The durability of digital audio tape is a function of the elastic and plastic properties of the magnetic layer and substrate. In this work a micro-indentation method has been used to estimate these properties. The loading part of the compliance curve (load against indentor penetration) is analysed to obtain magnetic layer hardness. The unloading part is used to determine the reduced elastic modulus. Indentations at various depths have been recorded and an extrapolation technique used to predict layer properties. Rate dependence of the magnetic layer has been studied through constant loading rate tests. Results are presented isochronally, to indicate any viscous elastic–plastic non-linearities. 相似文献

Water management in cathode gas diffusion electrode (GDE) of polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) is essential for high performance operation, because liquid water condensed in porous gas diffusion layer (GDL) and catalyst layer (CL) blocks oxygen transport to active reaction sites. In this study, the average liquid water content inside the cathode GDE of a low-temperature PEFC is experimentally and quantitatively estimated by the weight measurement, and the relationship between the water accumulation rate in the cathode GDE and the cell voltage is investigated. The liquid water behavior at the cathode is also visualized using an optical diagnostic, and the effects of operating conditions and GDL structures on the water transport in the cathode GDE are discussed. It is found that the liquid water content in the cathode GDE increases remarkably after starting the fuel cell operation due to the water production at the CL. At a high current density, the cell voltage drops suddenly after starting the operation in spite of a low water content in the cathode GDE. When the GDL thickness is increased, much water accumulates near the cathode CL and the fuel cell shuts down immediately after the operation. In the final section of this paper, the structure of cathode GDL that has several grooves for water removal is proposed to prevent water flooding and improve fuel cell performance. A new approach to creep cavitation damage is developed by combining the basic features of continuum damage mechanics and mechanism-based cavitation models. Based on a polycrystal microstructures simulated by Voronoi tessellation, an anisotropic continuum damage variable is defined, and its evolution is given by applying the mechanism-based equations of cavity nucleation and growth to each grain boundary. Macroscopic creep deformation coupled with the damage variable is calculated by damage mechanics equations. This serial research has proposed the hybrid power system combined the wind power unit with the counter-rotating type pump-turbine unit, to provide the constant output for the grid system, even at the suddenly fluctuating/turbulent wind circumstance. In this paper, the tandem impellers prepared for the counter-rotating type pumping unit were operated at the turbine mode, and the performances and the flow conditions were investigated numerically with accompanying the experimental results. Even though providing the pumping unit for the turbine mode, the maximum hydraulic efficiency is close to one of the counter-rotating type hydroelectric unit designed exclusively for the turbine mode. Besides, the runners/impellers of the unit work evidently so as to coincide the angular momentum change through the front runners/impellers with that through the rear runners/impellers, namely to take the axial flow at not only the inlet but also the outlet, without the guide vanes. Identification of creep damage variable D of continuum damage theory from the metallographic A-parameter is discussed. By performing a stochastic analysis, A-parameter, defined as the observed fraction of cavitated grain boundaries on the observation plane, was first related to the cavity area fraction on the grain boundary facet planes. Based on the results of this analysis, the cavitation damage states of some engineering alloys were estimated by use of the data of the measured A-parameter. Finally, according to the usual interpretation of the damage variable D, specific D-A relations were derived. The validity and the utility of the proposed D-A relations, based on the test results of an engineering alloy, are discussed. 相似文献

Blue-violet anthocyanins from Jaboticaba (Myrtus cauliflora Mart) and Calafate (Berberies buxifolia Lam) were employed as TiO2 dye-sensitizers. Solar cells sensitized by Jaboticaba extracts achieved up to Jsc=9.0 mA cm−2, Voc=0.59 V, Pmax=1.9 mW cm−2 and ff=0.54, while for Calafate sensitized cells the values determined were up to Jsc=6.2 mA cm−2, Voc=0.47 V, Pmax=1.1 mW cm−2 and ff=0.36. Other natural dyes were evaluated without significant photocurrent, demonstrating that only selected extracts are capable of converting sunlight in electricity. The results obtained with extracts of Jaboticaba and Calafate show a successful conversion of visible light into electricity by using natural dyes as wide band-gap semiconductor sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells. It also represents an environmentally friendly alternative for dye-sensitized solar cells with low cost production and an excellent system for educational purposes. 相似文献

Earthquake and tsunami impose great threats on the stability of a breakwater. Foundation of the breakwater is weakened by these forces, and it may result in collapse of the breakwater. Lateral flow of seabed soils take place beneath the breakwater, and excess pore water pressure is generated in the foundation by an earthquake that precedes tsunami. These factors may lead to excessive settlement and horizontal displacement of the breakwater. Tsunami introduces additional instability to the deformed breakwater. Due to water level difference between seaside and harborside of the breakwater during a tsunami, seepage occurs through its foundation, and it may cause pipping of seabed soils. Tsunami induced scouring of mound is also a big problem for the stability of the breakwater foundation. Finally, these result in failure of the breakwater foundation. Due to failure of its foundation, the breakwater may collapse and cannot block the tsunami. It results in entering of the tsunami in coastal areas. In order to make a breakwater resilient against earthquake and tsunami induced damage, reinforcing countermeasures were developed for foundation of a breakwater. Geogrid, gabions and sheet piles were used for reinforcing a foundation model. The effectiveness of the model is evaluated through physical modeling for mitigating the earthquake and tsunami induced damage. Shaking table tests were performed to determine the effectiveness of the reinforced model under different earthquake loadings. Tsunami overflow test was conducted on the same deformed model in order to see the effects of tsunami on the model. Comparisons were made between the unreinforced and reinforced foundations, and it was observed during the tests that the reinforced foundation performed well in reducing the damage of the breakwater brought by the earthquake and tsunami. Overall, this study is useful for practice engineering, and the reinforced foundation model can be adopted for designing a breakwater foundation to reduce damage triggered by an earthquake and tsunami in the future. 相似文献

We analyzed perfluorinated surfactants (PFSs) in 20 river samples and 5 wastewater secondary effluent samples in Japan to reveal their occurrence and sources. Nine PFS species were determined: perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctane sulfonamide (FOSA), perfluoroheptanoate (PFHpA), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), perfluorononanoate (PFNA), perfluorodecanoate (PFDA), perfluoroundecanoate (PFUA), perfluorododecanoate (PFDDA), and perfluorotridecanoate (PFTDA). PFSs were detected in all rivers, revealing nationwide contamination of rivers. In particular, 11 out of 20 river samples exceeded New Jersey guidance for PFOA in drinking water (40 ng/L). PFOS, PFHpA, PFOA, and PFNA were major species in Japan. Concentrations of PFOS, PFHpA, and PFNA in rivers were strongly correlated with population density, suggesting that the chemicals were derived from urban activities. PFOA showed a significant but weak correlation. We used crotamiton, a marker of sewage effluent, for further source analysis. Concentrations of PFOS, PFHpA, and PFNAwere strongly correlated with those of crotamiton, and plots of secondary effluents fell near the regression lines of rivers, indicating that the PFOS, PFHpA, and PFNA in rivers were derived from sewage effluent. On the other hand, PFOA was found at remarkably high levels (54-192 ng/L) in seven river samples containing low levels of crotamiton, suggesting that it was derived from nonsewage point sources, as well as sewage effluent. The total fluxes of sewage-derived PFOS, PFHpA, PFOA, and PFNA from Japan were estimated to be 3.6, 2.6, 5.6, and 2.6 t/year, respectively. A novel methodology, a probe-regulated simultaneous separation using capillary electrophoresis (CE-PRESS), was developed for simultaneous assay of multiple genes. The single-stranded (ss) DNA-polymer conjugate-probes were placed in a capillary, and then a mixture of target ssDNAs was injected. These ssDNAs were hybridized with corresponding complementary ssDNA-polymer conjugate-probes after charging the capillary. Two resulting double-stranded (ds) complexes of ssDNAs and ssDNA-polymer conjugate-probes were detected at different migration times. We found that the electrophoretic mobilities of two ssDNA-poly(acrylamide) conjugate-probes [-(5'-GCCACCAGC-3')m-AAm(n)- and -(5'-ACCTTCACT-3')p-AAm(q)-; AAm, acrylamide] obtained by copolymerizing 5'-methacryloyl-modified ssDNA and AAm were different, depending on their molar fraction of ssDNA, although the ssDNAs chain lengths were the same. Two ssDNAs (5'-GCTGGTGGC-3' and 5'-AGTGAAGGT-3') having the same chain length were successfully separated with our novel system, although the separation of these ssDNAs is impossible in conventional capillary electrophoresis systems. 相似文献

Fifty‐one hop varieties from around the world were subjected to random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis with 10‐mer arbitrary primers. Polymorphism was scored and the genetic distance was calculated as the proportion of shared DNA bands in a pair of varieties for the construction of a dendogram by an unweighted pair‐group method was arithmetical averages. The varieties were roughly classified into 6 clusters, and the similarity between varieties correlated with their breeding history. The result also suggests that at least two populations existed in ancient times and the hops cultivated in England originated from or are related to both populations. Many high alpha varieties have a genetic composition unlike old European hops. This difference is thought to result from the integration of wild American hops. 相似文献
