In this paper, we present an approach, based on a Markov process, for modelling earthquake aftershocks. From our earthquake aftershock swarm files, we first show our preliminary observations on the phenomenon. Then we present the theoretical basis of a semi-Markovian approach and develop a parametric study of the proposed model. Finally, we discuss the results obtained to date, together with possible improvements of the model.  相似文献

We describe the modular architecture of a generic dialogue system that assists a user/operator in performing a task with a tool. This coaching system is named CALLIOPE after the Greek goddess of eloquence. It aims at being an active partner in an intelligent man-machine dialogue. The intelligent dimension of the coaching system is reflected by its ability to adapt to the user and the situation at hand. The CALLIOPE system contains an explicit user model and world model to situate its dialogue actions. A plan library allows it to follow loosely predetermined dialogue scenarios.The heart of the coaching system is an AI planning module, which plans a series of dialogue actions. We present a coherent set of three dialogue or speech actions that will make up the physical form of the man-machine communication.The use of the AI planning paradigm as a basis for man-machine interaction is motivated by research in various disciplines, as e.g., AI, Cognitive Science and Social Sciences. Starting from the man-man communication metaphor, we can view the thinking before speaking of a human communication partner as constructing an underlying plan which is responsible for the purposiveness, the organisation and the relevance of the communication.CALLIOPE has been fully implemented and tested on theoretical examples. At present, also three tailored versions of CALLIOPE are in operational use in different industrial application domains: operator support for remedying tasks in chemical process industry, operator support for a combined task of planning, plan execution and process control in the area of chemical process development, and thirdly decision support in production scheduling.  相似文献

A toluene droplet rising in a continuous aqueous phase is studied both experimentally and numerically. The experiments have been performed in a small scale, high-speed measuring unit with a high magnification device to image the process in all details. Numerical simulations are performed with the aid of the level set method implemented in the commercial CFD tool COMSOL Multiphysics 3.3a by COMSOL AB. A new technique for quantitative comparison of experimental and numerical results with respect to the droplet shape is presented. Both terminal velocity and droplet shape in experiments and simulations are found to be in excellent agreement. Based on the experimental and numerical data obtained, an improvement of an existing terminal velocity correlation is suggested. The adjusted correlation can be used for the design and optimisation of liquid-liquid extraction units.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Arabinoxylan (AX)‐derived preparations have raised particular interest by the suggestion that they exert prebiotic properties. Therefore an in vivo experiment was conducted to study the effects of xylooligosaccharides (XOS), arabinoxylooligosaccharides (AXOS) and soluble AX (S‐AX) on several groups of gut bacteria of chickens. Chickens were fed a control diet or the same diet supplemented with 2.5 g kg?1 of XOS (average degree of polymerisation (avDP) of 3, average degree of arabinose substitution (avDS) of 0.09), wheat bran‐derived AXOS (avDP 9, avDS 0.34) or wheat endosperm alkali‐solubilised AX (S‐AX, avDP > 6000, avDS 0.5). RESULTS: All treatment groups showed an increase in the number of caecal bifidobacteria after 2 weeks of feeding (P < 0.05), while the treatments did not impact numbers of Enterobacteriaceae and aerobic lactobacilli in the caeca relative to the control. XOS led to a tremendous increase in caecal bifidobacteria counts (108 g?1 for the XOS treatment versus 103 g?1 for the control treatment) after only 1 week of supplementation, while AXOS and S‐AX led to similar strong increases in bifidobacteria counts after 2 weeks of supplementation. Addition of S‐AX to the diet, but not of AXOS or XOS, led to a significantly decreased (P < 0.05) body weight gain after 2 weeks of feeding relative to animals on the control diet, consistent with its known viscosity‐related antinutritive effects in chickens. CONCLUSION: Similar to XOS, AXOS selectively stimulate the presence of bifidobacteria in the caeca of chickens, establishing their bifidogenic effect as a first indicator for prebiotic potential. Bubble and droplet size distribution influence chemical processes markedly. In order to enable an in‐line analysis of these distributions, a new single‐sided endoscopic version of the Optical Multimode Online Probe (OMOP) was developed. The acquired images are analyzed to gain bubble size distributions (BSDs) and main diagonals. A specific workflow was developed to detect and analyze overlapping bubbles based on standard image processing techniques. It can handle overlapping bubbles of both circular and elliptical shapes. Results confirmed that the combination of OMOP and the image processing workflow leads to robust detection of bubbles from two‐dimensional images. The new single‐sided OMOP proved to be a suitable tool for the acquisition of a BSD at industrial scale within a reasonable computing time.  相似文献

In distillation and absorption processes, entrainment above trays or packings reduces stage and column efficiency. A modified version of the optical multimode online probe enables a seminal insight and, thus, quantification of entrained droplets on various axial and radial positions. A purging mechanism inhibits precipitation of droplets on the front lenses, while telecentric optics and illumination provide distance‐independent and precise imaging of entrained droplets between two valve trays. Experiments were performed in a DN 450 cold flow (air‐water) test rig. The results were compared with noninvasive phase Doppler anemometry data.  相似文献

We investigated the hypothesis that feeding deterrence of common ringtail possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) and common brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) by Eucalyptus terpenes (in this case 1,8-cineole) is a result of a conditioned flavor aversion (CFA), due to the association of terpenes with postingestive effects of another group of Eucalyptus toxins, the diformylphloroglucinol compounds (DFPCs). Wild-caught common ringtail and common brushtail possums showed a dose-dependent reduction in food intake when 1,8-cineole was added to the diet. However, after continued exposure over 12 days to increasing amounts of cineole in the diet, both species substantially increased their intakes of cineole relative to control animals. This indicated that the aversion to cineole was a conditioned response rather than a physiological limitation in their ability to detoxify terpenes. Subsequent exposure to a diet including both cineole and jensenone (a simple DFPC also found in Eucalyptus and considered to cause postingestive emesis) in corresponding amounts was able to recondition the dose-dependent aversion. Consequently, animals that had been given jensenone showed an aversion to cineole-rich diets that matched the behavior of animals in the control group. This supported our hypothesis that the effect of terpenes on feeding of these marsupial folivores on Eucalyptus is due to a CFA. Possums can cope with levels of terpenes in the diet that far exceed those occurring naturally. The role of terpenes in marsupial folivore–Eucalyptus interactions appears to be to act as a cue to levels of toxic DFPCs in the leaves, rather than acting as toxins in their own right.  相似文献
