The gastric brushings (GBRs) and endoscopic biopsies obtained concurrently from 27 patients in whom malignant lymphoma was diagnosed or suggested by either modality were assessed to evaluate the utility of cytologic examination in the diagnosis of gastric lymphoma. GBRs provided a definitive diagnosis of lymphoma in 2 (28%) of 7 patients with a prior history of lymphoma and 10 (56%) of 18 patients with primary gastric lymphoma, yielding an overall sensitivity of 48%. All the lymphomas diagnosed cytologically were large cell type. GBRs were suspicious for a malignant neoplasm in four lymphoma patients whose concurrent biopsies were negative. GBRs obtained from two patients who had gastritis were reported as suspicious for lymphoma. There were no false-positive diagnoses.  相似文献

Functional maxillofacial rehabilitation following tumor ablation depends on many variables. These include the magnitude of hard or soft tissue defects, the use of adjunctive chemotherapy or radiation therapy, and the presence of underlying systemic disease. The physiologic effects of tumor ablation and radiation therapy on local tissues and grafted bone are discussed in this article in relation to the ultimate use of implant supported prostheses. The purpose of this work was to develop a method for measurement of the major forms of resistant starch (RS) in foods. The analytical procedure was chosen to mimic physiologic conditions, and included chewing as a prestep before incubation with pepsin, pancreatin and amyloglucosidase. The undigestible polysaccharides, including RS, were recovered by ethanol precipitation and subsequent filtration. RS was analyzed as total starch in the filter residue. The residues were also used for gravimetric determination of dietary fiber after correcting for remaining protein, ash and RS. The potentially available starch fraction was determined from analysis of glucose in the filtrate. The foods included were prepared to resemble products for which RS figures were available from in vivo measurements, and/or from analysis with other current in vitro methods. For six of these foods, and for three additional starchy materials, RS figures were compared with in vivo and/or in vitro data for identical products. The pooled standard deviation for the suggested RS method was 2.9%. A high correlation was obtained with in vivo figures from the literature for 19 realistic foods (r = 0.97; y = 0.77x + 0.45). After correction for RS, dietary fiber figures corresponded well with conventional gravimetric dietary fiber analysis for 14 starchy foods (r = 0.97). It is concluded that the procedure described here provides a convenient way to estimate RS content of realistic foods, allowing parallel determination of the potentially available starch fraction and dietary fiber.  相似文献

AG337 (Thymitaq) is an antitumor compound synthesized by Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., using protein structure-based drug design. AG337 is a hydrochloride salt with a molecular formula of C14H12N4OS.2HCl. This compound was subjected to thermal analyses, Karl Fischer titrimetry, powder X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, and FTIR. On the basis of the Karl Fischer and thermogravimetric analysis, it was conclude to be a dihydrate. The differential scanning calorimetric studies revealed, that on heating, AG337 dehydrates and form a metastable form with a melting point of 213 degrees C followed by crystallization into a stable form at 261 degrees C. This stable form was finally melted at 312 degrees C with decomposition. On the basis of the FTIR and HPLC studies, it was concluded that the final exothermic peak at 320 degrees C was due to sample decomposition. The powder X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the existence of these two polymorphs of AG337. Scanning electron microscopic studies revealed that the crystal habits of both the polymorphs were quite different. FTIR spectra of both the polymorphs showed pronounced difference in the range of 600-1800 cm-1.  相似文献

To understand the clinical efficacy of traditional anti-rheumatic herbal medicines on acute and severe arthritis or immune diseases, four herbal formulas and one herb were tested in vitro to determine their effects on prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and interleukin 2 (IL2). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from healthy subjects were incubated with different concentrations of four herbal formulas including Shaur Yau Gan Tsao Tang (SYGTT), Shang Jong Shiah Tong Yong Tong Feng Wan (SJSTY), Shu Jin Lih An Saan (SJLAS), Ma Shing Yih Gan Tang (MSYGT) and one herb, Tripterygium wilfordii (T2) with and without mitogen stimulation. PGE2 and IL2 from culture supernatant were measured by enzyme immunoassay. The results showed that SYGTT, SJSTY, SJLAS at concentration of 100 microg and MSYGT at 500 microg/ml can significantly inhibit PGE2 release (P < 0.05) from mononuclear cells. However, T2 at 2 microg/ml expressed the same response. For the inhibition of IL2, the concentration of SYGTT, SJSTY and SJLAS must exceed 100 symbol microg/ml. MSYGT failed to inhibit IL2 at even concentrations of 500 microg/ml but T2 at a very low concentration (0.6 microg/ml) could strongly inhibit it. The findings suggest that the majority of traditional anti-rheumatic herbal formulas or herbs, except for T2, should not be used to treat acute and critical arthritis or immune diseases.  相似文献
