The influence which the composition of powder mixtures, the treatment conditions which the mixtures are subjected to, and the conditions under which the hot-pressed composite materials B4C – (5-10 mass%) calcium-silicon are fabricated exert on the structure, nature of failure, and mechanical properties of these materials is investigated. Optimum properties are possessed by material containing 10 mass% of addition. It is shown that the structure, morphology, and dispersivity, as well as the nature of the distribution of the components that are added to the composite material (secondary phase) vary as the temperature of hot pressing changes. Maximal mechanical characteristics of the composite material (σbend = 560 MPa, K 1c = 4.7 MPa·m1/2, HV = 37 GPa) are attained at hot-pressing temperatures in the range 2000-2100°C. 相似文献

The structure of SiC–AlN powders is investigated by x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy methods. The powders
were produced by joint carbon reduction and nitriding of silicon and aluminum oxide mixtures. The results show that a mixture
of solid solutions forms during joint SiC and AlN synthesis at 1700°C, with SiC forming β (3C) and α (2H) modifications with
different grain morphology. The fiber form is characteristic of β-SiC, whereas the grains of the solid solution based on SiC
have a predominantly equiaxed form. α-SiC grain dimensions are considerablys smaller than those of AlN.

We have investigated how the composition, grain morphology, and method of preparing the starting mixture affect the processes that form the structure and phase composition of B4C - SiC composites during hot pressing. We found that, depending on the composition of the initial powder mixtures, which is responsible for different mechanisms of consolidation of ceramic materials during hot pressing, the grain size of the main B4C phase and its defect content as well as the nature of the SiC phase distribution within the material differ significantly. This article reviews works of the Institute for Problems of Materials Science evoted to the application of explosion energy
for the synthesis of superhard phases (SHPs) based on phase transformations of layered structures of carbon and boron nitride
at high pressures. Major attention is given to the development and application of the high-temperature shock compression method,
which made it possible to synthesize a new structural form of carbon and to attain, for the first time, a 70% yield of cubic
BN under shock compression. The diagram of BN phase transformations by different mechanisms is discussed, which demonstrates
the dependence of the phase composition of shock compression products on the ordering degree of the starting graphite-like
structure.
