In previous studies, asphaltenes and resins have been treated as two distinct fractions of a crude oil. The asphaltenes were assumed to be the only self‐associating fraction. However, there is evidence that resins also participate in this self‐association. In this study, molar masses of mixtures of asphaltenes and resins were measured with vapour pressure osmometry. Precipitation from the same mixtures dispersed in solutions of toluene and pentane were also measured. The data were modelled with previously developed self‐association and precipitation models. Model results with asphaltenes and resins characterized as a single distribution and as individual components are compared. The data and the modelling suggest that asphaltenes and resins are better characterized as a single distribution of self‐associating components. 相似文献

Evaluation has been performed of compensators generated by means of a computerized three-dimensional treatment planning system that can utilize either digitized slice profiles or CT scans. Two methods of calculating compensator thickness are used: the modified Batho power law (dSAR) method for digitized profiles and the equivalent TAR (eqTAR) method for CT scans. This system not only compensates for patient surface contours but also compensates for internal inhomogeneities. In addition, any required wedging will be incorporated in the compensator generation. This system has been tested for a number of extreme cases with inhomogeneities and sloping contours. Good agreement was obtained between the measured and computer calculated dose profiles especially along the central axis of the beam. A "Profile Uniformity Index" was defined to quantify the goodness of dose compensation in three dimensions. Compensation using this system can achieve good dose uniformity within the target volume in all clinical cases and is definitely an improvement over systems based solely on tissue deficit. 相似文献

Attenuation correction is an important part of accurate image reconstruction in positron tomography. The usual correction method involves direct measurement of attenuation correction factors (ACFs). A reconstruct-reproject method, which has been suggested as providing superior noise properties, is sometimes employed; an attenuation image is first reconstructed from the measurement and then ACFs are obtained by reprojection through this image. Here the authors present a model which follows the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) through the attenuation correction by both the direct and reconstruct-reproject methods. This model is applicable to both 2D and 3D imaging geometry, but applies to the central elements of emission and transmission objects with circular symmetry and constant amplitude. For this simplified geometry, the model predicts that the SNR of the emission image following attenuation correction is the same for both direct and reconstruct-reproject methods, although the SNRs of the ACFs are themselves substantially different. The authors also present the measured SNR at the various steps of attenuation correction for both the direct and reconstruct-reproject methods using simulated transmission and emission data. The measured SNRs agree with the model; no significant difference between the direct and reconstruct-reproject SNRs was observed. 相似文献

The motionless-head parallel-readout optical-disk system is designed to read out two-dimensional bit planes that are stored as one-dimensional Fourier-transform computer-generated holograms distributed radially on the disk active surface. Such a system, when built at full scale, could offer several potential advantages: high data-transfer rates of 1 Gbyte/s and higher, low access times of less than 15 ms, low retrieval times (the time required to read the entire memory) of less than 25 ms, and simple optical implementation. Residual surface roughness over the entire range of relevant spatial frequencies must be specified and controlled in many high-performance optical systems. This is particularly true for enhanced reflectance multilayers if both high reflectance and high spatial resolution are desired. If we assume that the interfaces making up a multilayer coating are uncorrelated at high spatial frequencies (microroughness) and perfectly correlated at low spatial and midspatial frequencies, then the multilayer can be thought of as a surface power spectral density (PSD) filter function. Multilayer coatings thus behave as a low-pass spatial frequency filter acting on the substrate PSD, with the exact location and shape of this cutoff being material and process dependent. This concept allows us to apply conventional linear systems techniques to the evaluation of image quality and to the derivation of optical fabrication tolerances for applications utilizing enhanced reflectance x-ray multilayers. 相似文献

A large percentage of older Americans are at risk for malnutrition. This puts them at risk for premature institutionalization, creating a financial burden. The objective of this survey was to determine the nutritional health of clients receiving home delivered meals in Lake County, Indiana and the impact that home delivered meals had on them. Nutrition Screening Initiative (NSI) Determine Your Nutritional Health Checklists were mailed to recipients of meals; 58.3% were returned. Twenty-eight percent were found to be at no nutritional risk, 39% at moderate nutritional risk and 33% at high nutritional risk. One-hundred-thirty clients that scored three or more on the "Checklist" were visited by a Registered Dietitian for further screening using the NSI Level I Screen. This screen found many nutritional problems but the fact that the clients did receive home delivered meals decreased the risk. It was determined by the author that 68% of these clients could not function in their own homes without home delivered meals. 相似文献

Monocytes/macrophages (M/M) and CD4+ T cells are two important targets of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Different strains of HIV-1 vary markedly in their abilities to infect cells belonging to the M/M lineage. Macrophagetropic (M-tropic) HIV-1 strains replicate well in primary lymphocytes as well as in primary macrophages; however, they generally infect T-cell lines poorly, if at all. Although promonocytic cell lines such as U937 have been used as in vitro models of HIV-1 infection of M/M, these cell lines are susceptible to certain T-cell-tropic (T-tropic) HIV-1 strains but are resistant to M-tropic HIV-1. In this study, we demonstrate that (i) certain U937 clones ("plus" clones), which are susceptible only to T-tropic HIV-1, become highly susceptible to M-tropic HIV-1 upon differentiation with retinoic acid (RA); (ii) other U937 clones ("minus" clones), which are resistant to both T- and M-tropic HIV-1, remain resistant to both viruses; and (iii) RA treatment induces expression of CCR5, a fusion/entry cofactor for M-tropic HIV-1 in both types of U937 clones, and yet enhances the fusogenicity of the plus clones, but not the minus clones, with M-tropic Env's. These results indicate that the major restriction of M-tropic HIV-1 infection in promonocytic cells occurs at the fusion/entry level, that differentiation into macrophage-like phenotypes renders some of these cells highly susceptible to infection with M-tropic HIV-1, and that CD4 and CCR5 may not be the only determinants of fusion/entry of M-tropic HIV-1 in these cells. 相似文献

A photorefractive beam splitter (PRBS) is introduced as an alternative to a polarizing beam splitter (PBS) for coupling optical power into reflective modulators in a free-space optical interconnection system. The PRBS uses a single diffraction grating recorded in a photorefractive material to redirect the incident laser light into the first diffraction order and onto the modulators. Reflected interconnection light not matching the Bragg angle criteria transmits uncoupled through the beam splitter. Experimental results show that the PRBS provides better, more uniform transmission for off-axis beams than the currently used PBS. 相似文献
