The posterior wall of the central sulcus in forelimb area of SI has been expolred with extracellular micro-electrodes in baboons lightyl anaesthetized with nitrous oxide and sodium thiopentone. 2. The excitatory responses of 130 single units to low intensity electrical stimulation of the deep radial (muscle) and the superficial radial (cutaneous) nerves have been investigated. 3. Units that responded only to muscle nerve stimulation were located in area 3a but overlapped into area 3b. Units that responded only to cutaneous nerve stimulation were found mainly in area 3b but a number occurred in area 3a. Units that responded to both muscle and nerve stimuli (convergent units) were found throughout area 3a and the rostral part of area 3b. 4. Latency analyses of all three response groups revealed a single population of units responding to low threshold muscle nerve stimulation (mean latency 8.5 msec), and both early and late populations responding to low threshold cutaneous nerve stimulation (mean latencies 9.5 and 13.6 msec respectively). A number of the convergent units had very similar latencies for both inputs. 5. Electrical stimulation within area 3a deminstrated a projection from areas 1 and 3b to area 3a; such a pathway may provide a route for excitation of the late skin population which was found mainly in area 3a. 6. In area 3a units commonly responded to light touch, local pressure or deep pressure but only rarely to movement of hairs. The importance of extrapyramidal and mesolimbic function for circling behaviour was investigated by placing 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) and electrolesions in the cell bodies, axons and terminals of each system. Circling behaviour was weak when 6-OHDA was placed at the centre of the substantia nigra (SN), but the characteristic contralateral/ipsilateral turning to apomorphine/amphetamine were recorded. Circling was more marked when 6-OHDA was placed anterior to the SN but was generally absent following injections posterior to the SN. However, 6-OHDA placed in the medial forebrain bundle in the lateral hypothalamus resulted in intense contralateral/ipsilateral turning to apomorphine/amphetamine. Generally, the intensity of circling responses was related to the degree of striatal dopamine (DA) depletion but the more effective lesions also caused reductions in mesolimbic DA content. However, circling was not observed following any 6-OHDA injection into the mesolimbic DA system and it is concluded that mesolimbic DA function is not essential for the initiation of circling. In contrast to the 6-OHDA lesions, rats circled ipsilateral to both apomorphine and amphetamine when the SN was damaged by electrocoagulation to cause marked depletion of striatal dopamine. Lesser depletions of striatal dopamine after electrocoagulation in different regions of the medial forebrain bundle were associated with a lower intensity of ipsilateral circling to both drugs. In general, the differences between 6-OHDA and electrolesions could not be explained by additional damage to ascending noradrenaline or 5-hydroxytryptamine pathways. Lower doses of apomorphine were effective in the 6-OHDA circling rats, and the ipsilateral striatum of such rats was more sensitive to directly applied DA. Higher doses of apomorphine were required to produce circling after chronic electrolesions which rendered the ipsilateral striatum insensitive to DA. The contralateral circling to apomorphine after 6-OHDA lesions was abolished by chronic but not by acute electrolesion of the SN. It is suggested that electrolesions of the SN cause different effects to 6-OHDA because they destroy neuronal pathways in addition to the dopaminergic nigrostriatal tract. These appear to be required for the expression of circling behaviour caused by stimulation of the denervated striatum. Whereas 6-OHDA lesions result in super-sensitivity of the denervated strital DA receptors, electrolesions may cause a hypo-sensitivity of the same receptor sites. 相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine if Brown Leghorn chickens (Gallus domesticus) showed a daily differential responsiveness to the phased injections of corticosterone and prolactin. In experiment 1, 28 day old chicks, maintained on continuous lighting and a standard diet, were treated daily for 6 days with corticosterone (300 mug. in 0.2 cc. saline) and with prolactin (150 mug. in 0.2 cc. saline) for 4 days. The prolactin injections began 2 days after the first corticosterone injection. The interval between daily corticosterone injections at 1800 hours followed by prolactin injections 6, 12 or 18 hours later resulted in a significant increase in the liver lipidcontent in the chicks. However, when corticosterone and prolactin were given at the same time (1800 hours), no increase in liver lipid content was observed. Corticosterone admininstered at 6oo hours and followed by prolactin injections had no effect on liver lipid content regardless of the time of prolactin prolactin injections. Experiment 2 was designed to test the effect of the administration of corticosterone or prolactin alone at either 600 hours or 1800 hours on liver lipid metabolism. Two groups of Brown Leghorn chicks received prolactin alone (for 2 days) at either 600 hours or 1800 hours. None of these treatment groups were significantly different from the uninjected controls. It is concluded that the chick has a diurnal sensitivity to the effects of coritcosterone and that once the liver is affected by corticosterone, a temporal interaction between this steroid and prolactin can affect the liver lipid content of the Brown Leghorn chick. 相似文献

It has been shown that stimulation of the uterus of mares by the daily taking of biopsies can result in the occurrence of oestrous symptoms. This is accompanied by some follicular growth and a progesterone content in the blood often higher than 1 ng/ml. The following observations suggest that this progesterone originates in the uterus and not in the ovaries: (1) no active corpora lutea appeared to be present in the ovaries after ovariectomy, (2) ovariectomized mares showed the same oestrous symptoms in similar experiments and even mating took place, (3) in the uterine biopsies the concentration of the compound referred to as "5.4", which is assumed to be easily convertible into progesterone, had already increased considerably in the second biopsy, (4) administration of stilboestrol reduced the rise of the progesterone level in the uterine biopsies as well as in the blood. The absence of oestradiol-17 beta in the ovarian follicles and the fact that ovariectomized mares also come into heat suggest that oestrogens cannot be held responsible for the oestrous symptoms in these mares. Dairy animals, ranging from days 8 to 13 of the estrous cycle, were fitted with indwelling jugular catheters 1 day prior to either intramuscular injection of prostaglandin F2alpha free acid (30 mg, n=4) or intrauterine deposition of prostaglandin F2alpha free acid (10 mg, n = 3). Blood samples were collected at 6, 4, 2, and 0 h prior to administration of prostaglandin F2alpha and at 1, 3, and every 2 h thereafter until ovulation. Progestins, estradiol, and luteinizing hormone in plasma were measured by radioimmunoassay. Hormonal changes and interrelationships within animals were evaluated by least squares analyses. Decreases in progestins of plasma within 24 h indicated prostaglandin F2alpha induced luteolysis in six of the seven animals. Estradiol increased linearly from time of injection to 52 h postinjection. Intervals from administration of prostaglandin to onset of estrus, peak of luteinizing hormone, and ovulation were 74.9 +/- 21, 78.8 +/- 21, and 99.5 +/- 19 h. 相似文献

The mycotoxins diacetoxyscirpenol, deoxynivalenol, and zearalenone, produced by Fusarium roseum, were found naturally occuring in mixed feed samples. In all cases analyzed, deoxynivalenol occurred together with zearalenone. The natural occurrence of zearalenone in sesame seed is reported for the first time. Strains of F. roseum isolated in various parts of the world form feed implicated in animal mycotoxicosis produced monoacetoxyscirpenol, diacetoxyscirpenol, deoxynivalenol, and zearalenone. 相似文献

We have investigated factors influencing the survival of women with early breast cancer in Scotland. In a retrospective study, clinical, treatment and 'service' factors, e.g. surgical case load, deprivation and geographical area (health board of first treatment) were recorded from hospital records. A total of 2148 women with invasive breast cancer diagnosed in 1987 were identified from the Scottish Cancer Registry, of whom 1619 without metastases at diagnosis underwent surgery as part of their primary treatment. In a multivariate analysis, clinical factors (age, clinical stage, pathological tumour size, node status and oestrogen receptor status) all influenced survival. After allowing for these clinical factors, surgical case load and deprivation did not have statistically significant effects on survival. By contrast, health board did affect survival. This was explained in part by the selection of patients for surgery. There appeared, however, to be a residual effect that may be related to differences in the use of adjuvant systemic treatment among the different health boards. We conclude that, in Scotland, geographical variation in both surgical and non-surgical treatment has a greater effect on variability in survival for women with breast cancer than surgical case load and deprivation. 相似文献

We describe a 32 year old male with a distal 6p24.3-->pter deletion. He has specific developmental anomalies of the anterior chamber of the eye and a cleft uvula which is consistent with the recent localisation of genes for iris development and orofacial clefting to distal 6p. In addition he has progressive sensorineural deafness and this may localise a gene for deafness to this region. We conclude that a refined distal 6p deletion syndrome exists and includes a characteristic facial appearance with hypertelorism, downward slanting palpebral fissures, tented mouth, smooth philtrum, palatal malformation, ear anomalies, anterior chamber eye defects, progressive sensorineural deafness, cardiac defects, abdominal herniae, small external genitalia, and motor and speech delay. 相似文献
