There are concerns about workers repeatedly exposed to magnetic fields exceeding regulatory limits with respect to modern magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). As a result, there is need for an ambulatory magnetic field dosimeter capable of measuring these fields in and around an MRI scanner in order to evaluate the regulatory guidelines and determine any underlying exposure risks. This study presents results of tri-axial measurements using an ambulatory magnetic field dosimeter worn by workers during normal working shifts. We recorded and analyzed magnetic field exposures in and around 1.5 T, 2 T, and 4 T magnets during routine patient procedures. The data was integrated and averaged over time and evaluated against the latest exposure standards. Time-varying magnetic fields occur when individuals move through spatially non-uniform static magnetic fields or during gradient-pulsed magnetic fields or a combination of both. Our previous numerical analysis shows that at certain positions surrounding the MRI scanner ends, such fields may induce current densities and electric fields that may exceed the relevant EU, ICNIRP, and IEEE standards. A high-speed acquisition version of the dosimeter measured gradient- pulsed fields at positions accessible by MRI workers near the scanner ends, and the results were evaluated and compared against the numerical simulations and the standards. Our measurements confirm that workers can be exposed to magnetic fields exceeding the guidelines at positions near the gradient coil ends during clinical imaging and a high degree of correlation exists with the numerical results. While the time-weighted average magnetic field exposures in 1.5 T, 2 T, and 4 T were all within the regulatory limits during static magnetic field measurements, the peak limits for the head can be exceeded in some circumstances. This study presents a small number of routine shifts of data that provide indicative results of magnetic field exposure in real situations.  相似文献

Symbol detection in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication systems using different particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms is presented. This approach is particularly attractive as particle swarm intelligence is well suited for real-time applications, where low complexity and fast convergence is of absolute importance. While an optimal maximum likelihood (ML) detection using an exhaustive search method is prohibitively complex, PSO-assisted MIMO detection algorithms give near-optimal bit error rate (BER) performance with a significant reduction in ML complexity. The simulation results show that the proposed detectors give an acceptable BER performance and computational complexity trade-off in comparison with ML detection. These detection techniques show promising results for MIMO systems using high-order modulation schemes and more transmitting antennas where conventional ML detector becomes computationally non-practical to use. This paper presents a biconjugate gradient (BiCG) method that can significantly improve the performance of the quasi-static finite-difference scheme, which has been widely used to model field induction phenomena in voxel phantoms. The proposed BiCG method offers remarkable computational advantages in terms of convergence performance and memory consumption over the conventional iterative, successive overrelaxation algorithm. The scheme has been validated against other known solutions on a lossy, multilayered ellipsoid phantom excited by an ideal coil loop. The wide application capability and computational performance of the BiCG method is demonstrated by modeling the exposure of MRI healthcare workers to fields produced by pulsed field gradients. This is an important topic of research in light of the Physical Agents Directive 2004/40/EC because a variety of realistic operator postures near the bore entrance of an MRI system are modeled.  相似文献

Biodiesel was developed from an unconventional feedstock, i.e. an equivalent blend of castor bean and waste chicken oil through the alkaline-catalyzed transesterification with methanol. The process variables including the alkaline catalyst concentration, methanol to oil molar ratio, reaction temperature, reaction time, and the alkaline catalyst type were investigated. The highest yield of biodiesel (97.20 % ~ 96.98 % w/w ester content) was obtained under optimum conditions of 0.75 % w/w of oil, 8:1 methanol to oil molar ratio, 60°C temperature, and a duration of 30 min. Properties of the produced biodiesel satisfied those specified by the ASTM standards. The results thus indicated that the suggested blend oils are suitable feedstock for the production of biodiesel. The process was found to follow pseudo first-order kinetics, and the activation energy was found to be 8.85 KJ/mole.  相似文献

The paper reports the phenolic, anthocyanin, and volatile compounds and sensory characteristics of 12 cultivars of sweet cherries including cvs. Belge, Bing, Dalbasti, Durona di Cesena, Lambert, Merton Late, Starks Gold, Summit, Sweetheart, Van, Vista, and 0–900 Ziraat. Eight individual phenolic compounds were determined by the HPLC‐DAD method. Among these cherries, cvs. Bing, Durona di Cesena, and Lambert contained higher levels of total individual phenolic compounds than the other cultivars. Six anthocyanins were detected in cherries and cyanidin‐3‐O‐rutinoside was principal and it was the highest level in cv. Bing. The major volatiles found were 1‐hexanol, (E)‐2‐hexen‐1‐ol, benzylalcohol, hexenal, (E)‐2‐hexenal, and benzaldehyde. Sensory evaluation of the cherries showed that cvs. Belge, Bing, Dalbasti, and Summit have higher textural and flavor scores than others. It was concluded that the same compounds for phenolic or volatiles profiles of sweet cherries were similar in qualitative; however, quantitative differences were observed in these cultivars.  相似文献

The interest in energy storage systems is increasing, since it provides an excellent solution to store the low-cost excess energy from the energy sources, which are available at peak demand hours. This paper presents a new compressed-air storage system that combines ambient air and hydraulic oil, in order to store energy in compressed-air form and benefit from the advantages of both pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The process consists of charging and discharging cycles, however, this paper investigates the discharging cycle, where a new technique of Small-Scale Compressed Air Energy Storage (SS-CAES) system is realised. The new idea in RC-CAHES is to obtain higher efficiency in energy conversion machines during charging and discharging processes with numerous advantages over conventional types of energy storage systems. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of this technique by proving that it has higher efficiency than a similar Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) systems.  相似文献

Flat-sheet membranes were fabricated by incorporating alumina (Al2O3) and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs; MWCNTs-COOH) in PVDF-co-HFP membrane via the phase-inversion method for application in membrane distillation (MD) application. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were performed on the resulting membranes to investigate the effects of functionalized MWCNTs. The results revealed that the embedding of functionalized MWCNTs led to a significant modification of the membrane characteristics, including the structural morphology, thickness, roughness, porosity, pore size, and pore size distribution. The effects of operational parameters such as the hot feed solution temperature (47–67?°C), feed flow rate (0.35–0.55?L/min), and feed concentration (0–100?g/L) on the performance of the fabricated membrane were tested using the DCMD system. The experimental results demonstrated that the permeate flux was enhanced by approximately 32.43% by using functionalized MWCNTs, reaching a value of 16.35?kg/m2 h at 35?g/L feed concentration, 67?°C hot feed temperature, and 0.55?L/min feed flow rate, at the constant temperature of 20?°C and 0.35?L/min flow rate. The functionalized MWCNTs embedded within the membrane successfully modified the interactions between water and the membrane to improve the water vapor transport while inhibiting salt penetration into the pores.  相似文献

Procoagulant extracellular vesicles (EV) and platelet activation have been associated with gestational vascular complications. EV-induced platelet-mediated placental inflammasome activation has been shown to cause preeclampsia-like symptoms in mice. However, the effect of EV-mediated placental thrombo-inflammation on trophoblast differentiation remains unknown. Here, we identify that the EV-induced thrombo-inflammatory pathway modulates trophoblast morphology and differentiation. EVs and platelets reduce syncytiotrophoblast differentiation while increasing giant trophoblast and spongiotrophoblast including the glycogen-rich cells. These effects are platelet-dependent and mediated by the NLRP3 inflammasome. In humans, inflammasome activation was negatively correlated with trophoblast differentiation marker GCM1 and positively correlated with blood pressure. These data identify a crucial role of EV-induced placental thrombo-inflammation on altering trophoblast differentiation and suggest platelet activation or inflammasome activation as a therapeutic target in order to achieve successful placentation.  相似文献
