Grazing X-ray diffraction was used to study in details the behaviour of two spinels, ZnAl2O4 and MgAl2O4 irradiated by swift ions. Such an irradiation allows to have an important irradiated depth and then accurate diffraction diagrams. Rietveld refinement done on these diagrams clearly show an order–disorder transition due to a melting of cations under irradiation in these two spinels. More especially, these results clearly exhibit that no new phase is created under irradiation in MgAl2O4. Raman spectroscopy, sensitive to the crystallographic space group, seems to confirm this analysis. 相似文献

An outline of the characteristics of PEEK and the versatility of its compositional forms (micro and macro composites) are given to illustrate its wide potential for success in engineering applications. Although it is necessary to have particular tabulations of mechanical properties for engineering design, these are seldom available and consequently it is argued that an understanding of stiffness, toughness and strength properties are required to fully exploit available manufacturer's data and thus develop the full potential of PEEK and its composites. Stiffness characteristics are considered in terms of a modulus function which is dependent on time under load and temperature. In its composite forms, whether reinforced with short or continuous fibres, stiffness anistropy can be both considerable and complex, but some empirical ground-rules are apparent. For continuous fibre composites even in the form of complex lay-ups, it is also possible to attempt some stiffness prediction from certain pseudo-elastic constants. Toughness of PEEK and its composites is described in terms of both comparative and intrinsic properties. Instrumented falling weight impact data, particularly as a function of temperature enable some insight into ductile-brittle transitions for the unreinforced material, but crack initiation and crack propagation processes for the various fibre reinforced forms. Intrinsic toughness is described in terms of linear elastic fracture mechanics theory. Strength properties are described for static and dynamic loading configurations. In particular, PEEK and its composites are evaluated for increasing test severities for strength characteristics; stress concentration, loading form and test temperature are considered. 相似文献

A novel technique for both online and offline computation is presented. With this technique, a reconstruction analysis in elementary particle physics, otherwise prohibitively long, has been accomplished. It will be used online in an upcoming Fermilab experiment to reconstruct more than 100000 events per second and to trigger on the basis of that information. The technique delivers 40 gigaoperations per second, has a bandwidth on the order of gigabytes per second, and has a modest cost. A new ion beam analysis-based, single ion technique called the time to first photon has been developed to measure the decay of the luminescence signal of phosphors. Such measurements are currently needed to study luminescence decay mechanisms following high-density excitations and to identify strongly luminescent phosphor coatings with short lifetimes for ion photon emission microscopy (IPEM). The samples for this technique consist of thin phosphor layers placed or coated on the surface of PIN diodes. Single ions from an accelerator strike this sample and simultaneously create ion beam induced luminescence (IBIL) from the phosphor that is measured by a single-photon-detector, and an ion beam induced charge collection (IBICC) signal in the PIN diode. In this case, the IBICC signal provides the start pulse and the IBIL signal the stop pulse to a time to amplitude converter. It is straightforward to show that this approach also measures a signal proportional to activity versus time with an accuracy of 5% as long as the number of detected photons per ion is less than 0.1, which usually requires the use of absorbers for the IBIL detector or electronic discrimination for the IBIL signals. Details of the new analysis are given together with examples of luminescence decay measurements of several ceramic phosphors being considered to coat IPEM samples. Thermogravimetry and pyrolysis in combination with gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy were the experimental techniques applied to the thermal degradation of cinnamoylated poly(vinyl alcohol) samples, constituted from vinyl alcohol-vinyl cinnamate photocrosslinkable copolymers. The thermal decomposition products include gases, liquids and solids. The gases are formed from saturated and unsaturated volatile hydrocarbons C1? C4, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The liquid fraction includes aromatic hydrocarbons and some oxygenated organic compounds. The solid product identified in the greatest amount was cinnamic acid. A 5F triple-lumen thermodilution catheter was evaluated in a canine vena cava model to determine whether this catheter and the thermodilution technique provide valid in vivo determinations of blood flow. Our ultimate goal is to develop methods for studying limb blood flow in humans. Seven dogs were studied. Blood flow was provided and regulated by a calibrated roller pump. Flow rate determinations by thermodilution were made over a range of 0.5 to 5.01 1/minute. Excellent correlation (r = 0.98, r2 = 0.96, P less than 0.01) was found between actual flow and flow measured by thermodilution. The mean (+/- SD) coefficient of variation for the thermodilution method was 9.97 +/- 5.72 per cent over the flow range tested. The coefficient of variation tended to be higher at low flow rates. The thermodilution technique with this catheter provides valid in vivo determinations of blood flow through large vessels. This technology can be rationally applied to the study of limb blood flow in humans. 相似文献
