"Stimulus-secretion" processes, and notably those in which the stimulus is provided by the formation of an antigen-antibody complex at the cell surface, require the presence of external Ca++. To test the possiblity that effector cells, in non-T cell mediated cytolysis, might be triggered to release a cytolytic product by a similar mechanism, we investigated the requirements of this phenomenon for divalent cations. We found that Ca++ is not sufficient, not necessary, and not inhibitory, whereas Mg++ is necessary and sufficient. Other cations were tested, and we found that Mn++ behaved like Mg++. The Ca++ data suggest that no conventional "stimulus-secretion" process is operative in non-T cell mediated cytolysis of antibody-coated sheep red blood cells.  相似文献

The first part of the paper is concerned with the development and calibration of a suitable mathematical model for determining the choice of travel mode between rail and air on four inter‐city routes in the U.K. Using the results obtained from the developed model, the second part of the paper is devoted to discussing some of the more important planning implications which have been highlighted. Abstract— Positively doped, intrinsic, negatively doped organic light‐emitting diodes (PIN‐OLEDs) have been shown to exhibit high efficiency and a long lifetime compared to conventional small‐molecule OLEDs (SM‐OLEDs). The improved performance of PIN‐OLEDs makes them attractive for use in display applications. Knowledge of the electrical load exhibited by these devices is used to develop an equivalent electrical‐circuit model. Such models are used by circuit designers to assist with the precise design of active‐matrix‐display driver circuits used in such applications. In this paper, the development of a SPICE model for a top‐emitting PIN‐OLED stack is reported.  相似文献

The viscoelastic properties of poly(n‐butyl acrylate), poly(ethyl acrylate) and poly(methyl acrylate) melts have been studied using samples that varied in both molar mass and the mol% branched repeat units, these properties having been previously determined by gel permeation chromatography and 13C NMR spectroscopy, respectively. Poly(n‐butyl acrylate) was studied most extensively using seven samples; one sample of poly(n‐butyl acrylate), two samples of poly(ethyl acrylate) and one sample of poly(methyl acrylate) were used to study the effect of side‐group size. Storage and loss moduli were measured over a range of frequency (1 × 10?3 to 1 × 102 rad s?1) at temperatures from Tg + 20 °C to Tg + 155 °C and then shifted to form master curves at Tg + 74 °C through use of standard superposition procedures. The plateau regions were not distinct due to the broad molar mass distributions of the polyacrylates. Hence, the upper and lower limits of shear storage modulus from the nominal ‘plateau’ region of the curves for the seven poly(n‐butyl acrylate) samples were used to calculate the chain molar mass between entanglements, Me, which gave the range 13.0 kg mol?1 < Me < 65.0 kg mol?1. The Graessley–Edwards dimensionless interaction density and dimensionless contour length concentration were calculated for poly(n‐butyl acrylate) using the mean value of plateau modulus (1.2 × 105 Pa) and three different methods for estimation of the Kuhn length; the data fitted closely to the Graessley–Edwards universal plot. The Williams–Landel–Ferry C1 and C2 parameters were determined for each of the polyacrylates; the data for the poly(n‐butyl acrylate) samples indicate an overall reduction in C1 and C2 as the degree of branching increases. Although the values of C1 and C2 were different for poly(n‐butyl acrylate), poly(ethyl acrylate) and poly(methyl acrylate), there is no trend for variation with structure. Thus the viscoelastic properties of the polyacrylate melts are similar to those for other polymer melts and, for the samples investigated, the effect of molar mass appears to dominate the effect of branching. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Coronary artery imaging is an important investigation for the management of coronary artery disease. Alternative noninvasive imaging would be useful, but the small caliber and tortuosity of the coronary vessels and cardiac and respiratory motion create formidable imaging problems. We first studied 21 normal subjects and 5 with coronary artery disease established by X-ray contrast angiography, of whom 2 had undergone bypass grafting. Of these, 22 were imaged successfully. Identification of the artery was possible for the left main stem, left anterior descending, right coronary, and left circumflex arteries respectively in 95%, 91%, 95%, and 76%. The arterial diameter at the origin could be measured in 77%, 77%, 81%, and 63%. The mean ±SD arterial diameter in each case (4.8±0.8, 3.7±0.5, 3.9±0.9, and 2.9±0.6 mm) was not significantly different from reference values (allp=ns). The mean length of artery visualized was 10.4±5.2,46.7±22.8,53.7±27.9, and 26.3±17.5 mm. In 12 normal males, the total coronary area was 30.9±9.2 mm2 and the ratio compared with body surface area was 16.4±4.4 mm2 m–2 (bothp=ns compared with reference values). In seven patients, with X-ray contrast coronary angiography, the proximal arterial diameter measured by magnetic resonance was 3.9±1.1 mm, and by X-ray contrast angiography 3.7±1.0 mm (p=ns). We then studied 17 patients with angina. Imaging of just the relevant artery was performed and analysis was blinded to the X-ray angiography results. Stenosis was identified on the magnetic resonance (MR) images by localized reduction in vessel signal intensity. Stenosis location by MR was assessed by measurement of its distance from a reference vessel, with correlation to the X-ray findings. X-ray coronary angiography showed 23 stenoses of which 15 (65%) were correctly located by blind assessment of the MR images. Of the eight remaining stenoses, a further 5 (63%) were correctly located on the MR images after retrospective comparison (overall sensitivity 87%). There were three lesions thought to represent stenosis by MR, which on review of the X-ray angiogram proved to be a minor stenosis <50% (two cases) or a tortuous vessel (one case). Greater signal loss was seen in the more severe stenoses. The stenosis length by MRI was greater than by X-ray (8.4 versus 5.1 mm,p<0.001). The overestimation of stenosis length may be due to turbulence.  相似文献

The contributions of the various ulnar-innervated muscles of the hand to the hypothenar compound muscle action potential (CMAP) were estimated by directly stimulating individual muscles and by analyzing CMAP shape changes resulting from manipulations that changed individual muscle lengths. The results show that the first peak of the negative phase of the hypothenar CMAP comes from the hypothenar muscles, but that the second peak is due to a large volume-conducted potential from the interosseous muscles. The interosseous contribution affects both the amplitude and the area of the CMAP, and makes these parameters sensitive to changes in the configuration of the fingers and the temperature gradient in the hand. To reduce the interosseous contribution, a "balanced reference" consisting of two reference electrodes, one over each tendon, is proposed.  相似文献

The optimal field shape achieved using a multileaf collimator (MLC) often requires collimator rotation to minimize the adverse effects of the scalloped dose distribution the leaf steps produce. However, treatment machines are designed to deliver wedged fields parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the leaves. An analysis of cases from our clinic showed that for 25% of the wedged fields used to treat brain and lung tumors, the wedge direction and optimal MLC orientation differed by 20 degrees or more. The recently published omni wedge technique provides the capability of producing a wedged field with orientation independent of the orientation of the collimator. This paper presents a comparison of the three-dimensional (3D) dose distributions of the omni wedged field with distributions of wedged fields produced using both the universal and dynamic wedge techniques. All measurements were performed using film dosimetry techniques. The omni wedge generated fields closely matched the conventional wedged fields. Throughout 95% of the irradiated volume (excluding the penubra), the dose distribution of the omni wedged field ranged from +5.5 to -3.5 +/- 1.5% of that of the conventionally wedged fields. Calculation of the omni wedged field is as accurate as conventional wedged field calculation when using a 3D treatment planning systems. For two-dimensional treatment planning systems, where one must assume that the omni wedged field is identical to a conventional field, the calculated field and the delivered field differs by a small amount.  相似文献
