We analyzed two nitro musks (musk xylene and musk ketone) and five polycyclic musks (HHCB, AHTN, ADBI, ATII, and AHDI) in mother's milk from primiparae women (N = 101) living in Uppsala County, Sweden, 1996-2003. Possible temporal trends in musk concentrations and associations with lifestyle/medical factors, such as use of perfumed products during pregnancy were studied. HHCB showed the highest median concentration (63.9 ng/g lipid) followed by AHTN (10.4 ng/g) and musk xylene (MX) (9.5 ng/g). Concentrations of the other substances were, in most cases, below the quantification limit (2.0-3.0 ng/g). Women with a high use of perfume during pregnancy had elevated milk concentrations of HHCB, and elevated concentrations of AHTN were observed among women reporting use of perfumed laundry detergent. This strongly suggests that perfumed products are important sources of musk exposure both among the mothers and the nursed infants. Concentrations of AHTN and MX declined significantly between 1996 and 2003, suggesting a decline in the industrial use of the compounds in consumer products, or alterations in the consumer use pattern of perfumed products. No temporal trend in HHCB concentrations was seen. The lack of toxicity data makes it difficult to generalize about the safety of musk exposure of breast-fed infants.  相似文献

In this study we estimate the effects of climate change on forest production in north-central Sweden, as well as the potential climate change mitigation feedback effects of the resulting increased carbon stock and forest product use. Our results show that an average regional temperature rise of 4 °C over the next 100 years may increase annual forest production by 33% and potential annual harvest by 32%, compared to a reference case without climate change. This increased biomass production, if used to substitute fossil fuels and energy-intensive materials, can result in a significant net carbon emission reduction. We find that carbon stock in forest biomass, forest soils, and wood products also increase, but this effect is less significant than biomass substitution. A total net reduction in carbon emissions of up to 104 Tg of carbon can occur over 100 years, depending on harvest level and reference fossil fuel.  相似文献

Combined heat and power (CHP) plants with thermal stores may be suitable for sustainable energy production and the accommodation of fluctuating renewable energy sources. At the moment, in the UK, only a few CHP plants have thermal stores. Previous research has shown that thermal stores can improve the economics of CHP plants in the UK under the current market conditions. However, currently, it is only beneficial for CHP plants to sell their electricity to a third party, a Licensed Electricity Supplier, rather than to sell it directly to the power exchange market at prices which are much higher. If CHP plants aggregate, direct access to the power exchange market can become economically viable hence there is the possibility that thermal stores could further improve the economics of CHP plants under an aggregated electricity dispatch. This work firstly explains the conditions under which such plants could aggregate and act as a large power plant in the UK market, and secondly explores the most economic-size of gas engine and thermal store, in the case of aggregation, using energyPRO software and Excel spreadsheets. The work suggests that direct access to the power exchange market can improve the economics of the CHP plants. The highest Net Present Value (NPV), without heat dissipation, for a CHP plant exporting its electricity to the grid for a community heating load of 20 GW h, is more than £5 m, and is obtained for a 6 MW engine with a 28.2 MW h (900 m3) thermal store. The research suggests that such high electricity prices could make even larger plants more profitable than that; however, this can happen only if some of the produced heat is dissipated.  相似文献

Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is a novel technology that can be used to meet growing demands on energy production without CO2 emissions. The CLC process includes two reactors, an air and a fuel reactor. Between these two reactors oxygen is transported by an oxygen carrier, which most often is a metal oxide. This arrangement prevents mixing of N2 from the air with CO2 from the combustion giving combustion gases that consist almost entirely of CO2 and H2O. The technique reduces the energy penalty that normally arises from the separation of CO2 from other flue gases, hence, CLC could make capture of CO2 cheaper. For the application of CLC to solid fuels, the char remaining after devolatilization will react indirectly with the oxygen carrier via steam gasification. It has been suggested that H2, and possibly CO, has an inhibiting effect on steam gasification in CLC. In this work experiments were conducted to investigate this effect. The experiments were conducted in a laboratory fluidized-bed reactor that was operating cyclically with alternating oxidation and reduction periods. Two different oxygen carriers were used as well as an inert sand bed. During the reducing period varying concentrations of CO or H2 were used together with steam while the oxidation was conducted with 10% O2 in N2. The temperature was constant at 970 °C for all experiments. The results show that CO does not directly inhibit the gasification whereas the partial pressure of H2 had a significant influence on fuel conversion. The results also suggest that dissociative hydrogen adsorption is the predominant hydrogen inhibition mechanism under the laboratory conditions, thus explaining why char conversion is much faster in a bed of oxygen carrying material, compared to an inert sand bed.  相似文献

Biomass ash, generated during the thermal chemical conversion of biomass for energy production, is an industrial by-product which is often recognized as a solid waste, but there are some useful elements in the biomass ash such as phosphorus, etc. So through some technology and methods, the biomass ash can be transferred into a useful resource. The paper mainly includes the following aspects: biomass ash composition characteristics, biomass thermal chemical conversion for phosphorus and phosphorus recovery technology from biomass ash. Through these aspects literature review, not only the whole biomass ash characteristics was made clear, but also we think that the idea of phosphorus from biomass ash is feasible, especially for some high phosphorus ash such as sludge ash, meat and bone meal (MBM) ash, etc. So the review about phosphorus from the biomass ash is very important practical significance for biomass energy, biomass ash disposal and phosphorus resource.  相似文献

The physiological condition of the live animal was found to significantly affect colour, lipid oxidation and water holding capacity of chill stored pork chops (M. Longissimus dorsi) in a study, where various pre-slaughter conditions were achieved by the following four treatments: (A) control; (B) subjected to treadmill exercise immediately prior to stunning; (C) given epinephrine injection 15 h prior to slaughter; and (D) given epinephrine injection 15 h before slaughter and further subjected to treadmill exercise immediately before stunning. The treatments resulted in variations in energy metabolites (glycogen, lactate, creatine phosphate, ATP) and ultimate pH (pHu), with the lowest pHu in chops from treatments A and B, and in significantly different tristimulus colour L*-, a*- and b*-parameters, although the effect of treatment on colour was not consistent during the chill storage period of 6 days. Overall, chops from treatments A and B had significantly higher L*- and b*-values (were paler and less blue) than chops from C and D during storage under conditions typical for retail trade. The initial a*-values were higher (redder) in chops from treatments A and B, but the colour, as judged by the a*-values, was less stable in meat from these treatments compared with treatments C and D. Lipid oxidation, evaluated by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the fresh meat, and drip loss, measured after 6 days of storage, were both significantly higher in chops from treatments A and B compared to chops obtained from treatments C and D. Statistical analysis relating the pH and the level of various energy metabolites post-mortem in the individual animals to the measured quality parameters, revealed that pHu was the most important factor affecting product quality. In conclusion, over all product quality depends on obtaining a pHu in the narrow range where both meat quality parameters such as colour, lipid oxidation and drip loss as well as microbiological aspects have to be considered.  相似文献

Unannounced evacuation experiments in a cinema theatre were analysed. The analysis focused on investigating if people are influenced by others during the initial phase of a fire evacuation. This type of influence is called social influence. Three separate behaviour types were identified and studied and the recognition and pre-movement time was measured. The results suggest that social influence is an important factor and that it becomes more important when the fire cue, e.g., the alarm, is unclear or uninformative. Results also indicate that social influence increases with decreasing distance between visitors. This result implies that individuals are influenced more by people who are close than by people who are further away.  相似文献

A report is presented on GaAs/(Al,Ga)As terahertz (THz) quantum-cascade lasers (QCLs) based on alternating photon and longitudinal optical (LO) phonon-assisted transitions between quasi-minibands. The design is optimised for low threshold current densities and low operating voltages, resulting in reduced ohmic heating during continuous-wave (CW) operation. The QCLs exhibit lasing over a broad range of frequencies from 2.91 to 3.21 THz. Using single-plasmon waveguides, pulsed operation up to 114 K and CW operation up to 65 K has been achieved.  相似文献

Plant fibre composites contain typically a relatively large amount of porosity which influences their performance. A model, based on a modified rule of mixtures, is presented to include the influence of porosity on the composite stiffness. The model integrates the volumetric composition of the composites with their mechanical properties. The fibre weight fraction is used as an independent parameter to calculate the complete volumetric composition. A maximum obtainable stiffness of the composites is calculated at a certain transition fibre weight fraction, which is characterised by a best possible combination of high fibre volume fraction and low porosity. The model is validated with experimental data from the literature on several types of composites. A stiffness diagram is presented to demonstrate that the calculations can be used for tailoring and design of composites with a given profile of properties.  相似文献
