Polymer nanocomposite composed of polypyrrole, chitosan, and zinc oxide nanoparticles has been synthesized and it has been evaluated for various electrochemical aspects of the current electrochemical industry. The polypyrrole (PPy) was synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization reaction by employing ammonium persulfate as oxidizing agent. Composites of polypyrrole/chitosan (PPy/Chy) and polypyrrole/chitosan/ZnO (PCZ) composites were synthesized by the solution blending method. Detailed structural, morphological, thermal characterization of PPy, PPy/Chy, and PCZ were performed to characterize the specific features of the systems. The composites exhibit better thermal stability and high surface area and the addition of ZnO nanoparticle increase the crystallinity of the composite. Electrochemical characterization of the ITO electrodes modified with PPy, PPy/Chy, and PCZ were performed using cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and amperometry techniques. The present study highlights the role of a bio-compatible material with high surface area and conductive constituent for designing of various high performing electronic noninvasive sensors, biosensors, and so forth. 相似文献
The growth of yeasts and bacteria were monitored during the maturation of Camembert and blue-veined cheese produced in Australia. Yeasts were prominent throughout maturation, growing to 10(5)-10(9)/g, depending on the manufacturer. Debaryomyces hansenii predominated, but there were lesser, inconsistent contributions from Yarrowia lipolytica. Of the non-lactic acid bacteria, Acinetobacter species were significant during the maturation of Camembert but not blue-veined cheeses, and grew to 10(6)-10(8) cfu/g. Staphylococcus and Micrococcus species were consistently isolated from the cheeses with Staphylococcus xylosus growing to 10(5)-10(9) cfu/g, depending on the product. Lactic acid bacteria (10(7)-10(9) cfu/g) were present throughout maturation but were not identified. Interactions between the various yeasts and bacterial isolates were examined. Several strains of D. hansenii exhibited killer activity but not against Y. lipolytica. None of the yeasts were antagonistic towards the bacteria but some strains of D. hansenii enhanced the growth of Y. lipolytica and S. xylosus. The yeast and bacterial isolates exhibited various degrees of extracellular proteolytic and lipolytic activities. 相似文献
In this paper, we study the photonic resonance states and transmission spectra of coupled waveguides made from heterostructure
photonic crystals. We consider photonic crystal waveguides made from three photonic crystals A, B and C, where the waveguide
heterostructure is denoted as B/A/C/A/B. Due to the band structure engineering, light is confined within crystal A, which
thus act as waveguides. Here, photonic crystal C is taken as a nonlinear photonic crystal, which has a band gap that may be
modified by applying a pump laser. We have found that the number of bound states within the waveguides depends on the width
and well depth of photonic crystal A. It has also been found that when both waveguides are far away from each other, the energies
of bound photons in each of the waveguides are degenerate. However, when they are brought close to each other, the degeneracy
of the bound states is removed due to the coupling between them, which causes these states to split into pairs. We have also
investigated the effect of the pump field on photonic crystal C. We have shown that by applying a pump field, the system may
be switched between a double waveguide to a single waveguide, which effectively turns on or off the coupling between degenerate
states. This reveals interesting results that can be applied to develop new types of nanophotonic devices such as nano-switches

Biotrickling filters for air pollution control are expected to encounter fluctuating conditions or periods without pollutant supply. In the present study, we investigated the effect of pollutant starvation in bench-scale biotrickling filters treating toluene. The experimental protocol consisted of starving biotrickling filters under various conditions: with or without airflow, with or without liquid recycle, and with or without an alternate carbon source (glucose) supply. The duration of the period without toluene was varied from 2 to 9 days, during time which the biotrickling filters were monitored for biomass content, endogenous and toluene-induced oxygen uptake rates during starvation, and toluene overall elimination capacity after restart. During starvation, all reactors lost their ability to degrade toluene within 5 days, regardless of the mode of starvation. The biomass content significantly decreased during starvation, in particular in those reactors where the recycle liquid was maintained, but this decrease was not critical for future re-acclimation. Glucose addition to starved biotrickling filters had several detrimental effects. It resulted in a faster decrease of the biomass content and slowed the reacclimation phase. Overall, the results show that the reacclimation of toluene-degrading biotrickling filters after periods of nonuse is short (10-24 h to re-establish full performance), and they suggest that, in the case of toluene-degrading biotrickling filters, re-acclimation time is largely governed by the induction of key pollutant-degrading enzymes. 相似文献
Microcellular foams in polypropylene containing rubber particles were produced in an injection molding process. The foams are generated because of the thermodynamic instability and are controlled by formation process. The effect of processing parameters on microcellular foaming was investigated in the injection molding process. Injection speed and pressure are less important factors but packing pressure plays an important role in controlling the foam density. A critical packing pressure, about 5 × 106 Pa, was found to generate microcellular foams in our polypropylene material system. Rubber particles inside the polypropylene seem to stabilize the microcellular foams. 相似文献
Several indoor atmospheric corrosion layers (0-800 years old) were selected from different localisations in France. Each sample was scrapped from its iron substrate. The resulting powder was mixed with graphite in appropriate proportions and the mixture was pressed onto a stainless steel grid to constitute a composite electrode. The electrochemical responses of the different samples were recorded under galvanostatic regulation, in a near-neutral pH-buffered NaCl solution at 25 °C. The E-t reduction curves allowed the determination of two characteristic parameters, Eτ/2, the potential value obtained at half the transition time, and Qτ, the coulombic charge obtained at the end of the reduction. The diminution of Eτ/2 and Qτ with the age of the corrosion layer showed that the “reduction reactivity” decreases with time, suggesting a progressive stabilisation of the corrosion layer.In a second part of the work, we synthesised several common ferric or ferrous/ferric products (goethite, lepidocrocite, magnetite, maghemite, ferrihydrite) and compared their reduction responses (product alone or mixture of 2 or 3 products) to those of corrosion samples. 相似文献
In this paper, Reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO)/ZnFe2O4 (rZnF) nanocomposite is synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method and employed as a counter electrode (CE) material for tri-iodide redox reactions in Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) to replace the traditional high cost platinum (Pt) CE. X-ray diffraction analysis and High resolution Transmission electron microscopy, clearly indicated the formation of rZnF nanocomposite and also amorphous rGO sheets were smoothly distributed on the surface of ZnFe2O4 (ZnF) nanostructure. The rZnF-50 CE shows excellent electro catalytic activity toward I3? reduction, which has simultaneously been confirmed by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization measurements. A DSSC developed by rZnF-50 CE (η?=?8.71%) obtained quite higher than the Pt (η?=?8.53%) based CE under the same condition. The superior performances of rZnF-50 CE due to addition of graphene in to Spinel (ZnF) nanostructure results in creation of highly active electrochemical sites, fast electron transport linkage between CE and electrolyte. Thus it’s a promising low cost CE material for DSSCs.
The contribution of fecal pollution from dogs in urbanized areas can be significant and is an often underestimated problem. Microbial source tracking methods (MST) utilizing quantitative PCR of dog-associated gene sequences encoding 16S rRNA of Bacteroidales are a useful tool to estimate these contributions. However, data about the performance of available assays are scarce. The results of a multi-laboratory study testing two assays for the determination of dog-associated Bacteroidales (DogBact and BacCan-UCD) on 64 single and mixed fecal source samples created from pooled fecal samples collected in California are presented here. Standardization of qPCR data treatment lowered inter-laboratory variability of sensitivity and specificity results. Both assays exhibited 100% sensitivity. Normalization methods are presented that eliminated random and confirmed non-target responses. The combination of standardized qPCR data treatment, use of normalization via a non-target specific Bacteroidales assay (GenBac3), and application of threshold criteria improved the calculated specificity significantly for both assays. Such measures would reasonably improve MST data interpretation not only for canine-associated assays, but for all qPCR assays used in identifying and monitoring fecal pollution in the environment. 相似文献
Dental research studies often produce relatively small data sets in which observations are serially or spatially correlated. Rerandomization tests are presented as alternatives to analysis of variance and multivariate analysis for assessing group differences using such data. Rerandomization tests are particularly useful when the investigator is unwilling to make strong assumptions about the nature of the serial correlation or the distribution of the data.
