In the present study the Top Ten NSAIDs are investigated with the aid of molecular modelling methods. Conformational analyses are performed, electronic and lipophilic properties are examined and correlated with the antiinflammatory effectivity of the respective compounds.

With more than 2000 wound care products on the market, choosing an appropriate dressing for the geriatric patient can prove to be a difficult task. Age-related changes in skin structure and decreased resistance to noxious stimuli in the environment place the elderly patient at higher risk for wound complications. Understanding the principles of moist wound healing and how dressing materials can be used to promote healing outcomes gives the clinician a foundation upon which to base treatment decisions. Assigning products to generic dressing categories further facilitates dressing selection, allowing the treatment protocol to be individualized to the patient, the wound, and the setting.     

Antiplasmodial triterpene from Vernonia brasiliana

The hexane extract from leaves of Vernonia brasiliana (L.) Druce (Compositae) was active in vitro against Plasmodium falciparum and in vivo in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. This extract was subjected to a bioassay-guided fractionation protocol based on the in vitro model. Lupeol was identified as a compound responsible for the activity, inhibiting the P.falciparum growth by 45% when tested at 25 micrograms/ml. However, this triterpene was inactive in vivo when 15 mg/kg were administered per os during four consecutive days to mice infected with P.berghei. beta-Amyrin and germanicol, isolated from the same fraction that yielded lupeol, were inactive in the in vitro assay.     

Distribution of median nerve to muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm

Distribution of the median nerve in the arm is not normally subjected to variation. This report represents a case of complete absence of the musculocutaneous nerve from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus. The innervation of the muscles of the anterior (flexor) compartment of the arm was by direct branches from the median nerve. This variation was present in both the right and left limbs.     

Mediastinitis due to Mycobacterium fortuitum infection following Fontan operation in a child

Here we report a case of mediastinitis due to Mycobacterium fortuitum infection in a child after a Fontan operation. To our knowledge this is the first report of atypical mycobacterial mediastinal infection after congenital heart surgery. Atypical mycobacteria can be the cause of "culture negative" sternal and thoracotomy wound infections. A brief review of the literature is included in the discussion.     

Bit Impact Factor: Towards making fair vulnerability comparison

Reliability is becoming a major design concern in contemporary microprocessors since soft error rate is increasing due to technology scaling. Therefore, design time system vulnerability estimation is of paramount importance. Architectural Vulnerability Factor (AVF) is an early vulnerability estimation methodology. However, AVF considers that the value of a bit in a clock cycle is either required for Architecturally Correct Execution (i.e. ACE-bit) or not (i.e. unACE-bit); therefore, AVF cannot distinguish the vulnerability impact level of an ACE-bit. In this study, we present a new dimension which takes into account the vulnerability impact level of a bit. We introduce Bit Impact Factor metric which, we believe, will be helpful for extending AVF evaluation to provide a more accurate vulnerability analysis.     

Dissolved gas method of generating bubbles for potential use in ore flotation

Production and use of dissolved air bubbles were investigated with the purpose of improving the recovery of fine particles in ore flotation processes.The rate and extent of air dissolution were studied under different conditions of pressure, temperature, liquid volume, and gas-solid contact. The process of bubble formation by pressure release was also examined. Assessments made through dissolved oxygen measurements indicated that dissolution of air and the release of dissolved air could be achieved within a 1-minute period. Flotation tests carried out on a ?37 μm magnetite ore sample demonstrated superior results with dissolved gas bubbles compared to conventional bubbles.     

Electrical and Photoresponse Properties of Al/p-Si/Y 1-x Sr x MnO 3 /Al Heterojunction Photodiodes

The electrical and photoresponse properties of Al/p-Si/Y1-xSrxMnO3/Al diodes were investigated by using current-voltage and transient photocurrent measurements. The average ideality factor and barrier height has been calculated as 4.2568 and 0.613 eV respectively. The calculated ideality factor for Al/p-Si/Y1-xSrxMnO3/Al diodes is higher than unity because of the interface states, native oxide layer and series resistance. Also, diodes have exhibited property of photosensitivity. These indicated that the fabrication of diodes can be used optoelectronic device applications.
