Warpage of various semicrystalline polyethylenes (linear low density polyethylene [LLDPE]) has been investigated under typical rotational molding conditions, which means slow cooling from only one side. We have developed an experimental technique that is able to quickly rate different materials with respect to warpage under typical process conditions. We have also developed a numerical model simulating the experiments assuming a thermoelastic material including crystallization. As has been observed in practical rotational molding, it has been found in both experiments and simulations that materials with high crystallinity have in general higher warpage. The simulations also showed that the crystallization kinetics has implications on the warpage because the crystallinity gradient during solidification depends on the rate of crystallization. POLYM. Oil from the marine copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, which contains >86 % of fatty acids present as wax esters, is a novel source of n‐3 fatty acids for human consumption. In a randomized, two‐period crossover study, 18 healthy adults consumed 8 capsules providing 4 g of Calanus® Oil supplying a total of 260 mg EPA and 156 mg DHA primarily as wax esters, or 1 capsule of Lovaza® providing 465 mg EPA and 375 mg DHA as ethyl esters, each with an EPA‐ and DHA‐free breakfast. Plasma EPA and DHA were measured over a 72 h period (t = 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h). The positive incremental area under the curve over the 72 h test period (iAUC0‐72 h) for both EPA and DHA was significantly different from zero (p < 0.0001) in both test conditions, with similar findings for the iAUC0–24 h and iAUC0–48 h, indicating the fatty acids were absorbed. There was no difference in the plasma iAUC0–72 h for EPA + DHA, or DHA individually, in response to Calanus Oil vs the ethyl ester condition; however, the iAUC0–48 h and iAUC0–72 h for plasma EPA in response to Calanus Oil were both significantly increased relative to the ethyl ester condition (iAUC0–48 h: 381 ± 31 vs 259 ± 39 μg*h/mL, p = 0.026; iAUC0‐72 h: 514 ± 47 vs 313 ± 49 μg*h/mL, p = 0.009). These data demonstrate a novel wax ester rich marine oil is a suitable alternative source of EPA and DHA for human consumption.  相似文献

The properties of polypropylene (PP) mixed with masterbatch (MB) and liquid color concentrates (LCC), respectively, were compared by preparing samples of PP with MB and PP with LCC and neat PP as a reference material using 1–4 extrusion cycles. Two colors were examined, i.e., a white color consisting of pigment white 6, and a green color consisting of pigment white 6, pigment blue 15:3, and pigment green 7. The color difference between PP prepared with MB and LCC was determined and the mechanical, rheological, and crystalline properties of PP prepared with MB and LCC were found to be generic. The color of PP obtained from MB and LCC were comparable. Further, it was found that the tensile strength, the viscosity, and the crystal structure obtained were similar when using LCC instead of MB. The viscosity of the treated PP generally decreased with increasing extruder retention time due to thermal degradation. When freshly etched samples of various types of copper were exposed in moderately acid, aerated chloride solutions, two phenomena were observed. First the corrosion potential and the pH of the solution decreased over a shorter time, then the potential increased over a long period (600-1500 min), following an s-shaped pattern. Increase in pH during the second stage was avoided using a pH-stat. The corrosion rate increased little or not at all over the entire period. A tentative interpretation of the short-term behaviour is presented with some reservation. The long-term development of the potential suggests phase formation or transformation following the Avrami pattern. By suitable derivations it was possible to fit the development of potentials to the Avrami equation. Subsequent examinations by Auger spectroscopy proved the presence of thin layers of Cu2O on the copper surfaces, increasing in thickness with exposure time. The dissolution kinetics can be described in terms of two parallel electrochemical reactions and a simultaneous non-electrochemical dissolution reaction.  相似文献

ATR, a DNA damage signaling kinase, is required for cell cycle checkpoint regulation and detecting DNA damage caused by genotoxic factors including Al3+ ions. We analyzed the function of the HvATR gene in response to chemical clastogen-maleic acid hydrazide (MH). For this purpose, the Al-tolerant barley TILLING mutant hvatr.g was used. We described the effects of MH on the nuclear genome of hvatr.g mutant and its WT parent cv. “Sebastian”, showing that the genotoxic effect measured by TUNEL test and frequency of cells with micronuclei was much stronger in hvatr.g than in WT. MH caused a significant decrease in the mitotic activity of root cells in both genotypes, however this effect was significantly stronger in “Sebastian”. The impact of MH on the roots cell cycle, analyzed using flow cytometry, showed no differences between the mutant and WT.  相似文献

Protein expression and localization are often studied in vivo by tagging molecules with green fluorescent protein (GFP), yet subtle changes in protein levels are not easily detected. To develop a sensitive in vivo method to amplify fluorescence signals and allow cell‐specific quantification of protein abundance changes, we sought to apply an enzyme‐activated cellular fluorescence system in vivo by delivering ester‐masked fluorophores to Caenorhabditis elegans neurons expressing porcine liver esterase (PLE). To aid uptake into sensory neuron membranes, we synthesized two novel fluorogenic hydrolase substrates with long hydrocarbon tails. Recombinant PLE activated these fluorophores in vitro. In vivo activation occurred in sensory neurons, along with potent activation in intestinal lysosomes quantifiable by imaging and microplate and partially attributable to gut esterase 1 (GES‐1) activity. These data demonstrate the promise of biorthogonal hydrolases and their fluorogenic substrates as in vivo neuronal imaging tools and for characterizing endogenous C. elegans hydrolase substrate specificities.  相似文献

Purpose

To examine the effect of betaine supplementation on cycling sprint performance.

Methods

Sixteen recreationally active subjects (7 females and 9 males) completed three sprint tests, each consisting of four 12 sec efforts against a resistance equal to 5.5% of body weight; efforts were separated by 2.5 min of cycling at zero resistance. Test one established baseline; test two and three were preceded by seven days of daily consumption of 591 ml of a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage as a placebo or a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage containing 0.42% betaine (approximately 2.5 grams of betaine a day); half the beverage was consumed in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. We used a double blind random order cross-over design; there was a 3 wk washout between trials two and three. Average and maximum peak and mean power were analyzed with one-way repeated measures ANOVA and, where indicated, a Student Newman-Keuls.

Results

Compared to baseline, betaine ingestion increased average peak power (6.4%; p < 0.001), maximum peak power (5.7%; p < 0.001), average mean power (5.4%; p = 0.004), and maximum mean power (4.4%; p = 0.004) for all subjects combined. Compared to placebo, betaine ingestion significantly increased average peak power (3.4%; p = 0.026), maximum peak power max (3.8%; p = 0.007), average mean power (3.3%; p = 0.034), and maximum mean power (3.5%; p = 0.011) for all subjects combined. There were no differences between the placebo and baseline trials.

Conclusions

One week of betaine ingestion improved cycling sprint power in recreationally active males and females.  相似文献

Iron oxide nanoparticles have found widespread applications in different areas including cell separation, drug delivery and as contrast agents. Due to water insolubility and stability issues, nanoparticles utilized for biological applications require coatings such as the commonly employed polyethylene glycol (PEG). Despite its frequent use, the influence of PEG coatings on the physicochemical and biological properties of iron nanoparticles has hitherto not been studied in detail. To address this, we studied the effect of 333-20,000 Da PEG coatings that resulted in larger hydrodynamic size, lower surface charge, longer circulation half-life, and lower uptake in macrophage cells when the particles were coated with high molecular weight (M(w)) PEG molecules. By use of magnetic resonance imaging, we show coating-dependent in vivo uptake in murine tumors with an optimal coating M(w) of 10,000 Da.  相似文献

Metastable tetragonal ZrO2 phase has been observed in ZrO2–SiO2 binary oxides prepared by the sol–gel method. There are many studies concerning the causes of ZrO2 tetragonal stabilization in binary oxides such as Y3O2–ZrO2, MgO–ZrO2, or CaO–ZrO2. In these binary oxides, oxygen vacancies cause changes or defects in the ZrO2 lattice parameters, which are responsible for tetragonal stabilization. Since oxygen vacancies are not expected in ZrO2–SiO2 binary oxides, tetragonal stabilization should just be due to the difficulty of zirconia particles growing in the silica matrix. Furthermore, changes in the tetragonal ZrO2 crystalline lattice parameters of these binary oxides have recently been reported in a previous paper. The changes of the zirconia crystalline lattice parameters must result from the chemical interactions at the silica–zirconia interface (e.g., formation of Si–O–Zr bonds or Si–O groups). In this paper, FT-IR and 29Si NMR spectroscopy have been used to elucidate whether the presence of Si–O–Zr or Si–O is responsible for tetragonal phase stabilization. Moreover, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy have also been used to study the crystalline characteristics of the samples.  相似文献
