The symmetric self-electrooptic-effect device (S-SEED), a structure consisting of two p-i-n diodes electrically connected in series and acting as an optically bistable set-reset latch, is discussed. Applications and extensions of this device are also discussed. The devices do not require the critical biasing that is common to most optically bistable devices and thus is more useful for system applications. They have been optically cascaded in a photonic ring counter and have been used to perform different NOR, OR, NAND, and AND logic functions. Using the same device, a differential modulator that generates a set of complementary output beams with a single voltage control lead and a differential detector that gives an output voltage dependent on the ratio of the two optical input powers have been demonstrated  相似文献

We report growth of In0.53Ga0.47 As-InP multiple quantum well (MQW) modulators operating at 1.55 μm for fiber-to-the-home applications. By employing a 200-period InGaAs-InP MQW stack in the intrinsic region of a p-i-n structure and working in reflection, we have been able to realize surface-normal modulator devices that exhibit better than an 8:1 contrast ratio. This is the highest contrast ratio reported to date for this type of device working at this wavelength  相似文献

A class of distributed retransmission controls based on stochastic approximation techniques is developed for the infinite-population, slotted, nonpersistent, and virtual-time CSMA channels. These controls, which permit each terminal to adjust its retransmission probability in a simple, recursive manner as a function of channel feedback, are stable in terms of the geometric ergodicity of an imbedded Markov chain model for each channel. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the controls in supporting stable channel operation at maximum achievable throughput, recovering from an abrupt arrival of a larger number of new packets, and providing delay versus throughput performance that closely approximates that of an idealized channel in which each terminal has perfect knowledge of the number of blocked (collided) terminals  相似文献

ABA-type “tapered” block polymers were prepared from styrene (monomer A) and butadiene or isoprene, using an initiator of sec-butyllithium complexed with two molecules of ethyl ether. The stress–strain curves of polymers containing about 20–50% styrene show the usual resemblance to curves of crosslinked elastomers. The SBS polymers had higher tensile strengths than the SIS polymers. They also had slightly higher tensile strengths than comparable SBS polymers made with sec-butyllithium. The SIS polymers, however, had generally lower tensile strengths than those made with sec-butyllithium. This is probably caused by higher styrene content of the isoprene block, brought about by increased randomization of the styrene–isoprene copolymerization due to the presence of the ether. The A and B blocks become more compatible, producing loss of strength in the polymer. Infrared analyses of polydienes made with the sec-C4H9Li·2(C2H5)2O initiator showed a 6% to 8% increase in 1,2-content (for polybutadiene) or 3,4-content (for polyisoprene), compared to polymers made with sec-butyllithium. The polymer microstructures still have high (>80%) total 1,4-content, however. Thus, this amount of ether can be tolerated in the polymerization system without great loss of rubbery properties or block structure in the resultant polymers.  相似文献

Testicular involvement by sarcoidosis is rare. We report a case of a patient with known sarcoid who had a unilateral testicular nodule with apparent capsular invasion on sonography. The epididymis was normal on both sides. Despite these atypical features, pathology showed the nodule to be a sarcoid granuloma. In patients with sarcoidosis, the differential diagnosis of an intratesticular mass should include testicular involvement by sarcoid.  相似文献

Recent results show that the 8-oxoguanine DNA repair system is functionally conserved in bacteria and mammals. Technetium-99m-MAG3 is accepted as a renal tubular function agent. However, sporadic liver and gall bladder visualisation during its clinical use is clearly a disadvantage. HPLC-purified 99mTc-MAG3 samples exhibited appreciable hepatobiliary uptake (7%), and an elevated level of such uptake was observed in unpurified kit preparations, which was stated to be associated with the excretory property of the radiolabeled kit impurities. To verify this we attempted to quantitate the hepatobiliary uptake of the kit preparations with that of its radiolabeled components. The contribution of each component toward hepatobiliary uptake of the sample was calculated from their abundance in the chelate mixture and the individual biodistribution of the isolated components. However, the anticipated hepatobiliary uptake of different preparations of 99mTc-MAG3 calculated in this way was always lower than that of the experimental value determined directly. Further work is needed to explain the anomaly.  相似文献
