approximately. Coefficient of friction was relatively independent of grain size under the test conditions used. However, wear intensity increased substantially if a critical grain size was surpassed. This was due to a change in mechanisms of material removal which was confirmed by scanning electron microscopical studies of the worn surfaces.  相似文献

An efficient algorithm detecting the presence of a fetal QRS complex is presented. The proposed fetal QRS detection method computes the averaged magnitude of the difference between the fetal ECG signal and the reference signal to detect the fetal QRS event. The detected fetal QRS complexes are exponentially averaged to generate the template signal which can track the slowly varying shape of the fetal ECG signal. As an effort to obtain improved detection performances, two approaches of normalizing the fetal ECG signal and the template are considered.  相似文献

Disagreement exists in the literature concerting the activity of NiO in (Ni,Mg)O solid solutions. Ideal behavior, as well as strong positive deviations and strong negative deviations from ideality, has been reported. In the present study, the activity of NiO was determined by electromotive force measurements using the solid-state cell Pt/Ni-NiO/0.92ZrO2-0.08Y2O3/Ni-(Ni,Mg)O/Pt. The compositions studied had NiO mole fractions of 0.1,0.3,0.5,0.7, and 0.9. In agreement with theoretical expectations, the solid solutions exhibited ideal behavior at 882° and 982°C. Possible reasons for the conflicting results in the literature arc presented.  相似文献

 Experimental studies on the aerodynamic coupling effect on natural frequencies and flutter instability of rotating disks are investigated in this paper. The experiments performed using a vacuum chamber and optical disks give two main results. One is that the aerodynamic effect by surrounding air reduces the natural frequencies and critical speeds of the vibration modes in pre-flutter regions. The other is that the natural frequency of the disk rotating at ambient atmospheric pressure is equal to that in vacuum at the flutter onset speed where the disk experiences aero-induced flutter. In post-flutter regions, the aerodynamic coupling between the disk and surrounding air increases the natural frequencies of the disk.
