In male Syrian hamsters, short days induce regression of the reproductive system, but eventually spontaneous recrudescence occurs ensuing from refractoriness to the inhibitory photoperiod. Although the photoperiod of 12 L:12 D (12 h light:12 h dark) may act like a short day by inducing the testicular cycle outlined above, it may fail to evoke the increase of circulating concentrations of prolactin that accompanies testicular recrudescence. This photoperiod may fail to induce photorefractoriness, as indicated by the prolonged low concentrations of prolactin in the blood. Herein, hamsters were exposed to either 8 L:16 D or 12 L:12 D from weaning and by 28 weeks exposure to either photoperiod, the hamsters had large testes following recrudescence from a photoperiod induced-regression). Transfer to 8 L:16 D from 12 L:12 D at 28 weeks resulted in a second testicular regression and recrudescence. In a second experiment, the testes of hamsters moved to 8 L:16 D from 12 L:12 D after 29 weeks exposure to the latter photoperiod similarly regressed and then regrew. Serum concentrations of prolactin decreased in these males after transfer to the shorter daylength but also decreased in hamsters kept under 12 L:12 D both groups were usually below those of hamsters moved to 14 L:10 D. These results show that exposure for 28 or 29 weeks to 12 L:12 D was insufficient to induce photorefractoriness, despite the recrudescence of the testes following involution.  相似文献

Artificial illumination is an important factor in the management of layers. In this study, a new monochromatic light system was developed for egg layers. Prelaying pullets (Lohmann) were marked and housed in nine light and temperature control rooms (15 battery cages, 3 hens per cage; n = 45), divided into three light treatments: 0.1 and 0.01 W/m2 light intensity using light emitting diode (LED) lamps and 0.1 W/m2 using mini-fluorescent bulbs (PL) (control). In each of the LED rooms, three wavelengths were tested: 560 (n = 9), 660 (n = 9), 880 (n = 6), and 660 intermitted lighting (15 min light 45 min dark, 660IN) (n = 9). Birds were exposed to 12 h light and 12 h of darkness using PL lamps. At 21 wk of age, the light period was increased to 12.75 h by using 5.5 h of LED lamps and 7.25 of PL light source for Groups 1 and 2, the third group received 12.75 h of PL light. Until 28 wk of age, light hours increased by 0.5 h/w using LED light for Groups 1 and 2 and PL source for the third group, reaching 16 h of light at 28 wk of age. Egg production and feed consumption were recorded daily; egg components were recorded weekly for 10 mo. A significant reduction in egg production was observed in all 880nm groups; no differences in egg production and quality were found in the other groups. Feed consumption was significantly lower by 7% in all 0.01 W/m2 groups. We suggest that an important reduction in rearing costs of laying hens may be obtained by using this system.  相似文献

A case of an isolated tuberculous abscess of the liver in a 47-years-old woman with a 2-year history of disease is presented. Only 17 similar cases have been reported previously in the literature. The symptomatology of this patient, confused initially with a chronic calculous cholecystitis and then with an hepatic pyogenic abscess exemplify what has been described for this rare disease presentation. Hyperthyroidism is a common endocrinologic disorder affecting many organ systems. Musculoskeletal and neurological involvement present themselves as fatigue, muscle weakness and paralysis. Electromyography (EMG) is essential for differential diagnosis of muscle weakness. Well defined neuropathy and myopathy have been described in these patients. In the present study 17 hyperthyroid patients were evaluated with electrophysiological tests in addition to physical and neurological examinations and biochemical laboratory studies. Needle EMG, motor and sensory conduction velocities, median and tibial somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) were studied. For assessment of the activity of disease clinical status, neurological symptom and disability scores and serum T3, T4 and TSH levels were examined. Statistical analysis of neuroelectrophysiological findings of the patient and the control groups yielded meaningful difference in the needle EMG, sensory conduction velocity and evoked potential findings. Abnormalities were observed in 80% of the proximal muscles besides polyphasic potentials that were seen in 20% of the extensor digitorum brevis muscle. Median, ulnar and sural nerve sensory action potential amplitudes were found to be lower than that of the control group. Sural sensory nerve conduction velocity of patients was decreased in 35.5%, prolongation of median SEP latencies and increase in the amplitudes were not however statistically significant. Prolongation of Tibial SEP N1, P2 latencies were seen in 47%, amplitudes of N1 were increased in 88.2%, P2 in 58.8%, N2 in 47%. The thyroid clinical status score was correlated with Tibial SEPs amplitude. These findings suggest the presence of an initial axonal type of mild polyneuropathy. As a conclusion electrophysiological studies can be useful in the diagnosis of asymptomatic polyneuropathy in hyperthyroid patients.  相似文献

The gas phase synthesis of MTBE was studied using three series of zeolites modified by ion-exchange with ammonium fluoride, the parent materials being HY, H-mordenite, and HZSM-5. Modification of zeolites by fluoride-exchange was found to enhance the MTBE synthesis activity for all three types of zeolites without impairing their excellent selectivity to MTBE. The mechanism of activity enhancement by fluoride-modification appears to be related to the formation of extra-lattice Al rather than the presence of fluoride-ions.  相似文献

In this paper we present an identification algorithm for a class of continuous-time hybrid systems. In such systems, both continuous-time and discrete-time dynamics are involved. We apply the expectation-maximisation algorithm to obtain the maximum likelihood estimate of the parameters of a discrete-time model expressed in incremental form. The main advantage of this approach is that the continuous-time parameters can directly be recovered. The technique is particularly well suited to fast-sampling rates. As an application, we focus on a standard identification problem in power electronics. In this field, our proposed algorithm is of importance since accurate modelling of power converters is required in high- performance applications and for fault diagnosis. As an illustrative example, and to verify the performance of our proposed algorithm, we apply our results to a flying capacitor multicell converter.  相似文献

PURPOSE: After catheterization, 42% to 100% of central venous catheters are surrounded by a "fibrin sleeve." This sleeve has been considered the cause of catheter-related infections, withdrawal occlusion, and pulmonary embolism. The reactions between the vein wall and the catheter were studied. METHODS: A silicone catheter was placed in the anterior caval vein of 123 rats. After in situ fixation at scheduled intervals, the pathologic changes were studied on semi-serial histologic sections by means of light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In 36 rats, the catheter was withdrawn immediately; in 72 rats, it was left in situ up to 6 months; and in 15 rats, the study was performed up to 10 months after withdrawal of a catheter that had remained in situ for 6 months. RESULTS: In the group in which the catheter was withdrawn immediately, mural thrombi disappeared by day 7. In the group in which the catheter remained in situ, thrombi remained around the proximal portion of the catheter. This pericatheter thrombosis (PCT) was invaded by migrating and proliferating smooth muscle cells (SMCs), originating from an injured vein wall, and transformed from day 7 into a tissue composed predominantly of SMCs and collagen and covered by endothelial cells. Later, the number of cells decreased, and the relative amount of collagen increased. Up to 10 months after withdrawal of the catheter, the collapsed sleeve was still present within the vein. CONCLUSION: The sleeve around a central venous catheter is not a fibrin sleeve, but a stable cellular-collagen tissue covered by endothelium. It is mainly formed by smooth muscle cells migrating from the injured vein wall into the early pericatheter thrombus.  相似文献
