Recently, biodiesel has become more attractive since it is made from renewable resources and also for the fact that the resources of fossil fuels are diminishing day by day. This study compares combustion of B5, B10, B20, B50, B80 and B100 with petroleum diesel over wide input air flows at two energy levels in an experimental boiler. The comparison is made in terms of combustion efficiency and flue gas emissions (CO, CO2, NOX, and SO2) and influence of air flow at two energy levels 219 kJ/h and 249 kJ/h is studied. The findings show that at higher level energy diesel efficiency was a little higher than that of biodiesel, but at lower level biodiesels are efficient than diesel. Except B10, Biodiesel and other blends emitted less pollutant CO, SO2 and CO2 than diesel. B10 emitted lower CO2 and NOX, but emitted higher SO2 than diesel. Despite studies reporting an increase in the NOX level resulting from burning of biodiesel over conventional petroleum diesel fuels in engines, our findings indicated at the second energy level a reduction in the NOX level in the flue gases resulting from burning of biodiesel. 相似文献

Cogeneration units which produce both heat and electric power are found in many process industries. These industries also consume heat directly in addition to electricity. The cogeneration units operate only within a feasible zone. Each point within the feasible zone consists of a specific value of heat and electric power. These units are used along with other units which produce either heat or power exclusively. Hence the economic dispatch problem for these plants optimizing the fuel cost is quite complex and several classical and meta-heuristic algorithms have been proposed earlier. This paper applies the invasive weed optimization algorithm which is inspired by the ecological process of weed colonization and distribution. The results obtained have been compared with those obtained by other methods earlier and showed a marked improvement over earlier ones. 相似文献

Over the past few years, the presence of steroid estrogens in the environment has become a major concern. In this study, the concentrations of estrone(E1), 17β-estradiol(E2), and 17α-ethinyl estradiol(EE2) were measured in some wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. These samples were collected from the municipal, rural,livestock, commercial, and hospital WWTPs, extracted by dispersive liquid–liquid micro extraction(DLLME)technique, derivatized, and detected by GC/MS. In these treatment plants, various processes including conventional activated sludge(CAS), aerated lagoon(AL), moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR), and activated sludge with wetland(AS + WL) are used. The highest concentration of hormones was observed in the influents and effluents of livestock, municipal, commercial, and hospital WWTPs, respectively. The maximum elimination rate was obtained in MBBR followed by AS + WL, CAS and AL. The biodegradation and adsorption rates along with adsorption coefficients of lg kdand lg kocwere measured for all target compounds. 相似文献

The buoyancy‐induced turbulent flows in complex geometries with internal heat source have important application in enclosure fire dynamics, for example, smoke movement in the situation of fire in tunnels. The majority of computational works studying the fire‐induced hot air movement in such cases use a Cartesian coordinate system. Hence, to simulate curved geometries, the Cartesian grid should be refined so that it comparatively matches the geometry. In the present work, a three‐dimensional numerical method using nonorthogonal curvilinear coordinate system was developed. Numerical simulations were performed to study the flow structures and the heat transfer characteristics of fire‐induced buoyant flow and the effects of using curvilinear coordinates on the result's accuracy and the computational cost. Numerical results were compared with the available experimental data and the results obtained by fire dynamics simulator (FDS) software. Stabilizing sand with cement is considered to be one of the most cost-effective and useful methods of in-situ soil improvement, and the effectiveness is often assessed using unconfined compressive tests. In certain cases, zeolite and cement blends have been used; however, even though this is a fundamental issue that affects the settlement response of a soil, very few attempts have been made to assess the stress-strain behaviour of the improved soil. Also, the majority of previous studies that predicted the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of zeolite cemented sand did not examine the effect of the soil improvement variables and strain concurrently. Therefore, in this paper, an initiative is taken to predict the relationships for the stress-strain behaviour of cemented and zeolite-cemented sand. The analysis is based on using the unconfined compression test results and Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) type Neural Network (NN). To achieve this end, 216 stress-strain diagrams resulting from unconfined compression tests for different cement and zeolite contents, relative densities, and curing times are collected and modelled via GMDH type NN. In order to increase the accuracy of the predictions, the parameters associated with successive stress and strain increments are considered. The results show that the suggested two and three hidden layer models appropriately characterise the stress-strain variations to produce accurate results. Moreover, the UCS values derived from this method are much more accurate than those provided in previous approaches. Moreover, the UCS values derived from this method are much more accurate than those provided in previous approaches which simply proposed the UCS values based on the content of the chemical binders, compaction, and/or curing time, not considering the relationship between stress and strain. Finally, GMDH models can be considered to be a powerful method to determine the mechanical properties of a soil including the stress-strain relationships. The other novelty of the work is that the accuracy of the prediction of the strain-stress behaviour of zeolite-cement-sand samples using the GMDH models is much higher than that of the other models. 相似文献

Polyurethane was prepared from hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI) and polycaprolactone diol (PCL) with stoichiometry ratio of two in a reactor to form prepolymer. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) at PVA/prepolymer ratios of 8, 4, 2 and 1 was crosslinked with the former degradable polyester polyurethane. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) was employed to confirm polyurethane formation during the course of reactions. FTIR spectrum revealed bands at 1729–1733 cm? 1 and 3347–3340 cm? 1 which indicates carbonyl and NH of amine groups, respectively. Polyurethane formation was also confirmed by the absence of the isocyanate peaks (NCO) at 2270 cm? 1. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) showed that by increasing prepolymer concentration glass transition temperature decreases from 26 °C for PVA to 19 °C for sample with PVA/prepolymer ratio of 4 and then it rises up to 31 °C. Water uptake measurements illustrated about four fold reduction in swelling ratio of PVA after crosslinking and the sample with equal amounts of PVA and PPU had water uptake of 100%, close to that of a natural cartilage and much less than PVA (425%). All samples had compressive modulus in the range of the articular cartilage (1.9–14.4 MPa). The morphology of the isolated cells on the samples was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and revealed cell attachment and proliferation. The cell viability (3-4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, MTT) and GAG expression (dimethylmethylene blue, DMMB) assays with human chondrocytes on the sample with PVA/prepolymer ratio of one showed about 14 and 33% increase in cell viability and GAG expression after 14 days of culture compare to the PVA, respectively. 相似文献

Effect of wall proximity on forced convection in a plane channel with a built-in triangular cylinder

A numerical investigation has been carried out to analyze the effect of wall proximity of a triangular cylinder on the heat transfer and flow field in a horizontal channel. Computations have been carried out for Reynolds numbers (based on triangle width) range of 100–450 and gap widths (a/h) 0.5, 0.75 and 1. Results are presented in the form of instantaneous contours of temperature, vorticity, with some characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer; such as time-averaged and instantaneous local Nusselt number, skin friction coefficient along bottom channel's wall, and drag coefficient. Results show that approaching triangular cylinder in the wall, removes vortex shedding and subsequently the heat transfer rate decreases at low Reynolds number. By decreasing the vortex shedding, drag coefficient decrease as triangular cylinder approaches the wall of the channel. The variation of vortex formation has a more significant suppression effect on the skin friction coefficient than the Nusselt number. 相似文献

We present a novel queuing analytical framework for the performance evaluation of a distributed and energy-aware medium access control (MAC) protocol for wireless packet data networks with service differentiation. Specifically, we consider a node (both buffer-limited and energy-limited) in the network with two different types of traffic, namely, high-priority and low-priority traffic, and model the node as a MAP (Markovian arrival process)/PH (phase-type)/1/K nonpreemptive priority queue. The MAC layer in the node is modeled as a server and a vacation queuing model is used to model the sleep and wakeup mechanism of the server. We study standard exhaustive and number-limited exhaustive vacation models both in multiple vacation case. A setup time for the head-of-line packet in the queue is considered, which abstracts the contention and the back-off mechanism of the MAC protocol in the node. A nonideal wireless channel model is also considered, which enables us to investigate the effects of packet transmission errors on the performance behavior of the system. After obtaining the stationary distribution of the system using the matrix-geometric method, we study the performance indices, such as packet dropping probability, access delay, and queue length distribution, for high-priority packets as well as the energy saving factor at the node. Taking into account the bursty traffic arrival (modeled as MAP) and, therefore, the nonsaturation case for the queuing analysis of the MAC protocol, using phase-type distribution for both the service and the vacation processes, and combining the priority queuing model with the vacation queuing model make the analysis very general and comprehensive. Typical numerical results obtained from the analytical model are presented and validated by extensive simulations.
