Translations Between Design Research and Scholarship

The idea that design for a changing world necessitates active inquiry, whether scientific or gnostic in inspiration, is at least as longstanding as the identification of modernity with critique or revolution. Whether or how such inquiry constitutes research or scholarship is a more specific and recent consternation. Beyond the diverse institutional and disciplinary concerns at stake in this formulation is an interesting challenge: Can design works be critically engaged as a vehicle of knowledge by a wide audience of readers—one extending beyond the designer or her/his immediate community? What are the enabling and limiting conditions for such engagement?     

An Inductively Coupled Lamb Wave Transducer

Wafer-type piezoelectric transducers are effective transducers for the excitation and detection of ultrasonic Lamb waves in plate-like structures. Such transducers are, however, vulnerable to corrosion and physical damage when mounted in exposed locations. In this paper we describe an inductively coupled Lamb wave transducer that eliminates the need for direct electrical connections. Signals are coupled into and out of the transducer using two probe coils. In this paper we explore the operation of inductively coupled transducers both analytically and experimentally. Finite-element analysis is used to determine inductances and the coupling constant, and electrical circuit analysis to determine the transfer function and its dependence on the gap between the probe coils and the transducer. Experiments show that return signals of millivolt amplitude are obtained when the transducer is excited with 10-V amplitude pulses. These transducers are suitable for permanent mounting on structures to be monitored for cracks or flaws     

核材料检测仪的研制

在原来只适于检测(射线的苯基塑料闪烁体上涂以ZnS薄层，使之对γ射线也有很高的灵敏度。根据光电转换原理，采用PC为主控，并用单片机作为数据预处理器，通过标准串口通讯，构成硬件冗余模式；另外，将传统的直通道设计成直角形，使之既能检测金属容器，又能识别强放射性物质；同时，在出口端加装了限速／位阻拦装置，从而解决了γ射线-金属双重识别，反辐射屏蔽和防高速闯关等难题，大大提高了检测系统的可靠性。PC的数据库操作和远程通信等功能使得本仪器能满足现代高端应用的要求。实测表明，本仪器灵敏度高，可靠性好。对应于3mg的U^235仪器报警响应时间小于0．6s，而拦截动作响应时间不大于2s。

76 mm口径EFP成形过程数值模拟及影响因素研究

采用LS-DYNA3D对76mm口径药型罩爆炸成型弹丸(EFP)的成形过程进行了数值模拟，模拟结果与实验数据基本吻合．通过数值模拟着重分析了装药长径比L／D、壳体厚度、药型罩壁厚对EFP速度的影响规律，得到了有关EFP成形速度公式，得出EFP速度随L／D的增大而增大，随药型罩厚度增大而减小，受装药外壳厚度影响不大．     

微波非接触式智能卡中射频系统和电路的设计实现

采用了Agilent公司ADS2002软件、Ansoft公司的Ensemble软件对微波非接触智能卡中射频系统和电路进行了仿真和设计。主要进行收发信道性能的仿真、天馈系统设计以及各单元电路之间匹配电路的设计。

Grain size effects on the mechanical properties of some squeeze cast light alloys

Mechanical property-grain size relationships have been examined for squeeze cast Al-4.5% Cu alloy, for an aluminium alloy with a composition corresponding to wrought 7010, and for a magnesium alloy AZ91. The general trend of the results obtained showed that the tensile properties and the fatigue strength improved as grain size decreased and the reverse was found to be the case for the fatigue crack propagation resistance and fracture energy of these castings. However, the results also showed that no simple common relationship existed between grain size and the tensile properties of the different alloys. The results are discussed in respect of their microstructures.
