The high demand for wireless Internet connectivity has driven the development of highly efficient radio link technologies. However, their performance can be compromised by inadvertent interactions with the higher-layer TCP flow control protocol. Maximizing the performance of wireless links requires that mechanisms operating at every layer of the protocol stack interact efficiently. This article provides a brief tutorial of some of these radio link enhancements. It then outlines how higher-layer flow control protocols should behave, and provides techniques for taming the behavior of TCP, to ensure that the performance of lower-layer enhancements is not compromised. 相似文献

A fast, accurate and fully automatic method of segmenting magnetic resonance images of the human brain is introduced. The approach scales well allowing fast segmentations of fine resolution images. The approach is based on modifications of the soft clustering algorithm, fuzzy c-means, that enable it to scale to large data sets. Two types of modifications to create incremental versions of fuzzy c-means are discussed. They are much faster when compared to fuzzy c-means for medium to extremely large data sets because they work on successive subsets of the data. They are comparable in quality to application of fuzzy c-means to all of the data. The clustering algorithms coupled with inhomogeneity correction and smoothing are used to create a framework for automatically segmenting magnetic resonance images of the human brain. The framework is applied to a set of normal human brain volumes acquired from different magnetic resonance scanners using different head coils, acquisition parameters and field strengths. Results are compared to those from two widely used magnetic resonance image segmentation programs, Statistical Parametric Mapping and the FMRIB Software Library (FSL). The development of nanostructured microcapsules based on a biomimetic lipid bilayer membrane (BLM) coating of poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS)/poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) polyelectrolyte hollow microcapsules is reported. A novel engineered ion channel, gramicidin (bis‐gA), incorporated into the lipid membrane coating provides a functional capability to control transport across the microcapsule wall. The microcapsules provide transport and permeation for drug‐analog neutral species, as well as positively and negatively charged ionic species. This controlled transport can be tuned for selective release biomimetically by controlling the gating of incorporated bis‐gA ion channels. The convenience of injectable hydrogels that can provide high loading of diverse phototherapy agents and further long-time retention at the tumor site has attracted tremendous interest in simultaneous photothermal and photodynamic cancer therapies. However, to incorporate the phototherapy agents into hydrogels, complex modifications are generally unavoidable. Moreover, these phototherapy agents usually suffer from low efficiency and work at different irradiation wavelengths outside the near infrared windows. Hence, a method for the fabrication of an injectable hydrogel for simultaneous photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy, through the Schiff-base reaction between amido modified carbon dots (NCDs) and aldehyde modified cellulose nanocrystals is proposed. The NCDs act as both phototherapy agents and crosslinkers to form hydrogels. Significantly, the NCDs demonstrate an extremely high photothermal conversion efficiency of 77.6% which is among the highest levels for photothermal agents and a high singlet quantum yield of 0.37 under a single 660 nm light-emitting diode irradiation. The hydrogels are examined through in vitro and in vivo animal experiments which show nontoxic and effectively tumor inhibition. Thus, the strategy of direct reaction of phototherapy agents and the matrix not only provides new strategies for injectable hydrogel fabrication but paves a new road for advanced tumor treatment. 相似文献

The paper introduces a novel detection and tracking system that provides both frame-view and world-coordinate human location
information, based on video from multiple synchronized and calibrated cameras with overlapping fields of view. The system
is developed and evaluated for the specific scenario of a seminar lecturer presenting in front of an audience inside a “smart
room”, its aim being to track the lecturer’s head centroid in the three-dimensional (3D) space and also yield two-dimensional
(2D) face information in the available camera views. The proposed approach is primarily based on a statistical appearance
model of human faces by means of well-known AdaBoost-like face detectors, extended to address the head pose variation observed
in the smart room scenario of interest. The appearance module is complemented by two novel components and assisted by a simple
tracking drift detection mechanism. The first component of interest is the initialization module, which employs a spatio-temporal
dynamic programming approach with appropriate penalty functions to obtain optimal 3D location hypotheses. The second is an
adaptive subspace learning based 2D tracking scheme with a novel forgetting mechanism, introduced to reduce tracking drift
and increase robustness. System performance is benchmarked on an extensive database of realistic human interaction in the
lecture smart room scenario, collected as part of the European integrated project “CHIL”. The system consistently achieves
excellent tracking precision, with a 3D mean tracking error of less than 16 cm, and is demonstrated to outperform four alternative
tracking schemes. Furthermore, the proposed system performs relatively well in detecting frontal and near-frontal faces in
the available frame views.

Complex-valued Gaussian distributions occur frequently in signal processing. We derive a simple statistic, independent of any complex-valued correlation, for testing for the equality of variances using a sample drawn from such a bivariate distribution. The percentage points of the distribution are easy to compute. The power of the test is determined and shown to be high even for very small sample sizes when the variables are highly correlated. Wireless networking and group communication in combination allows groups of dispersed mobile users to collaborate. This paper presents AGENT, a medium access control (MAC) protocol that unifies point-to-point and multi-point transmission services to facilitate group communication in ad hoc networks. Analysis and experiments performed in a simulated ad hoc network demonstrate that AGENT exhibits reliable and stable performance with high spatial bandwidth reuse. Moreover, variation in the proportion of point-to-point and multi-point traffic is shown to have little impact on the overall performance of AGENT. Some of the most important material systems, GaInN alloys and quantum dot structures create interesting and complex challenges for structural analysis. This paper concentrates on the interpretation of the microstructure of both these materials, the former to assess the defect separation and the latter to obtain the shape and composition of the quantum dots. The methods used are based on mapping the X-ray intensity in reciprocal space and simulating proposed models to achieve good agreement with the experimental results. An indication of the reliability of these methods is presented.The simulation of the 0002 reciprocal space map of a 0 0 0 1 orientated InGaN/GaN sample yielded a range of dimensions of the perfect regions between defects of 60 and 220 μm. This comes from careful fitting of the tails of the scattering parallel to the surface plane. The average composition within an InGaAs quantum dot has been determined to a reliability of ±3% and the dimensions of these buried dots evaluated from simulating the reciprocal space maps using the in-plane scattering geometry. 相似文献
