This paper describes the design and performance of a new instrument to track temporal changes in physical parameters during the drying behavior of solutions, as well as curing of monomers. This real-time instrument follows in-plane and out-of-plane birefringence, weight, thickness, and surface temperature during the course of solidification of coatings and films through solvent evaporation and thermal or photocuring in a controlled atmosphere. It is specifically designed to simulate behavior of polymer solutions inside an industrial size, continuous roll-to-roll solution casting line and other coating operations where resins are subjected to ultraviolet (UV) curing from monomer precursors. Controlled processing parameters include air speed, temperature, initial cast thickness, and solute concentration, while measured parameters are thickness, weight, film temperature, in-plane and out-of-plane birefringence. In this paper, we illustrate the utility of this instrument with solution cast and dried poly (amide-imide)∕DMAc (Dimethylacetamide) solution, water based black paint, and organo-modified clay∕NMP (N-Methylpyrrolidone) solution. In addition, the physical changes that take place during UV photo polymerization of a monomer are tracked. This instrument is designed to be generic and it can be used for tracking any drying∕swelling∕solidification systems including paper, foodstuffs such as; grains, milk as well as pharmaceutical thin paste and slurries.  相似文献

This paper presents the design and evaluation of a multi-lingual fingerspelling recognition module that is designed for an information terminal. Through the use of multimodal input and output methods, the information terminal acts as a communication medium between deaf and blind people. The system converts fingerspelled words to speech and vice versa using fingerspelling recognition, fingerspelling synthesis, speech recognition and speech synthesis in Czech, Russian and Turkish Languages. We describe an adaptive skin color based fingersign recognition system with a close to real-time performance and present recognition results on 88 different letters signed by five different signers, using more than four hours of training and test videos.  相似文献

We prove the following facts about the language recognition power of quantum Turing machines (QTMs) in the unbounded error setting: QTMs are strictly more powerful than probabilistic Turing machines for any common space bound s satisfying s(n)=o(loglogn). For “one-way” Turing machines, where the input tape head is not allowed to move left, the above result holds for s(n)=o(logn). We also give a characterization for the class of languages recognized with unbounded error by real-time quantum finite automata (QFAs) with restricted measurements. It turns out that these automata are equal in power to their probabilistic counterparts, and this fact does not change when the QFA model is augmented to allow general measurements and mixed states. Unlike the case with classical finite automata, when the QFA tape head is allowed to remain stationary in some steps, more languages become recognizable. We define and use a QTM model that generalizes the other variants introduced earlier in the study of quantum space complexity.  相似文献

Biosorption equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics of chromium(VI) ions onto cone biomass were studied in a batch system with respect to temperature and initial metal ion concentration. The biosorption efficiency of chromium ions to the cone biomass decreased as the initial concentration of metal ions was increased. But cone biomass of Pinus sylvestris Linn. exhibited the highest Cr(VI) uptake capacity at 45 degrees C. The biosorption efficiency increased from 67% to 84% with an increase in temperature from 25 to 45 degrees C at an initial Cr(VI) concentration of 300 mg/L. The Langmuir isotherm model was applied to experimental equilibrium data of Cr(VI) biosorption depending on temperature. According to Langmuir isotherm, the monolayer saturation capacity (Q(max)) is 238.10 mg/g. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were applied to test the experimental data for initial Cr(VI). The pseudo-second-order kinetic model provided the best correlation of the used experimental data compared to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The activation energy of biosorption (E(a)) was determined as 41.74 kJ/mol using the Arrhenius equation. Using the thermodynamic equilibrium coefficients obtained at different temperatures, the thermodynamic constants of biosorption (DeltaG(0), DeltaH(0) and DeltaS(0)) were also evaluated.  相似文献

We present a model system that might serve as a blueprint for the controlled layout of graphene based nanodevices. The systems consists of chains of B(7) clusters implanted in a graphene matrix, where the boron clusters are not directly connected. We show that the graphene matrix easily accepts these alternating B(7)-C(6) chains and that the implanted boron components may dramatically modify the electronic properties of graphene based nanomaterials. This suggests a functionalization of graphene nanomaterials, where the semiconducting properties might be supplemented by parts of the graphene matrix itself, but the basic wiring will be provided by alternating chains of implanted boron clusters that connect these areas.  相似文献

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare osseous healing characteristics of titanium implants coated with enamel-derived fluoride-substituted apatite (EFSA) or dentin-derived fluoride-substituted apatite (DFSA). Methods Fluoride-substituted apatite was derived from extracted human teeth with calcination method at 850 °C. DFSA and EFSA were separated and carefully ground with a blade grinder. Twenty-four titanium implants were prepared from a 99.99% pure titanium bar. EFSA and DFSA powders were sprayed separately on implants. As control group, unsprayed and sandblasted pure titanium implants were used. Eight adult rams were used in the study. One EFSA coated, 1 DFSA coated and 1 control implants were placed into right tibia of each rams. The rams were sacrificed after 6 months of healing. Undecalcified sections were prepared according to Donath’s method and histomorphometric evaluation of implants was made. Results The mean bone contact percentage of DFSA-coated, EFSA-coated and control implants was 89.88% ± 2.34, 70.19% ± 13.11 and 53.12% ± 5.76 respectively. This study suggests that DFSA-coated implants achieved better bone contact than EFSA-coated implants (P < 0.05). Also study groups presented better bone contact than control group (P < 0.05). Conclusions The results of this study show that although DFSA-coated implants achieved better bone contact, both DFSA and EFSA can be considered as appropriate coating materials.  相似文献

Call dropping is considered more annoying than call blocking in wireless cellular networks. The cost of the classical method of employing guard channels to decrease the call dropping rate is the increase in call blocking rate. Since subscriber mobility changes in time, the number of handoff attempts in each cell is subject to fluctuations, making static assignments (or periodical update) of a given number of guard channels inefficient. In this paper, we propose an adaptive scheme that employs reservations, instead of static assignments, to adaptively adjust the number of guard channels in each cell according to the current requirements. Thus, unnecessary allocation of guard channels is avoided resulting in a lower cost in terms of call dropping. The reservation requests are made according to the recent mobility pattern of the subscriber. A likelihood value is associated with each reservation request so that fewer channels are reserved by benefiting from the statistical accumulation of the requests. The channels are reserved by considering the interference that would be created once they are in use. The proposed scheme is evaluated against the classical guard channel scheme with a realistic mobility model.This author is currently associated with Georgia Institute of Technology-Regional Engineering Program (GTREP).Tuna Tugcu received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from Bogazici University in 1993 and 2001, respectively, M.S. degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1994. Currently, he is a professor in the Computer Engineering Department of Bogazici University. His research interests include performance evaluation and topological design of communication networks, wireless communications and mobile applications. The structural, optoelectronic and thermoelectric properties of Ca5Al2Sb6 under applied external pressures have been studied using the full potential linear augmented plane wave method. WIEN2k code is used with considering the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), modified Becke–Johnson (MBJ) and modified Becke–Johnson?+?spin orbit (mBJ?+?SO) functionals based on density functional theory (DFT). From electronic results, the size of the band gap decreases with increasing pressure and the nature of the band gap shift from direct to the indirect. In high pressure (>35.7 GPa by mBJ?+?SO), the band gap is also completely disappeared and the nature of compound is changed to the metallic. The calculated anisotropic optical properties such as the static dielectric function, increase with decreasing the size of band gap and increasing of pressure. As a novel result, the thermoelectric performance of n-type and p-type doping of Ca5Al2Sb6 is related to the value of pressure. According to the thermoelectric results, the n-type one has the highest ZT in comparison with the p-type Ca5Al2Sb6 material.  相似文献

In 2015, a “Post-2015 Development Agenda” is defined for future global developments in water management. The proposed goal is referred to as SDG’s or Sustainable Development Goals, which will balance the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development with a strong linkage between environment and socio-economic goals. One of the major concepts of SDG’s is water security, which is the basic element of the Global Goal on Water, now defined as: “Securing Sustainable Water for All”. The proposal for a Global Goal for Water is associated with targets and indicators to help countries reach the goal by 2030. Among the five main targets specified, two major ones emphasize “water allocation” as an important support of water security, particularly in conditions of water security. This paper focuses on this latter issue in the case of water scarce Gediz Basin along the Aegean coast of Turkey, where irrigation is the major water consuming activity. In addition to allocation of water among other water use sectors and irrigation, it is important in the basin how irrigation water is allocated to various crops, as previous droughts struck crop yields the most. Thus, 16 alternative allocation scenarios are developed to assess the crop yield produced by each scenario. These alternatives are represented by social, economic and environmental indicators as criteria for selection the most favorable alternative. The selection is realized by Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) methodology, using the Reference Point Approach (RPA). In terms of methodology, presented paper shows that RPA is a powerful tool to guide engineers and decision makers to rationally select among several possible alternatives in water allocation.  相似文献
