A comparison of small form factor (SFF) fiber optic connectors is presented for LC, MT-RJ, SC-DC, and VF-45. Multimode jumper cables were tested using industry standard test procedures and bench marked against the industry standard SC Duplex connector. Initial loss data as well as stress testing was performed. Variations were found in the performance of the connectors types and between connectors of the same type from different suppliers. In some cases the connectors out performed the SC Duplex on some tests but no connectors out performed the SC Duplex on all tests with the mechanical stress tests of axial and off-axial pull being the most difficult to exceed. These connectors are rapidly developing and are at different levels of maturity but none of them tested out to be a fully mature replacement for the SC Duplex connector yet  相似文献

Efficient exploration of unknown environments is a fundamental problem in mobile robotics. We present an approach to distributed multirobot mapping and exploration. Our system enables teams of robots to efficiently explore environments from different, unknown locations. In order to ensure consistency when combining their data into shared maps, the robots actively seek to verify their relative locations. Using shared maps, they coordinate their exploration strategies to maximize the efficiency of exploration. This system was evaluated under extremely realistic real-world conditions. An outside evaluation team found the system to be highly efficient and robust. The maps generated by our approach are consistently more accurate than those generated by manually measuring the locations and extensions of rooms and objects.  相似文献

Imagine viewing our world from space; a world astronauts have described as “bright and vivid” with “no borders or boundaries”. Then consider how much can be learned by studying Earth from this unique vantage point. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) began a three-year pilot program in 1995 designed by a team of scientists, educators, engineers, and high school and college students to share astronauts' unique view of Earth with middle school students. This pilot program was called KidSat. KidSat's primary objective was to merge real-time professional space flight with middle school education by providing students with equal access and direct contribution to the United States space program for the exploration of the Earth. KidSat's long-term intent was to produce higher student achievement and increased competence in science, math, technology, and geography, and to promote an interactive understanding of Earth as an integrated system. Similar to the regular duties of astronauts, scientists, and engineers, students around the nation planned observations and captured images to study Earth's dynamic, fragile environment, using a remotely operated high-resolution color digital camera onboard the Space Shuttle, custom flight software, the Internet, NASA's infrastructure, and a mission operations infrastructure that linked middle schools to the Shuttle through a student-built mission Control Gateway. Using accompanying curriculum, students determined which areas of Earth they wanted to explore and photograph along the Shuttle's flight path. Orbiting communications satellites and the Internet transmitted commands, telemetry and images to and from the classrooms. Via the Shuttle cargo bay video camera. NASA TV carried video of the mission and the Earth for simultaneous viewing in classrooms. The KidSat pilot program was conceived in November 1993 and ended in December 1997. Most attempts to emulate the mechanical properties of strong and tough natural composites using helicoidal films of wood‐derived cellulose nanocrystals (w‐CNCs) fall short in mechanical performance due to the limited shear transfer ability between the w‐CNCs. This shortcoming is ascribed to the small w‐CNC‐w‐CNC overlap lengths that lower the shear transfer efficiency. Herein, we present a simple strategy to fabricate superior helicoidal CNC films with mechanical properties that rival those of the best natural materials and are some of the best reported for photonic CNC materials thus far. Assembling the short w‐CNCs with a minority fraction of high aspect ratio CNCs derived from tunicates (t‐CNCs), we report remarkable simultaneous enhancement of all in‐plane mechanical properties and out‐of‐plane flexibility. The important role of t‐CNCs is revealed by coarse grained molecular dynamics simulations where the property enhancement are due to increased interaction lengths and the activation of additional toughening mechanisms. At t‐CNC contents greater than 5% by mass the mixed films also display UV reflecting behaviour. These damage tolerant optically active materials hold great promise for application as protective coatings. More broadly, we expect the strategy of using length‐bidispersity to be adaptable to mechanically enhancing other matrix‐free nanoparticle ensembles.  相似文献

The proteolytic system of several non-commercial strains of lactococci and lactobacilli that were isolated directly from traditional-Spanish, semi-hard, goats' milk cheese was studied. The aminopeptidase, X-prolyldipeptidyl aminopeptidase, dipeptidase and proteinase activity of these new strains was measured for the cytoplasmic, cell-wall/membrane and spontaneously released fractions. The aminopeptidase activity was exclusively intracellular and higher forLactobacillus casei subsp.casei than forLactococcus lactis subsp.lactis. Lactobacillus plantarum showed higher dipeptidase activity thanL. casei. The highest level of proteinase activity was recorded for the cell-wallmembrane fraction ofLactococcus lactis subsp.lactis IFPL 359, and was higher on -casein than on s-casein for all the strains studied. These results suggest some different contribution of these strains to the proteolysis of cheese during ripening and they seem to complement each other when used together in the starter culture.

Zusammenfassung Das proteolytische System von mehreren nicht kommerziellenLactococcus- undLactobacillus-Stämmen wurde direkt vom traditionellen spanischen halbfesten Ziegenmilchkäse isoliert und untersucht. Die Aktivität von Aminopeptidase, X-Prolyldipeptidylaminopeptidase, Dipeptidase and Proteinase dieser neuen Stämme wurde in cytoplasmatischen, Zellwand-Membran- und spontan freigesetzten Fraktionen gemessen. Die Aminopeptidase-Aktivität erfolgte ausschließlich intracellular und war höher fürLactobacillus casei subsp. casei als fürLactococcus lactis subsp.lactis. Lactobacillus plantarum zeigte höhere Dipeptidase Aktivität alsL. casei. Die höchsten Werte für die Proteinase-Aktivität wurden für die Zellwand-Membran-Fraktion vonLactococcus lactis subsp.lactis IFPL359 gemessen. Für alle untersuchten Stämme war die Aktivität höher bei -Casein als bei s-Casein. Dieses Ergebnis weist auf den unterschiedlichen Einfluß dieser Stämme bei der Proteolyse von Käse während der Reifung hin. Die Stämme scheinen sich gegenseitig zu ergänzen, wenn sie gemeinsam in Starterkulturen verwendet werden.

An electrically tunable reflection filter based on a platinum-coated single-mode optical fiber that contains an intracore Bragg grating has been demonstrated. The device shows a dc tuning range of 2.15 nm with a corresponding electrical power of 0.54 W. Wavelength modulation (WM) has been observed at frequencies lower than 100 Hz. The wavelength shift depends linearly on the electrical input power. A maximum efficiency of 4.1 nm/W is obtained for dc tuning  相似文献

In this article, we discuss the current status of polynomial factoring (root finding) algorithms with some historical and mathematical background including size limits, convergence, accuracy and speed. The methods of root approximation versus root refinement are also examined. We then focus on two improved general purpose computational techniques, and in particular the factorization algorithm by Lindsey-Fox (L-F), which makes use of the fast Fourier transform to factor polynomials with random coefficients of degrees as high as 1 million. Computer simulations give insight that result in significant improvements in traditional approaches to an ancient problem.  相似文献

A new family of highly soluble electrophosphorescent dopants based on a series of tris‐cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes (14) of 2‐(carbazol‐3‐yl)‐4/5‐R‐pyridine ligands with varying molecular dipole strengths have been synthesized. Highly efficient, solution‐processed, single‐layer, electrophosphorescent diodes utilizing these complexes have been prepared and characterized. The high triplet energy poly(9‐vinylcarbazole) PVK is used as a host polymer doped with 2‐(4‐biphenylyl)‐5‐(4‐tert‐butyl‐phenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole (PBD) for electron transport. Devices with a current efficiency of 40 cd A?1 corresponding to an EQE of 12% can thus be achieved. The effect of the type and position of the substituent (electron‐withdrawing group (CF3) and electron‐donating group (OMe)) on the molecular dipole moment of the complexes has been investigated. A correlation between the absorption strength of the singlet metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (1MLCT) transition and the luminance spectral red shift as a function of solvent polarity is observed. The strength of the transition dipole moments for complexes 1–4 has also been obtained from TD‐DFT computations, and is found to be consistent with the observed molecular dipole moments of these complexes. The relatively long lifetime of the excitons of the phosphorescence (microseconds) compared to the charge‐carrier scattering time (less than nanoseconds), allows the transition dipole moment to be considered as a “quasi permanent dipole”. Therefore, the carrier mobility is sufficiently affected by the long‐lived transition dipole moments of the phosphorescent molecules, which are randomly oriented in the medium. The dopant dipoles cause positional and energetic disorder because of the locally modified polarization energy. Furthermore, the electron‐withdrawing group CF3 induces strong carrier dispersion that enhances the electron mobility. Therefore, the strong transition dipole moment in complexes 3 and 4 perturbs both electron and hole mobilities, yielding a reduction in exciton formation and an increase in the device dark current, thereby decreasing the device efficiency.  相似文献
